I don't know if I have ever seen this topic addressed from this angle, but I thought that it gives a unique prespective so I will share.
I plan on installing a roll cage in my 64 chevelle as soon as I get the car back on the road it needs about 5hrs of work hooking up the engine, but school and work have allowed me no time to do this so far in 2005 and the last time I was able to work on the car was over x-mas break in fact I am in the school library right now waiting on my MBA group to show up.
I have a simple 4 point setup in my 66, but with this car I would like to have a main hoop, rear downbars, a halo bar that connects to a knee bar and snout bars that tie into the nose of the car. I guess that makes it an 8pt cage.
At this time I am not planning on running door bars as I will not be racing with other vehicles and my car runs a zz383 so I will not be running fast enough to need them in a drag racing situation. I will most likly be building the cage to satisfy NHRA specifications as the track I see most often is LACR in Palmdale. The cage is for my safety on the street and for added chassis regidity for spirited driving.
Currently the car has zero interior aside from seats so I can have the bars run close to the roof and sides of the car, and I plan to have the knee bar run behid the dash.
I have not yet decided on seats, but I am aware of the importance of selecting a seat and restraint system that matches the capabilities of both the car and the roll cage.
My questions is how do you guys feel that a roll cage impacts the value of a street car and what characteristics of a cage can make it have a more positive or negative impact on value.
