Benny Rapp 1964 CAE Sprintcar .
Built from a CAE kit on a garage floor in Toledo OH. Spec'd as a pavement car to run with IMCA....competed as AAA twice including Canada.
Won pole for it's first race the Little 500 at Anderson Speedway OH. Finished third.
Magnesium Hilborn injected 327 Chevy, magnesium Halibrand wheels, 4-corner magnesium Halibrand disc brakes. Dirt cars sometimes run one caliper.
In-out gearbox, no clutch or flywheel.

Little 500 is held the night before Indy around a quarter mile pavement track, 500 laps with 33 cars competing, so it's basically a 70 mph traffic jam for 3 hours. Unusually, infield pitstops are required for fuel and tires so push starts are chaotic.

Benny Rapp raced speedway for 60 years!

Aussie V8 Supercars season opener this weekend......first outing for Penske Mustangs.... they won both races this weekend ..

T.C. .......Mustang is new for this year. Stretched bodywork to fit spec tube frame like nascar but there are some remnant O.E. parts used such as a-pillars and winshield frame, instrument panel (dash to y'all) , roof and rear window opening, dogleg pillars. An increasing % of parts are carbon/ kevlar.
Nissan run Altima cos originally the series ran sedan body shapes only. Holden run an Opel designed Commodore new last year. Opel designed cos no more GM cars built here. The image posted on "Wheels Up" is the Commodore.
Ford had to go Mustang cos no more Falcon local production here. Camry is the only locallybuilt car.
There has been some criticism of Supercars not having the foresight to modify the spec chassis/cage to accommodate current body styles. Marco Andretti has bought into the Holden factory team now run by Ryan Walkinshaw (Le Mans sportscars 20 years ago) and they say they will "NOT BASTARDIZE" the Camaro body to fit that chassis and suffer justified criticism like Mustang has.
Walkinshaw runs a factory authorized and warrantied conversion business importing Camaro, Chev Silverado and Dodge RAM .........right hand drive conversions, Australian Design Rule compliance (side intrusion, seat belts, tyres, airbags) . They strip ALL these vehicles from front bumper to rear window, weld proper pressed and laser cut patch panels, mostly to firewall, paint, insulate and re-assemble. ... impressive! !!
Note: I'm ex-GM body design so got a bit carried away. ..sorry....still a passion at 66 y.o.

Skip, I can understand your point, but Greg was an Inspiration to me and he did not want anyone to be sad.

I'd like to think that I'm taking the other direction and posting more in hope that Greg's spirit lives on - he was always about helping others, whether it was about his fight against Cancer, Cars, Guns, Life in General. Guys, I didn't know Greg a tenth of how many of y'all did. Except for here and the few personal calls we did have when I needed to pick his brain about something and some advice. But, one thing I do know, is Greg WOULD NOT want any discontinuance of stopping of anything car related on his behalf. I felt compelled to post here because one thing I'm certain of is that the greatest tribute we can pay to those who've made an impact in our lives is to continue their legacy, that is to say, to "pay it forward" to others by taking the opportunities we're presented with to help others, whether it be a random act of kindness or simply extending a word of encouragement or helping hand. Those we help may not even know for whose sake we do it, but WE know and that's enough to keep them on our hearts and minds. Certainly, talking about them and sharing memories and funny stories is a wonderful way to honor their memory as well.

Well...since were talking squarebody’s...I keep one in my shop I built. It’s my brothers. He bought it new in 87’. Took me 20 years due to my brother having 6 kids and always putting them first.
Yes, 1 owner 50k miles. He custom ordered it, back when you could do that. 350, 4 sod, a/c, posi, and 3.73 gears. Midnight blue. Front appearance package. He was 19. I drove this to school once in 88, bu it only had 6 inch lift at the time.

He’s got $5k in just stainless socket head bolts on it. 14 reservoir gas shocks, 1 ton axles, 17” lift, custom built 15x20 wide headlocks, 44” tires, etc. It’s a 6 figure deal. That particular show is that clubs big one, and it’s in August. They do several smaller shows throughout the summer. I’ll ask my brother which shows he’s interested in doing and get back with you. But again, it’s sitting here if you ever head this way. I have a cool 92’ RS camaro that my mom bought new here also. She parked it in 97’ so you can imagine it’s pretty nice. Pretty much a time capsule. Up and gave it to me a couple months ago.

I believe they were 2 different cars. IIRC that on the Indy Pace car ‘78 Vettes the decals were not applied at the factory. Perhaps the same situation for the ‘79 TA’s(?).

“It was in another development of the 2E, called 2G, that Hall's driving career came to a premature end.
