Ok, a bit overdramatic but we now have a place where you can give your opinion on PHR and what stuff you want to see in the magazine.

It's not a message board like this place, but it sure beats doing snail mail to the editors.

Steve, tell Johnny that I think you're doing a heckuva job with PHR. I subscribe to CHP and SC but PHR is the only mag I paid for two years, upfront.

can we get different places to shoot the cars? ive noticed that the white factory/wearhouse has been used alot. also seems like the desert looking road with the town in the distance has been used alot. not that the back grounds are bad, id just like to see some different desert roads with different towns in the distance. picky i guess, but i normally dont notice these things and as of late ive noticed. that aside its great. keep the Mopars commin

I would like to know if those penis pills really work that PHR advertise's so much. I think the guys at PHR should try them and give us a tech article if they really work. Seriously!!!

less ads
less subscription cards ( they are a pain and end up on the floor anyhow.
im sure readers are willing to pay a bit more for the mag if less ads were in it.
more tech info and real world rides / projects.

They need to use those cards and the advertisements, and to be honest, I do buy a lot of parts that this site and PHR's advertisements. I bought things I didn't know were out if it was not for the ads in the magazine.

I'd like to see the magazine go high end in their presentation. Meaning full color on every page and have a centerfold pull out in every issue. Something like Summit does with their catalog. Make it 3 pages in size and have one of the pages be the calendar for the month. I'd also like to see more full page images of the feature cars. I'd gladly pay more each month for a high end car magazine. It seems that all the magazines are cutting as many costs as possible these days (which I totally understand), so it would be neat to see one of them break the mold and do something totally different.

Another thought, how about an annual PHR collectors issue that highlights all the cool stuff from the prior year and make it high end where you'd want it as a coffee table book. Something like Camaro Performers, but with the PHR reader base and a much higher quality presentation.

I don't know, just random thoughts. :)

It's tough to find good places to shoot cars. The main problem is that some cities are very strict and want permit up the wazoo to shoot anywhere in thier town.

I don't know about the warehouse you mentioned. Sometimes if we shoot multiple cars (like at an event) they are shot at the same local.

The road you mentioned is on the CA/NV border.. the town in the distance is Stateline. I think we have shot 4-5 cars there. It's deserted, paved and provides a neutral background.

We are happy campers when we find a new place to shoot a car :)

 Stuart, is it time for SEMA yet? :captain:

Seriously though, getting back to the magazine question, we can get any Primedia magazine subscription we want for about a buck an issue. I'd gladly pay double that for a magazine that was a step or two above the rest. :)

Well, that company pays THOUSANDS of $$$$$$ every month to advertise them (full page in every issue since I've been here).. that tells me that quite a few readers are ordering those pills..

Less ads? lol.. actually we want more ads. More ads means we get more pages for edit. If the magazine is 140 pages then over 90 pages of that is edit. That's a pretty good ad/edit ratio. Ever pick up a womens magazine? It's almost all ads :)

The card are a pain, but they help pay the bills.

We will be starting to do more smaller install stories and various ride. Also, we are always happy to cover budget rides.

We are full color now.. only a few ads are B&W. Having the perfect-bound means no centerfold (needs to be stapled for that). Also, we include a calendar in every January issue.

There has been talk of an annual "best of" issue. I think it would be a great idea.

NOTE: putting these comments on the website is much better. The big shots read all the comments and your comments carry much weight.

No way to know.. but I would suspect that someone is since the company continues to spend tens of thousands of dollars buying ads..

My wife has to cut those pages out when she takes extra issues to her school (for the students)..

And Frank.. you seem almost.. hmmm.. worried????

well i look at the mag now and 75% is ads
i buy the mag to learn something.
At least group the ads in the back of the mag.
And think of the readers as to what is presented in the mag.
we cant all throw 30 grand at our cars at a drop of a hat to achieve the upgrades/mods most mags feature in them.
cmon the guy who reads the mag is a bluecollar worker doing 40-60 hour weeks and does his cruizing on the weekends with limited money to spend on his ride.
Id say get back to basic test/tune ups and realworld hotrodding ideas.
Yes i know the ads pay the bills but so do the people that would buy the mag if it wasnt chock full of ads.
I myself used to subscribe to just about all the hotrodding mags but just got fed up with all the ads.
i now only read street thunder magazine.
less ads ,real world rides, more substance and less fluff

Uh, you are wrong.. in fact your are so far wrong that you arn't even in the ballpark..

You say 75% ads? lol.. do you even read PHR? I just ran a check and for the November issue we are somewhere just south of 30% adds. That means we have 90 pages of edit for every 30 pages of ads.

Sorta hard to buy the rest of what you're selling when you are so far off on you opening thought.

Oh, and of those ads most are "grouped in the back of the book".. so again I ask if you actually read PHR?

Anyways, thanks for the feedback

I agree, I like the High dollar cars, but I have noticed that you guys are putting more under construction pics. Mine would be a good one!! Or you can just wait till its done. There are not enough custom chevelles that stray away from the classic paintjob with wheels and a crate motor. I must admit, I'm a magazine whore and have been reading it since I was about 9. Great job and keep up the good work.

When I say under construction shots, I mean along with the finished car feature to show it before during and after. Makes a feature almost a tech story all in one.

You guys already do a great job of press releases for cars being built.

Agreed, Frank. It's cool to see the build shots along with the glamor shots.

As for the ads in the magazines, I use them as a resource for finding vendors for products I'm researching.

I also like when magazine put a manufactures list with page numbers in the back of the magazine, to find them faster. So that's my suggestion, :D .

Yea, that would be cool. However, you would be surprised how many people don't take "under construction" pics. I think it would be nice to at least show a "before" shot of the car in the feature.

Again, I will pass these idea along but they are seen by the "powers" if they are posted on the feedback site.

The under construction section has become my favorite section of the magazine.

Having the perfect-bound means no centerfold (needs to be stapled for that).

I didn't think that the monthly Summit catalog is a stapled magazine. Steve you need to look into this. I seem to remember that the Summit centerfold is is a trifold that is bound into the magazine and is perferated so it can be removed. A centerfold every month would be great.
