View Full Version : Wayne Due closing shop?
I just read this on his website. I was hoping he was coming out with a C5 subframe, so I didn't have to make due with Mustang II parts for a '66 Nova.

It is with great sorrow to announce the closing of Wayne Due's Chassis Shop. Do to unforseen circumstances beyond my control I am closing up shop.
If you have an order in with me already, I will be in contact with you. Don't worry your frame will be finished and shipped to you.
For those that feel the world is coming to an end because you didn't get your order in yet, please email me your name, address, best method of contact and what clip you are wanting. Should circumstances settle to where we can build a limited quantity or my shop hand takes over then we will contact you in order of request.
It is with the upmost sincerity that I extend to my customers, many of which have become friends, a very grateful thank you for all the years of support and admiration!
Wayne
Sorry to hear this Wayne. You've been a good guy to me over the years, and I wish you the best.

It appears that something has come up which requires him to shut down the business, and unless something changes he will no longer be doing this for a living.

Do to unforseen circumstances Using the phrasing he used probably means he doesn't want to go into it. My suggestion is to be respectfull and not ask. It doesn't matter anyway, if Wayne sees this as the right decision, then it's the right decision.
Even though we were going to be competitors, this is sad news to Mark and I, and we wish Wayne and his team the best of luck now and in the future.

Oh man, Wayne has been a prince to us at Prodigy. I hope it is just business in general and nothing physical or worse.
As stated above, it is most repsectfull not to ask, but part of me wants to know why. I will be respectfull.
Godd Luck Wayne in whatever you do. So now the hobby is short one nice guy.

Wow, this is not the type of thing we like to see, again, as Matt put it, even though we are competitors. Life can throw more curveballs at you than you might be prepared for, and as was said before, I certainly hope this isn't due to something worse than a business decision.
Best of luck, Wayne and crew.

That sucks... was just over at a friend's house looking at some of his more extensive work... full frame all C5 '68 Camaro including the transaxle, getting a dry sumped 430" LS1 for road race duty, 305 & 335s, etc. Going to be sweet when finished.
Here's how it was at Wayne's shop, my friend has the powertrain and suspension in but is still doing wiring, plumbing, and finishing the bodywork.

Must be something pretty major if he's offering to sell the jigs. Unfortunate to hear to say the least.

Good luck Wayne.

I really wish that this was not happening! Wayne has always been such a great guy. I have had many conversations about his and others venders quailty products, and sorry to here this uneasy news :( . I feel very fortuneate that I had ordered his C5 frame a while ago. Just hope that maybe I will be able to help this "Great Man" in our pro-touring world, as he helped so many of us.

It's suprising to me that he would just close shop, rather than try to sell the business. Seems to me a place like that, with its customer base, and employees would be worth something to sell as a complete business, with it's good name and reputation.

I am very sorry to hear about that. I will echo what others have stated in that I sincerely hope it's not a health issue but rather a business decision. Regardless I wish him the best.

Sad news indeed!!
I thought things were clicking right along with the addition of the new SF that uses DSE's parts, that caught my eye!
DSE and the others build really nice frames...but this hobby owes Wayne for all he has done...thanks bud!!
Like the others I hope to God it isn't a health issue, you can always make it threw the financial ones....

Its not a health issue. So thank God for that.
He has just run into unforeseen circumstances that are requiring him to stop production a bit.
He did say that the jigs might be for sale on the website, but he was testing the waters incase it does require him to shut down, but because of all the calls and e-mails in interest for them they aren't for sale right now

Is there anyone out there that is running his subframe that can supply me with the locations for the upper and lower arms? UCA front and rear pivot and LCA front and rear pivot points? I'd like to compare the Geometry with some other designs

Last time we had someone on these boards looking for some measurements for "info" he was taking the items and copying the design. Ended up being a competitor to one of our best vendors by basically stealing the design.
I am not saying you are doing that, but do not be surprised if people do not want to share Waynes design.

Thanks for the reply, I can understand. I'm just a regular guy. I have no interest in making anything for anyone other than myself. I'm just curious how his frame is different from the stock vette locations (yes I know the engine is set back in the vette) and how it compares to other designs. I have a preliminary design already which looks pretty good on paper. I'm using the susprog3D recomended to me by astro racer. I've talked to a lot of guys about different setups for the front, and everyone seems to have just a little different approach. Before I commit to cutting and welding steel, I'd like to have all the bases covered.
My regrets to Wayne about having to close shop, I was very glad to hear it's not health related.

Anyone that read my previous message please disregard my guess at what is going on with Wayne. I just found out from him that the problem he is having is with the city. They are hassling him for some stupid ass zoning law! It's sad to see when government gets in the way of someone that is doing an honest days work to make an honest buck and trust me, with the quality that wayne was putting out, it was as honest as they come. Wayne, I replied to your e-mail. Thanks for getting back to me. :hail:

All I can say is... it was an easy mistake to make. That was my first guess, too. In this case, I'm glad to be wrong. :)

I wouldn't be surprised if it was some stupid neighbor of his with nothing better to do than to rat people out.
