Hey Guys need some Help........I have a 69 Camaro 18" wheels LS and T56 with stock front subframe with QA1 front coil overs. What coil weight and length should I be running? It now has 350LBS 10" coils and rides real firm. Wonder if I can smoothen it up a bit. What do you guys suggest?
Thanks
Steve

350 I think is actually very light, is it firm because the shock setting is stiff? or is the spring so soft that the collar is tightened all the way up to keep ride height and now creating coil bind and the making the ride rough
are the arms stock? stock arms have a terrible motion ratio and I think require more spring
what LS? a cast iron truck block is heavy and that T56 weighs a ton, I would have started you at 550 lb spring from QA1 (spring weights from different companies work differently)
hope this helps
I have Art Morrison subframe and C6 control arms with T56 and SBC and I have QA1 12" rated at 500lbs and Strange adj. shocks. Definitely not a smooth ride on city streets, but about what I expect considering the ride height.

Depending on the motion ratio, it really varies but 350lb sounds very light on a coilover. For example, with our control arms and their motion ratio, we run a 650lb for a street/daily driver feel.
The firmness that you're experiencing could be cause by coil bind, shock bottoming out, etc.

Rod I'm running speed tech tubular upper and lower control arms. Its an all aluminum LS1. What I did notice when I took the suspension apart was my lower control arms are really hard to move up and down. Could I have the lower arms too tight? Also I originally Had the adjustment all the way to the firmest setting. I backed it off and it rode much better. Reason why I'm all over this is because I'm replacing my lower ball joints and wanted to double check what coils I have in there. I gave QA1 a shout today and they recommended running the 350LBS springs. Not quite sure what to do at this point lol. Thanks for the help guys!!

Josh I'm in the middle of installing your 4 link in the rear and so far I'm extremely impressed with your product and customer service. I would love to match my front to my rear suspension but with our dollar its just not in the cards this year.:shakehead:

Posting a couple pics showing what the adjustment is at for the ride height I want. The ride height was perfect with the front tire just tucking into the fender
well. Do you guys think the adjustment is cranked up too much to achieve the ride height I'm after? At this adjustment the coils had around 1/2" between each other.

I tend to agree with Rod, I would expect to be running a much heavier spring say in the 500 to 600 range. That said, you should be able to adjust the ride quality with the shock adjustment.

i would have sold you 550 lb springs for that combo.
just to ad gas to the fire. i think 350 is too light and agree with Rod that you then need to adjust the compression way up to have the car not bottom out.

On my strut car with an iron block and heads, a 300# C/O has a wheel rate of 270#. This wheel rate more than exceeds the wheel rate of conventional springs in the 1000# range. I think a wheel rate calculation is more relevant than static spring rate.
So what are the wheel rates we are discussing?

I am gonna swap out my coil overs for a set of ride tech to match my 4 Link. I was taking some measurements that Ryan asked for at ride height and was wondering if my lower control angle is ok? The bottom of the control arm is not level to the ground.

Thanks for the good words, they're greatly appreciated! :D
I definitely understand, the exchange rate definitely doesn't help. Just let me know if I can help you in the future with anything.
*edit, I just now saw your post saying that you were measuring up for our coilovers. Did you get everything figured out on that? My direct line is 812-481-4734 if you need help.

A 500 lb coil on a Morrison sub has the same wheel rate as a 950 coil on a stock sub.

I picked up a set of 550lbs 10" long coils from QA1. Installing them in the next few weeks. Keep you posted on how it works out. Thanks to everyone for their help.
