hey guys/gals. i currently have american racing torque thrust 2 on my car and do not like them. they are 17x8's all around. looking for a change. 1st question is what is the widest wheel for the rear without modification and do you recommend 17 or 18" wheels. i need atleast a 9 or 10" on the rear and probably an 8" up front
17 or 18 and what style?

Welcome.
Spend some time in Wheels Gallery in the technical section below. There are quite a few fastbacks' on there and since style is subjective, you'll get a good idea of type and fitment. Hope this helps, cheers...

A 9" wheel will need to be spot on with the BS...10" I don't think will happen unless you're raising the car, and you're on the wrong forum for that. My wife's 66 has 16x8" with a 255 and its tight.
IMO 17-18" rims look horrible unless they have the correct width and sidewall of tire. An 18x10 looks great but not sure you'll get there without modifying something. Just drop it off at the shop and build it the way you want it.

Couple things, having a 65-66 mustang it is a pain to fit anything in these cars. The widest tire you are going to get in the rear is a 255 on a 8 inch wheel without doing flares or mini-tubs.
On the front depending on offset the biggest I've seen is a 245 on a 8 inch wheel, but it will rub and you will not get full turning radius.
I am running a 225/45/17 on the front with roller fenders, and 245/45/17 in the rear.
It's personal taste on 17or18, 17 inch wheels look nice on these, but tires sizes are getting limited. 18 look a little big, I've seen a couple with 17 front and 18 rear that don't look bad.

Contact Mike Maier inc.
Mike was running I believe 18x9 or 18x10 square with a 265 quite sometime ago on old blue when it had torque thrust M wheels. with that size tire be prepared to modify the wheel lips at the very least.
after looking at it again it may have also had his small flare front fenders.

Here is another shot with the center caps on.. They are Budnik's Tungsten. I did a brushed hoop with a turbine center. I wish I had them cleared as clean up is a PIA with the brushed hoop. If I was keeping the car on the next set of tires id have them clear coated.

Very nice! Looking forward to more pictures too!
Specs on the engine give me hope for my 427 output. Very similar except 12:5-1 on e85. It's ben on a engine stand for a year while I work on sheetmetal:bang:
