I brought home a 70 Camaro this week.

My goal with the car is to be mostly street but I would like to be able to do an occasional track day.

I'm planning on installing a sleeved & bored LS2 (454 ci) and T56 trans.

I want to mini tub the rear so I can maximize the rear tire size.

My questions are what rear suspension should I go with? There are so many manufacturers out there it gets confusing. I figure to loose the leaf springs and go with either 3 or 4 link, or maybe torque arm.

Many of the kits I see seem to use the stock leaf spring front perches. If you use the front perches does that interfere with the tire width?

This is new territory for me so any suggestions/guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Craig

Craig, Our Torque Kit does use the Leaf Spring Perch on the Axle (we have an offset Arm coming from the front mount) so you need to get the right off-set wheels to maximize width. On our Kit, you can get a 315 on a 11 inch wheel.

If you go to our 9" Rear Housing Kit, you gain more clearance - up to a 345 on a 13" Rim

The front spring perch location is not a problem with wide rear tires. A lot of the aftermarket rear suspensions use the stock spring perch because it is a strong point in the body structure and does not interfere with mini-tubs and wide tires.

Hello Craig,

I think leaf springs are under rated. They can perform well when the correct rates, shocks and a sway bar or watts link are added. They are also a lot less time consuming to install and less expensive as well. A 4 link is really just turning the rear suspension into a Chevelle rear suspension which isn't too much better. A 3 link is ideal but requires a lot of cutting and welding (unless I am missing some bolt on kit?) Torque arms are expensive but work nice.

What's your ultimate goal for the car as how it will be used and driven?

As for mini tubs... upon our research DSE has about the best out there.

I hope this helps some.
