so I am getting close on my wheels and tires and I was wondering after lots of reading and emailing people, I am still finding a lot of rubbing issues with the ridetech tru turn even on 18x9 18x9.5 wheels and a 265 tires. As my car will be 99% street driven and I do not want to cut my inner fenders. Will will a 255/40 front tire work with a 315/30 rear?

here are some measurements from falken

255/40R18 95W 28233844 9.0 8.5 - 10.0 25.9 10.3 794 9.4 8 28 51 1521 BLT -

Paul it looks like that front tire is taller than the rear. Not sure you want that...

I just put 255/40R18 on the 69 I am building for my wife and they look fine. 8.5" wheel with 5.5 backspacing and Tru-turn.

so in in effort to keep in a 18" rear wheel what if I dropped down to this

255/35ZR18
(94Y) XL
300 AA A 1,477 lbs. 50 psi 10/32" 25 lbs. 8.5-10" 9" 10.2" 9.5" 25" 832 US

295/35ZR18
(103Y) XL
300 AA A 1,929 lbs. 50 psi 10/32" 28 lbs. 10-11.5" 10.5" 11.9" 10.8" 26.1" 797 FR

how does a 295/35/18 look on a 18x11 wheel?

I spent hours researching tire combos for my 69.

It seems a shame to go to all the expense of minitubbing and then use a 295 tire.

Schwartz has Forgelines 20% off and I am sure they could give you good advice on a tire combo.

I just finished a 67 Camaro with full ridetech suspension, tru-turn, with forgelines and 265/35-18 bfg rival up front, no rubbing. I am running 1 degree of negative camber as well.

I'm ordering Forgeline GA3's very soon for my 69 Camaro with tru-turn and the Ridetech level 2 suspension. What backspacing and wheel size did you use? What brake package?

Thanks, Jayson

18x9 with 6.125 bs I think. Have to double check. Wilwood 14" aero brakes. I can quote all of it if you wish. I am direct top level dealer with most all the manufacturers including Ridetech, Wilwood and Forgeline.

ugh I was all set on a 5.5 front back spacing per ridetech recommendation. seeing 6.125 makes me rethink it all. I am running the baer pro + brakes.

I used 8.5 with 5.5 backspacing on my wife's 69 so Mike is pretty much spot on for a 9" wheel. When you go wider you have to push it in further. Not sure why this makes you rethink everything...

What width of wheel did Ridetech specify for the 5.5 back spacing?

Don thanks again for all the guidance

I specifically asked about a 18x9 wheel and they said 5.5 BS would be perfect.

Based on my 8.5 with a 5.5 backspacing I would go with Mike's number. I think it would rub otherwise. Either that or you will need a lot of negative camber.

What's more important: No rubbing? Every ounce of performance?

Suspension tuning, alignment, and driving skill will make a much greater difference than 10mm of tire. The only reason I know this and say this is, I graduated from the 1-800-get car help class for car addicts.

So after some more reading the Wilwood aero kit adds too the offset "THIS BRAKE KIT HAS AN HUB OFFSET OF: +.38" while the baer kit I have does not add anything, so if my math is right 5.75 + .375 = 6.125.

any steering stops or does it still have full turning radius?

Thank-you for finding that, I was rethinking my backspacing, but I am running the Kore3 Z06 rotors and the reduce track width by -.240 which means I can run a 5.5 BS. 5.75 -.240 = 5.51

Thanks

yes, it has steering stops, but it still has pretty decent turning radius.
