I only just bought this car 5 days ago. After a successful 800+ mile drive from Texas back to Alabama without a hitch, I managed to grenade the motor on a short drive with my wife. Not really sure what happened except that the crankshaft is absolutely broken. So I'm about to build myself a restomod.

Background on the car... I bought from a friend who has owned the car since the mid 90's. It was his mothers before that. He upgraded quite a bit of the car over the 20+ years. 306 HO motor with AODe with 4r70w guts and an 8.8 that is narrowed to fit properly. 65 mustang front suspension with 10" power disc brakes out front with all new pieces and parts.

My plan... TCI front IFS and rear 4-link, Wilwoods front & rear, and best of all...2015 Mustang 2.3L Ecoboost and 6-sp tranny.

Pics of it as I picked it up. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161013/d2fcacd89631f4971f33f13812160175.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161013/5dd0d48f604e8f139388e3aa04e2e5ef.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161013/309a19788836f1358359718216acb392.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161013/72558ee3223a39a46e30cd9ce8e38a88.jpg

That is a great looking hardtop. You might want to check out my build thread if you want any ideas.

I am not personally a fan of the MII suspension. It has too steep of a KPI so you cannot optimize it fully.

I actually read your thread. Very informative and I love your car. I don't exactly have your background and certainly don't have access to the equipment you do. Since you mention it, what style/brand front suspension would you suggest? I'm absolutely open to suggestions.

I would go with the Mike Maier Inc stuff up front. More or less bolt in and works great. Lots of brake options for original spindles. Add the ABS power steering box and the front end is dialed.

Worked on getting the hurt motor out today. Motor wouldn't turn over at all..even with a huge breaker bar on the crank bolt. So I peeled all the accessories off and found this. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161015/1835cfca422d11dce528051ab2f81923.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161015/ec5fe9f989ccc9e8dbd710c3968a6d64.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161015/a49025144dc3d822a865781433ebb369.jpg

So after HOURS of beating hammering and beating some more I finally got to this. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161015/218f4d3ae45e8b46dc4128159e9b4e60.jpg

And confirmed that the block is junk... http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161015/df53748407daf344b4dfbc8b299e0aa4.jpg

So did the block crack and that allowed the crank to move or did the crank brake and that cracked the block?

How high were you or your buddy reving it? I've got pretty much the same motor in my car and run it to 5900 quite a bit. I would rather not break it right now so maybe I should be more conservative with the rev limiter.

It was me & my wife. We weren't driving the car hard at all. I had just driven the car from Texas back to Alabama without any issues. And I'd enjoyed several high rev passes. I'm really not sure what happened, but I feel like it was the cast crank that gave up the ghost.

How much does the 2.3 engine and 6 speed tranny weigh?

I'm sure i've got pics of Licata's car on the scale somewhere around here. It was pretty darn light though even with the SBF.

After some investigation on the 2.3 it's out for now. I bought a 347 short block this weekend and hope to get it into the car in the next few weeks so I can at least enjoy the car. But I'll be investigating suspension upgrades very soon.

I also bought some good heads & cam and fasteners + most of the pieces to go EFI.

I forgot my password and couldn't get a password change link via email, so I had to change my "name" to get a new login, but I've saved it and will now be known as Nlped47 :headspin:
