My 68 is going in for paint very soon. It's a factory SS big block, but i'm converting to RS grill, parkers, and reverse lights.
I'm undecided on what badges i want to run...
I like the sleek look of cars like Penny with no badges at all, but i plan to run a bumblebee stripe, and either SS or the RS badges on the sides. Mine originally had 396 badges up front i think, i have a NOS set to replace them with, but it now has a 454 in it, so it just doesn't feel right running them.
Are the holes for the 396/SS/RS badges the same on the front of the fender? or do i have to make up my mind which badges i'm going to run before i paint?
I'm trying to spread the cost a little, and buy the badges etc after paint (it's costing me a fortune for paint), and all the RS conversion stuff is also hitting the wallet hard.
Is there a particular badge set that was run on RS cars, or were they all different? Ie: did some RS cars run SS badges on the sides/grill?
And do you think the car will look funny with just the bumblebee and SS badges, but no other badges on the sides?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance guys.

well i cant help ya decide, but i can suggest that you go ahead and shave the emblem holes, then attach the badges with 3M double sticky tape, that way you can always take em off or change them should you change your mind down the road.

67' cars had the RS or SS badges on the front "nose" of the cars fender in front of the side lamps would be on a 69' (no side lamps until 68). In 68 they started to use the engine displacement emblems(327,350,396) in place of the RS, SS badges in the front nose of the fender and moved the SS behind the front wheel middle fender area. The 68' SS/RS only had SS enblems. Grill, fenders, and gas cap. The holes for the engine displacement emblems are all the same. If your fenders are new they will not have the holes (at least Goodmark dident), you will have to tap and drill. Make sure the holes are in the correct space. I have seen countless times where people place there emblems in the WRONG place. It makes me sick:
Example of wrong placement:

Here's th correct placement and a damn good looking 68:

I think if you were to do the Bumble Bee stripe on your 68' and only want the SS badge, NOTHING else, and put the 68' SS emblem(which is contoured for that spot) on the Correct place( behind the front wheel) it might look strange I'm not sure. If you use the 67 SS emblems which are made for the contour of that spot up front in the Bumble bee stripe it would look sweet since you do not want any other emblems BUT.... thats if you don't mind people telling you that thats not correct for 68'......... or they could say "why dident I think of that"! up to you. I think it all matters on what style your going for, stock or custom. Thats my thoughts.
Oh yeah if you do end up putting the SS or RS emblems up front where the engine displacement emblems go.. the holes will be diffrent.

thanks project, thats been a big help....
these little things can either make or break the appearance of the car.... and i wanna get it right the first time....
i much prefer the smaller 'CAMARO' caps type badge used on the sides of the 67 to the script type camaro used on the sides of the 68. I didnt realise all the 68's had the engine displacement up front.
Thanks race-rodz - the double sided tape is a good idea too, i will consider that.
I need one of those renderings done of my car before i go further  There are so many colour choices, and small options that make this so hard to decide.

here's some quick colour schemes i'm liking with my wheels... what do you guys think? I like the silver with white bumblebee, and no other badges.
In case you guys are wondering i whipped these up on the newstalgia wheel simulator... kinda cool, they seem to be updating the features on it too. You can now put staggered wheel sizes etc.
