Well im frustrated with the Bonnies engine..

it starts up first crank.. like 2 sluggish cranks then its up and fine..

it has a new battery..

its fluids are all good..

not leaking nowhere..

the fuel is getting to where it needs to be..

but for some reason.. after i drive it for a few mins.. like 10 mins and stop and turn off the car.. it wont turn back on.
i dunno what it is.. at first it still cranked but sluggishly..
now it just cranks once then ticks.. the battery meter says it has voltage so other than that its just a hot engine..

but for 10 mins.. damn.. i have to wait like 4 hours till i can drive it again..

what can i do about this?..

a friend told me to get a high performance starter..

what does it sound like to you guys.. please help this is pretty frustrating.. and i need a good mechanic in atlanta to take the thing to..

Sounds like a heat soaked starter. Look into getting a heat shield or remote ford type solonoid.

does anyone know where i can learn how to install the solenoid?

how does it work?.. does it connect to the starter and battery?

where can i mount it?

thank you!

Check the M.A.D. electrical site they had diagrams how to wire one up, I have done it on my Nova, works great,

I just installed the MAD Enterprises kit and made sure the cable from the battery to the starter was real big. It cured the problems I had similar to yours. I mounted mine on the passenger side wheelwell near the battery. If I can do it, anyone can.

Do like Barry suggested and check everything first. I would suggest just replacing your ground straps and cables. If these are all original there is a good chance there is a lot of corrosion hurting the "system". Go big when you do it. You will be amazed at the difference they will make.

BAD problem with heatsoak and i thought i solved it

i installed a new high tourque starter with the solinoid mounted at the bottom so it doesnt heat up much.
i WAS going to intall a remote solinoid but it fixed it so i didnt.
it worked fine for a while.. a long while.

then i drove it about a 40 mile drive this weekend and now when i stop and start it again it wont start and drains the battery.. which i know it needs a new alternator.. but the alternator wouldnt be the only thing that could do it.

i put in a spare battery and it cranks but doesnt start up.. also the fuel filter isnt full like it normaly is.. i primed the carb and pumped the gas and still..

BUT.. when it cools down it starts right up!..

what could be wrong guys?!.. it was running fine now im worried to be stranded!..

help!!

What type of distibutor do you have?

My brothers car was doing the same thing and it ended up being the HEI ignition module. We even had the module tested at the local parts house and it checked fine. We ended up replaing everything in the distributor except the module and it still did it. I decided out of frustration to change the module and its been fine ever since. Also check the grown in the distributor, a buddy of mines 66 Vette acted this way and I found a bad ground in his distributor.

Replacing the module will most likely fix the problem. What happens is the module heats up and then quits working. Don't waiste your time checking it, I would almost bet my car that's what the problem is.
