What's your thoughts on this mirror? From the back it fits the body lines perfectly and doesn't look to big. From the front and side it looks to big. This is just mocked up with tape and a magnet, if it's put on the car it will be about 1/2"- 3/4" lower and closer to the body. When I first looked at it I didn't like it. The more I look at it though I'm starting to like it.

Oh man. When I saw the first picture at the same time I started reading your post, I thought to myself "man I like that mirror!"

Then I saw the rest of the pictures. It looks fine from behind, but in photos the mirror looks way too big. I love the shape/lines, but not the size. Your initial thoughts are spot on with mine.

Maybe it's better in person, but any chance there is a smaller version of that mirror out there somewhere?

It's hard to tell without seeing it in person. It does look good from the back but like you said, the bulk starts to show from the front and side. Move it to the location you're thinking and let it sit for a few days, see how it plays out.

My personal opinion. It looks like it came off a new car....although lots of folks do it, finding the balance of old and new and making it look correct isn't easy.

I WANT to like em.... but the sideshot looks too big and angular that doesnt match the curves of the 69... I say Nah.. sorry.

You guys are in line with what I was thinking on these. Since these are uber expensive ($65/pr) and the back side of the mirror fits pretty well as its only the side and front that kill it, well how about I just cut the front part up and make it smaller? I mean, it's not like I haven't modified every other part on my car, why stop now? Lol

The longer I look at it, the better it looks to me. I vote yes. Nice to see something different on a car that's been done to death.

.

Lines seem too bulky on the side angular view,... keep looking, the right one is bound to pop up!.

I bought these mirrors also and came to the same conclusion you did originally. They're still sitting on the shelf and I'll probably sell them. It's a shame seeing as I'm using so many other 5th gen parts in my build.
What I did find was 'Oracle' side mirrors, which are a redesigned and slimmer version of these, the downside is they're $499

So I cut the mirror down about 3" in length and lowered it about 1" and it still looks huge on the car. Matter of fact it made it look bigger from the back of the car. I'll try and get a picture tomorrow of it. I'm gonna search for some more mirrors before I give up and order Chevelle mirrors for it.

I don't normally comment on things like this but those bother me so much I'll make an acceptation. NO! It's a bad idea. DON'T DO IT!! If you do, there's a good chance that someone, I won't name names, will "accidentally" "bump" into them and break them. They make people angry...and that's just rude. If you do run them, be sure to add your "Hillary" bumper sticker. :BlahBlah:

Yeah...They don't work. Sorry man. :badidea:

I'm going to have to agree, a little too big for my liking.

2nd gen mirrors, while arguably unoriginal, are just such a good fit for a more modern look it's hard to improve on. Even the sport-bike motorcycle mirror has a better shot of looking good given the scale of the 1st gen.

So what you're saying is if I actually put those on my car that I should not drive it around Vegas?

I looked around last night a a bit and didn't come up with anything I liked yet. I'm kinda liking the one I idea of no mirrors and running a camera on each side with two screens.

Not in Vegas or anywhere. I've got a few "assets" around the country. NO I am not threatening you. This is "advise". There's a difference.

I'd have to see the camera type you're talking about. If it's what I thinking...you wouldn't have any exterior mirrors?

What about some carbon fiber 2nd gen ones with a thin light in the leading edge. Kind of like what Paul ran on the front bumper of his 2nd gen? Pays to the classic look and still has a touch of the modern vibe.

For the price I thought the mounting bracket sucked, but overall liked the look of the mirror

Fit in factory holes, if you don't like them for $50 bucks throw them out. They look good on my car. Not a fan of big mirrors

These are the anvil mirrors with no good provision to install the stock brackets, the inner tabs are missing. So they will require additional fab to install them. Stielow fabbed metal inserts with threaded install points, which is my plan.

92-99 Olds 88 mirrors are a slightly modern variant to the second gen mirrors. If you shop around I'm sure you can find better pricing. Ingrabbed a new pair for $40 a while back.

Thanks, I will search his thread for pictures of the inserts b/c I'm always worried the stock mount will break.
