A little background on Keith and his car.........In June I took the Impala Convert and went to a car show in Union Grove........when I parked I was met by some friends and we talked for a 1/2 hour......I noticed a guy standing behind my car waiting for us to finish talking.......when they left he came over and asked me if I was Ken......LOL........Ended up that Keith followed every build that is posted on this site.....We had just finished Gary's car and he knew everything about the build and knew everything about the Impala Convert also........Holy Cow.......We talked about the transformation of Gary's car and how he was in Awe of the new drivetrain over the old Big Block.......We talked about the Yenko site for about a 1/2 hour..........Fast forward about two weeks and I got to a little car show in Milwaukee and end up parking next to Keith.....He had a 65 Impala wagon at the Union Grove show but brought his 65 Impala hardtop to this show.......We got to talking and he told me he would love to duplicate the drivetrain in Gary's car in this car........Due to some Physical Limitations he was unable to complete this process himself........
To make a long story short.......Some of his friends removed the old drivetrain and parts not required and I gave him a list of parts to order and the car showed up today with the parts.........So.....Put the Pop corn on as it will be an Honor to help Keith out.......

Here is the car arriving today.....

The gears started turning today......Decided to get the old heater assy out and start to get the new A/C unit installed......Had to pull the inner fender panel out and heaven forbid........I found Dust on the inner panel,.........Sheesh !!!........Had to stop and clean it before reassembly.......Got the old unit out and added a new switch to the controller along with new cables........Then I got the new unit bolted into place and decided it was time to come in from the heat and take a Nap !!!!

Ken, question ... do you need to run a relay for the fuel pump or is it included with the GM fuse box? And did you run hard line or just braided line to the front, which brand do you use on all your LS swaps?

Thanks for all the knowledge, lookin great as usual,

Michael

kwhizz

The relay is already in the GM kit...One Wire Hook-up..............If the car has a good 3/8" steel line I will use it.......If not I use the -6 line as shown.......

Ken, thanks ... I just asked cuz I have a 3/8 fuel line but it just has a nipple on it for a slip on rubber hose w clamp. Guess I'll have to cut this off and prep it for a -6 line, yeah?

I have been asked by a few people to compile a list of parts required to to a "B" body LS swap.......I'll try...............LOL.....

GM Connect and Cruise assy or equivalent ........The GM set-up consists of mostly everything needed (engine , trans, torque converter, sensors, harnesses, engine and trans controllers, O2 sensors and Bungs, Etc)

Motor Mount adaptor plates that raise the engine 5/8" to clear the cross member (made by me.....If interested PM me) generic plates won't work

Holley 302-1 Pan

Kwik Performance front drive set-up

GM starter

I like to use a 2006 GTO 140Amp alternator (jumper cable 4 pin to 2 pin) from Speartech

Classic Auto Air heat and A/C retro kit

Recommended to get a Aluminum LS Radiator assy with dual fans (your choice)

Dakota Digital VHX gauges

Dakota Digital Fan Controller

Dakota Digital OBD module to feed the gauges directly from the ECM

you will need to move your Trans Cross member frame mounts back to suit

your drive shaft will need to be shortened or made new

A new fuel system will be needed......Tanks makes an economical set-up including Tank, Fuel Pump, Fuel level sender, and filter regulator....or you can go with advanced technology using a Ricks tank set-up with a Vaporworx pump controller

New fuel lines and fittings

Probably forgot a lot but I will update as I remember

Your radiator hose doodads? Shift linkage? Credit card?

Won't ecm control fans? Headers optional?

I am guessing that the radiator hose doodad is there as a coupler to make a custom hose.

ECM will control the fans.

I got nothing else...

With the Dakota Digital fan controller it is way easier to run two fans with separate on/off temperatures and tie into the AC system. Since the fan controller runs off of the OBDII port (CAN) that gets a signal from the CTS anyways you have the same accuracy with more adjustability for the end user.

If you have a single, one speed fan, use the ECM and tie the trinary switch into the relay.

If you have easy access to tuning software and can add some wires to the EFI harness, use the ECM, PWM, and an AC pressure switch.

I prefer the third option and build my cars that way. Less modules and the function is already in the PCM.

So........We did a lot of driving back and fort to the hydraulic hose shop......first to find the correct fittings.....(11/16-18 flared at the box and 16MM "O" ring on the pump) then fit the line and then Crimped....Got the pressure side installed then installed the reservoir and return lines.....added fluid and again......no leaks.....

Oh, I'm aware of that thread. I also have the software and I realize MOST people can't justify the price and learning curve. Long story short: Factory PCM's are easier, but it CAN be done on the connect and cruise PCM.
Thanks for the update on the Fusion fan controller. That is an excellent score. :)

Got pretty much all the Dakota Digital inside wiring finished today.......The car had a 4 speed and console in it.....Prior to bringing it over Keith covered up the hole for the shifter and bought a Shiftworks cable operated shifter assy........so....It was time to get it installed, but......it seems there are some adjustments needed to get the neutral safety switch adjusted correctly.......I'll get that set tomorrow along with getting the Gas Pedal installed..........then one step back.....found a leaky fuel line fitting at the gas tank.......and the lower dash A/C vents don't fit the under dash mounts......need to call them tomorrow and get the correct parts.........Going for the exhaust next Monday..............

Besides, aren't lock washers a bit redundant with nylock nuts?

Yes.........Just a simple bar that screws into the alternator ..........then I cut off the original mounting tabs and drilled a hole in the mount .........and it screws into the bar.......the beauty is that is swings on an Arc so you have some room to hit the sweet spot !!!

Got the Trinary switch and all the A/C wiring finished today........then I moved on to the Fan Relay's.....That open area next to the Battery sure filled up fast......LOL........Done !!!........one of those stupid little things that was a little problem was the Brake Booster Vacuum line......the Power Booster had a hole size larger than most and I couldn't find a Check Valve to fit with the new sizes needed.....so....I made up a adapter and blended the large and small hoses together........Started to put the dash assy in.......I'll finish that up tomorrow and then the last thing (hopefully) to do is to drop the Gas Tank and reseal the pipe thread fittings that leak one drop at a time......Darn.......Gotta fix it....
