I am looking forward to building this engine since my late 396ci coughed it up years ago due to some crappy parts.

Then I built a 501ci BBC out of a tall deck block, 454 pistons, and a custom 4.3in crank and it was a torque monster that out gunned out 540ci.

So now I have the 540ci in my 1978 Nova and I am about to venture back to the world of a short stroke big block and slide my 396's crank into the 540's block with the same pistons and put a set of 6.6in rods to make up for the lost stroke.

The end result should be a very rev happy 475ci big block that kinda resembles the old McLaren Can-Am race cars of the 60s and 70s just minus the aluminum block.

I built a 3.75 x 4.5 BBC for my 68 project corvette. The engine did 810/669 @ 7000rpm. The engine is not installed yet but I'm happy.

I was figuring(and hoping) for 775hp but the main goal is to build a motor to take 8000rpm shifts and keep on going.

8000 rpm in a big block is some serious stuff..at least keeping it together very long anyways. It's only money!

It isn't much of a problem now with how much I've learned since my 396ci was built, never buy Keith Black pistons for starters.
That was the only thing that really went wrong with my 396ci.

But with this build I am going to try and use the Venola pistons that are in the 540 with some Eagle 6.6in rods, and a chromed journal 427 crank that's been laying around since the 396 and take my time putting this thing together.
