View Full Version : Analyze My Camber Curve Please

Hey all,
Been messing with a MII spindle setup (dont hate). I am designing a front suspension for a '64 Fairlane. Id like it to handle well, but it will not be on the track every weekend by any means. Mostly a street car that is much better performance wise than it was originally.
I have been playing with different pivot locations and arm lengths. I can get bump camber to do what I want, but trying to get positive camber during rebound is a bit tough to do.
What do you all think of the numbers below? Any suggestions? Thanks!

Camber at SRH = -.35*

BUMP-

1" = -1* 2" = -1.81* 3" = -2.72*

REBOUND-

1" = +.18* 2" = +.59*


These are relative to the static camber setting. So at 1" of bump, the camber change is actually .65*.

This also gives me a swing arm length of 97.188" long, with the intersection of the upper and lower theoretical lines being 11.44" off the ground.

I keep changing things...

If I make the lower arm parallel with the ground at ride height, I get a SA length of 121", that is 9.35 above the ground. However, at 2" of bump, the SA length is already at 76.76" out and only .972" above the ground. At static ride height, the front RC is at 2.132" above the ground. At 2" of bump, the RC drops to .350" above the ground. This is looking at only one side of the suspension. I have not modeled the opposing side, which it seems I need to do. This is simulating one tire going into bump, while the other tire stays at static ride height. As one goes into bump, and the other goes into rebound, I can see how it will change the RC laterally in the car and no longer be on the vehicle centerline.

This setup gives me the following camber curve...thoughts?

Static @ Ride Height Camber = -.35*
BUMP-

1" = -.91* 2" = -1.6* 3" = -2.42*

REBOUND-

1" = +.04* 2" = +.32*

Anyone think this is any better than the previous setup? Is it normal to achieve such minimal positive gain during rebound?

Last one for today...I think. Moved the pivot for the LCA up .300" above the balljoint pivot of the LCA(lower arm going downhill toward the BJ). I came up with the following:

Static Camber = -.35*
RC Height @ Static Height = 3.393" above ground
RC @ 2" Bump = 1.667" above ground
RC @ 2" Rebound = 5.876

Camber Curve is as follows:

BUMP

1" = -1.02* 2" = -1.81* 3" = -2.77*

REBOUND

1" = +.20* 2" = +.62*

I feel this is moving in the correct direction for sure. Camber curve looks decent for the type of car I am hoping for, and the RC is not moving nearly as drastically as it was. Thoughts?
