I had, for the last 30 years, been blue with white rally stripes on my '68 Camaro. The blue had metalic in it, and the white had a pearl added.

Well, I'm painting it again, and still using blue. I would like to have white rally stripes again, but I'm having a hard time with the white. I'm trying to stay away from a tri-coat on the white (for later matching in case of any accidents or other issues). I'm looking for any factory white that has metalic in it, or a very light silver with metalic.

From the paint shop, putting metalic in white does not work so well. I'm not really sure why... maybe the white pigment just absorbs the metalic and you don't really see any metal flake... seems odd.

Any suggestions on a really light/bright silver? Or maybe an off-white with metalic in it from the factory?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Solid colors really soak up the metallics and micas.... you've just got to dump in a ton of product to have it show up. I'd suggest making a small batch and pay attention to the ratio to crate a formula IE- a pint ( unreduced) then add pearl/metallic, etc. and either weigh the amount of pearls, which takes a very good scale, or use measurements.... IE- level teaspoons and keep track. then create spray out panels to check in good light or preferably sunlight. Keep in mind that there needs to be clear on the sprayouts to really see the refraction and gauge your amount of pearl. This can be done, it's just a tedious process.

Hope this helps!

Check out the Diamond White Metallic on the higher end Mercedes cars. Saw it the other day at the dealership, great color.
