I am getting ready to fire up my Blueprint 427 which has been dyno'd before I received it. I have the auto meter conversion electric oil pressure and temp adapters on the back where the original oil sensors were. I have a tee setup with the temp sending unit on top and the oil pressure on the 90 (horizontal) . I have the fuel pump and ecm off and when I was turning the engine I did not get oil pressure. First question does the oil pressure unit need to be straight up and have the temp on the horizontal? I do not think there is room for the oil pressure sending unit to be in the vertical. Thanks

Orientation of the sensor does not matter. How long did you crank it?

Update I just tapped the cavity plate over the oil filter and same thing. I only cranked it each time for about 10 seconds. .

Just start it or use a primer on it. Cranking the starter is just hard on parts.

Check it with a mechincal gauge? If you have no pressure and it's had it at one time chances are the bypass in the oil pump is stuck open.

How many times did you crank it?

I recently started my Texas Speed LS3 after priming it with an home DIY primer taped into the oil galley at the front of the block on the driver's side. Even after priming with Joe Gibbs BR oil it took longer than a 10 second cranking to build oil pressure up to 40psi when I primed with the starter (after my initial priming). I had a mechanical gauge tapped into the area above the oil filter. After priming it fired right up and had 60+psi at idle on my Racepak dash.

(5) 10 sec bursts

I would try 10 more doing the 10 second crank, 30 second wait before doing anything extreme. This is a relatively common problem.
If you pull the plugs it will spin easier/faster.

Thanks Don I will try that

If you can't build oil pressure with it cranking for 20-30 seconds you need to check for a cut oil pickup tube o-ring and a stuck pressure relief valve in the pump and if it is stuck replace the pump.

Thanks for all your advice I got 60 psi during the start so I am good to go. I have a small oil leak where I tapped it on the cavity plate so I need to get another plate, any ideas? Electric fuel pressure gauge did not work but I can manage that. Thanks

Is this what you need:

I used that. Put a 90 degree fitting on it and you can clock the sensor anyway you want. When i tapped my block off plate and a ls1 block off plate i kept cracking them.

Blue print Engne that has been dyno'd? Just start it up! If it has no oil pressure, send it back. If they indeed ran it, it's fine and I would not try so hard to get pressure my other means

Pull the spark plugs and SPIN the BITCH UP! with the starter motor or build a primer and tap it into the front galley plug on the drivers side of the motor. Anyone recommending starting the motor when its exhibiting no oil pressure is a complete BUFFOON! Make darn sure you have oil pressure before powering up your motor.

One thing I have heard to do is jack up the back of the car pushing oil toward the pump.. it reportedly helps to get the oil pressure up

Mine took forever to prime. I pulled the plugs, disconnected the coils and removed the fuel pump relay and spun it over for about 15-20 seconds at a time. Took 4-5 times of doing that before I got pressure.

Since it had already been on the DYNO, Blueprint Engines said either take the plugs out like some of you have suggested or start it and see if the oil pressure comes up right away which it did.

Read the entire thread...it was not a fresh engine. It was ran before. It's a different story when the engine is on its first fire up.
