That's right, a Cordoba!

Hey everyone, new to Lateral G but not new to car building and racing. Looks like a cool place to draw a lot of inspiration and learn a bit about what other people are doing with their builds.

I've had my car about two years now, and the goal has been to create a car that looks and performs like the NASCAR type cars that went to Le Mans in the mid 70's, but on a very very tight budget. So keep that in mind (plus it is very much a work in progress) when you see some pictures of my car!

The entire drive train has been gone through already with a rebuild 360, 46RH overdrive trans, 8 3/4 rear end with posi and 4.56 gears. The interior is gutted with sheet metal door panels and two bucket seats. Next up is the front suspension that is going to get larger sway bar, larger torsion bars, new shocks, tubular upper control arms, and polyurethane k member bushings. The goal here is to build it the best I can without reinventing the wheel or buying a crazy expensive kit. Just going for bolt on performance here.

Anyways, I'll get a build thread going at some point, but for now it's nice to be here.

How it looks now.

Engine shot with air intakes removed to see more. (Inner wheel wells had just come out, so forgive the horrible firewall)

Welcome to LatG! Love the car! Is this a driver, or a track car?

Thanks!

It is a driver, but not my daily. The plan is for it to remain very streetable, but also right at home at the track.

Way to go trying something different. Brought back memories of my 1st car(1980 Cordoba). I assume parts and support will be hard to find. Good luck!

Welcome to Lat-G. Looks like you've got a good start on your car already, any idea what it weighs as it sits now?

I have a soft spot for those that do things the hard way and on a budget, keep up the good work.

That's awesome, and thanks for the compliment!

Last time I weighed it was before I removed the heater core, the inner fender wells and some little miscellaneous stuff. Believe it or not, it weighed in at 3878 as measured on Quantum corner scales. I figure we are just under 3800 now. The goal is to get down to 3500. Making aluminum bumper supports should get me most of the way there, lexan rear window will be next, and then rewiring the thing should save a lot too. :lmao:

Welcome to the site! I like the theme you're going for. Be sure to start a build thread on the car too.

Agreed. Love the dare to be different motif, I think cookie cutters are for baking cookies, not building hot rods, lol! ;)

Are you going to do the full numbers and all thing on the exterior or more of a pro touring visuals with Nascar underside?

Doing it all on a budget means you don't have to be afraid of rock ships and cone abrasions, and you don't have to spend the next week after the event cleaning and polishing. Boring! Let's get back to racing!

Keep us posted!...

I don't plan on doing any decals on the outside, but it has crossed my mind. It would be cool to make it a retro version of the circle track car I raced when I was younger.

It's going to get a cheap-o One Day paint job one of these days. Rock chips and scratches just add character. :D

Awesome build, I've always had a thing for these cars. It's always good to see more Mopars here.
