DCE EPAS Ultra System

On my in the build Pro-Touring car I am looking at using a DCE Motorsport Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) and ultra controller. Does anyone have experience with the system?

Pretty sweet. Have they quoted you a price ?

A company called EPS sells more hot rod oriented kits (no CAN interface for example) but it appears to be the same motor but a more robust control box.

Preston I have not nailed any supplier down to a buy price but the system is not cheap at around the $5k range hence my question before spending the big dollars. However the adjust-ability and control is the best I can find and I can analise all parameters/settings via my data logger on the Can bus. The other bonus is with 315 front tires it can handle 81ftlbs of torque. With adjust-ability on speed, input angle, revs, torque etc you can map in fast or slow corner variation and tie it in to chassis response. No more coolers,plumbing and belts is also a big bonus.

I don't doubt it is the most sophisticated option out there but guys are putting these systems together from used parts for $200 and new parts integrated kits are topping out at $1500 with pot controlled assist. I'm trying to decide between those two options myself.

I agree it would be nice to record steering angle via CAN, but most of those other steering programming parameters would definitely be overkill for me.

When I posted on this I was just beginning my research and I've been surprised at how well these systems seem to work. I have issues with stiction in my Woodward servo that is driving me crazy even after a full "loose" rebuild.

But I think I'd be perfectly happy with the basics, I have no idea even how I would want to program my steering to respond to all those variables !

BTW for those looking this company looks like the best option for new units. I talked to the guy today and he was real helpful. MOst of the other kits on the market are sourced from him anyway from what I can tell.

Preston no doubt its overkill for many projects but the pot adjustable sensitivity systems are not actually user friendly. For variable speed assist it is far better to have a simple map-able ecu control unit with assist based on wheel sensor speed input. Of course this option is not a run down the scrap yard and bolt it on solution.Any standalone system that works from a drivers perspective is bound to be more expensive than a system that just makes the steering light.
