Pulled the mold apart yesterday. Some minor touch up sanding to the gelcoat and its ready for some carbon! Now I need to order it so I can do some infusing next week.

Looks great AJ! Smoooooth....will reflect in the part!
Maybe you have already thought of this or have tested and it won't be a problem.....When we did glass off road car bumpers, we also broke the mold in the middle for release, like you did. However, we built a truss structure to keep the molds perfectly straight, i.e. didn't rely just on the flange to support the mold from flexing. Since you're going to bag it, I wonder if your mold might flex, even if just a little and your bumper wouldn't be dead straight?
My thought would be to bolt the mold together and if you can make it move even a little, I would clamp it down to something while it was perfectly straight and then laminate a truss structure to the mold. Of course the truss would have to also bolt together in the middle but it would triangulate the mold and it keep it from moving when you pull the vacuum.
Hope that is good advice and isn't redundant.

I've though about that already when I bolted it back together to check fitment. I don't know if I'll build a fixture to hold everything in place or just clamp it to the bench when I get ready to bag it. Yes it does flex otherwise. I have some left over steel from my frame build that I though about using to clamp it to.

So I made my first carbon fiber infuse part. It is one layer 2x2 then two layers of 12k plain weave. It's pretty strong, but flimsy so I won't be using it. The weave laid down almost perfect so I got that part figured out. I'm going to be laying up another one once I get the mold prepped and the carbon gets here. This time I'm adding a 2mm core and another layer of 12k to it to stiffen it up. As it is right now my iPhone 6 weighs more than this part.

I also chased a vacuum leak for a long time and never got it perfect, which caused some fixable problems in the outer layer. This second part I'm going to envelope the whole mold and that will take care of any leaks I had in the joint. Hopefully more updates on it in the next week or so with a perfect usable part.

Bumper 2.0 turned out much stronger. I used a high quality 12k fabric and a 2mm core material along with adding an additional layer of 12k. So it's 1 outer layer of 3k 2x2, 2 layers of 12k 1x1, 2mm honeycomb core, 1 layer of 12k 1x1. it eliminated a lot of the flimsy feel and made it a lot stronger. It has a few blems on the ends, but this is getting painted black anyways so I'm not worried about it. Now that I have my rear bumper done I'm going to move back to the tail lamp housings. In full carbon.

So I quit my job at the Cadillac dealer and started back at a Chevy dealer and I got clearance from the top of the food chain to work on my car in the shop. So progress on the car is back after about a year and a half mothballing. Saturday was the first time the cars been out of the trailer in all that time. I've been bringing some of my big tools to work throughout the week getting stuff ready.

So after weeks of thinking where do I start back since I have so much metal work do get done to finish grafting the C5 chassis to the '69 body I decided to first make it steer by hooking up the steering column, which was a quick job. Now that I had that important part handled I went to work in the back of the car. I just bought an english wheel and wanted to play with it so I figured the wheel tubs are the best place to start. I have the passenger side about 90%. I need to make a box cutout so I can get the rear upper control arm bolt out and a close out panel in the wheel side to match up to the C5 fuel tank close out. I also ran the back of the tub long down to the body line to seal off the bottom and give me another attachment point for the rear defuser.

With the passenger side mostly complete and not having a lot of time left in the day before the shop closed I got the driver side cut out, a flange bent and all of the shrinker/stretcher work done so it will take less time to finish up next time. I haven't decided how I want to attach the tubs to the frame yet so I didn't put a flange on it. I'm thinking I'll just weld it to the floor pan which will weld to the frame and that should all fit nice and be easy to seal up then coat with raptor liner.

So I've been messing with the most important part of my firewall this week here and there after work for a few. Since I'm running a C5 frame and pedal assembly the most logical step for me was to use the C5 firewall to locate all of the holes correctly. Seeing as the C5 firewall is fiberglass and I'm joining the steel frame to the steel body I decided to copy it into steel.

My first steps in this was I need a template, so I covered the whole fiberglass section in tape, marked lines and transferred that to poster board. I then had a buddy cut out in 18g sheet what ended up being a rather rough cut so it left my gaps a little bigger than I wanted, but thats ok as I could fill them with the mig.

I still have to weld the inside corners, and cut the holes out, but I'll save that for another slow work day.

Also, the top, bottom, and sides are all over sized to I can trim them down to fit the car.

Hoping to keep the progress rolling and get a lot done this summer. So far, so good. This past weekend I got the driver tub fit up. My welding helmet took a crap on me so I wasn't able to get both tube welded up and finished out like I had hoped. Since my welding was done for the day I moved into the trunk and got the side filler pieces fit up and the template for the center section done. didn't have a big enough piece of metal to get the center done so that will have to be next weekends project.

Since I was at kinda a stand still in the back of the car I started hacking the firewall apart to get my pedal bracket fit up. :superhack: I have a pretty good idea of what I'm going to do and think it will work out nicely.

Saturday I got to get more done on the car. It didn’t feel like much got done, but It was still progress and stuff that needed done.

Out back I got the tubs welded, ground, and metal finished so that took some time. After that was done I got the template done for the trunk floor done, but didn’t have a big enough piece of metal to get it done.

With the back at a stand still I moved to cutting out the firewall. After most of it was cut back I got the firewall starter piece lined up and made the first official firewall weld done. Since I need to know where to put the actual firewall I wend ahead put the engine in. Hopefully going to get the trunk floor done next Saturday.

It's great to see structure coming together on this car. That car-joining sheetmetal process is a mother, but it does provide a bit of perverse enjoyment in a puzzle-solving kind of way. I recall spending like four hours on a 4" x 5" inch chunk of sheet when I got near the end of my mess . . .

I found that using some tubes in the front and rear firewalls really helped to cheat the process along. The extra structure doesn't hurt, either. Keep up the good work!

Lots done Saturday. I have two small panels to build and then fitting the rear metal by the tail panel and all the rear tin work will be ready for some epoxy and then welding in.

I went with a bead layout that looked like stock first gen trunk pan after a lot of though and trying to figure out what designs I wanted to put in the metal. At the end though simple is best. I also made a support that goes on the bottom to add some strength to the metal. I also had to built end caps on the floor pan and cut the back parts of the tubs out so I can take the rear upper control arm bolt out. I think it finished off nicely. I'm undecided as to if I'm going to lizard skin everything then factory splatter paint it or just shoot it all with raptor liner and be done with it.

Doesn’t seem like I got much done today. I got the little filler panels made for the front of the tubs and will get them fit up better when I’m ready to weld it all together. I built fillers from the frame to tubs, but forgot to get pictures of that. I then set out to fix the rear gaps on the trunk pan. I cut off the old flange and started making a new one that fits tighter to the tail panel. Hard to see it in the pictures though.

We also had a C7 at the shop so I checked fitment of the 285’s. It’s a 20x10 rim and I think they look to big on the car, however they fit. Now I need to find some 325 or 335’s in an 18” or 19” rim to see how they fit.

I didn't feel like I got a lot done Saturday since it took longer than I hoped it would, but I got the tin work finished up on the trunk metal and its ready to get epoxied. After that it will be ready to weld in for good.

On the bottom side I got the support welded up and it really stiffened up the metal and took the rattle sound away when knocking on it. Now its more of just a thud.

Oh, I also threw a 335/25-20 under the back of the car. It will physically not fit because of the upper control arm. If I cut the quarters and moved it out then it would. I have to assemble the front end and see if a 315 on a 19x10 will clear. If I have to cut the front fenders to fit even a 295 then I'll have to also cut the rear to match.

Thank you, I was real happy how the english wheel stuff come out. I was even happier when they were really close to matching enough that no one will ever notice once its painted lol.

On the rear bumper, I modified the 3 stock middle mounts to fit the steel bumper I built as a mold buck. Once I find them in one of the many totes of parts I have my plan it to bolt them to the car then panel bond the bumper to them and then cover them in carbon so they are sandwiched in the bumper. After that stuff is done I'll decide if I need the side mounts or if its stiff enough to not need them.

Lots done Saturday. Seat montes are done, factory corvette floor cut and fit ready for finishing. The cut sections will be bonded back together and then they’ll all be sealed with 12k carbon.

AC mounted and fit the old firewall bracket fit the new chassis better than I thought it would. Lots of clearance everywhere for ducting and electronics.

I got started on the new firewall with a bunch of thinking and drilling out spot welds. I have a good plan in mind for it to tie everything together and keep the wipers out of the car and not totally have engineer something to make them work.

I forgot all about that thread, thank you. The car you did came out amazing. I think I'm going to end up pulling the trigger on the rear wide body as of right now I can only fit a 10" rim and a 295 and thats not very appealing to me. My trick is I've already built a bumper to the car and I have NACA ducts in the quarters that all line up with the doors. I may have to cheat it a lot.

One of the most difficult parts for me was maintaining a straight body line across the quarters, doors and fenders. A laser level helps. Keeping both sides the same takes some effort too. I did OK but learned a lot the hard way.

So get the doors on and lined up first, got it. I have a laser level already.

Question about the bulge part, do you think it would help to run the shrinker over the top flange of the quarter to help give it the outward curve?

Shrinking might help but it gives that wrinkly finish that can be hard to metal finish.

I had to make a pretty good sized pie cut along the body line from the door towards the wheel arch to get it to wrap around. Some creative metal shaping might help avoid that.

My metal shaping skills and tool set are pretty crude, looking forward to seeing how you do with your skills.

This week I got the driver floor bonded together and wrapped with 12k carbon fiber. I ran out of both epoxy and carbon so I wasn't able to get the rest of the floor panels done so I'll have to put that off until I get more.

Today though I got quite a bit done on the firewall. I finished cutting off the upper cowl to access the bottom and got the main middle section shaped, bead rolled and welded in. I'm undecided how I want to finish the passenger side of the firewall so I focused on the driver side and got most of that done. I feel that I'm more than likely going to have to cut off the fender mounts and make my own to get everything to look right and not just patched together. I also need to mount my wiper motor since I'll be able to retain stock style wiper transmission and not have to go after market making the firewall the way that I did. I think that I'm going to mount my ECM to the firewall behind the supercharger since there is a lot of room there and it will keep the engine bay clean with less wiring.

Anyways, heres some pictures since thats all thats really important lol.

Doesn't feel like I got a lot done Saturday since I cut more off the car then I welded back on, but overall it was quite a bit of progress. I started out with getting the bumper brackets bonded to the bumper and all of that lined up.

While the bumper was curing I went back to work with the firewall. I hammer and dollyed the upper wiper cowl straight again and got it clamped back on and lined up and the wiper bases in so the cowl would line up right. With that set I was able to start the middle section of the firewall. I hammer and dollyed a round curved edge to match the curve of the cowl and got the bottom side welded and metal finished. The hard part will be filling all the small pieces now. I think I'm going to build a jig and cut off the stock fender mounts so they don't look scabbed together and all flows well.

Since I've already made reference in this thread about it I started on the wide body fit up. I cut the front and rear flanges off and used my shrinker across the top and on both sides of the wheel arch. This was just a light shrink as I can always go more and I didn't have the car here when I did it. I took the quarter over to my trailer and laid it over. I'll get back on this once the firewall is done, but so far I've gained almost 2" with it just set on it. With it held tight and the calibrated eyeball it's right about 1 3/4" wider.

I was still recovering from a cold on Saturday so I didn't feel like breathing in welding fumes and grinder grid and I took a pause from the firewall. Still needing to get work done I did a quick and dirty rough fit check on the front wheels. I need to get my measurements solid so Boze Forged can build me some wheels for the car. The wheel I want is a 19x10 and It will work, but I think I'll be doing some mods to the fenders for tire clearance.

After that was done I got started on the driver rear wide body. I started with getting the rough fitment of the new quarter laid over the old one. Once I got that close I rough cut the old quarter off. After getting the new panel fit even closer I was able to cut the tub so I could make the extension. I gained 2" so I should be able to get a 335 under there now. Lots of shrinker work slowly and lots of fit checks.

For the new outer tub extension I made poster board patterns and bent flanges with my bead roller and you get a scrap looking piece of metal. The Harbor Freight shrinker is actually amazing and does just as good of job as my mittler shinker/stretcher. I worked the metal threw it with light pressure on a big bite a few passes and then a medium pressure on half the lip followed by a few more passes on a whole bite to remove the ripples from shrinking. The pictures show how much it changes with just a little bit of work.

I was pretty concerned with trying to do that much of a line and still be able to get the curve and fitment I was looking for. It came out much better than I expected so it was for sure worth trying.

It will all be spot welded like from the factory and then gone over with seam sealer to keep the water out.

Saturday was a lot of fitting and on off on off of the quarter to get the outer wheel tub fit right. I did start with a 19x10” wheel fit check and I’ll have plenty of room for 12” wheels though.

The outer tub took a long time to get right and then get the end panel fit. I had to work it in the English wheel and the shrinker to get to fit right. I got the welding done and most of the grinding. I really wish I had a hand held planishing hammer as the takes forever, but those are expensive. With the wide body I’ve gained a little over 2”. I think the front door jamb area and the gills are going to be the hardest to get right when it’s time to weld it on. The rest fits pretty good.

Not a great update as I had a family emergency to deal with Saturday so I had to pack it in about noonish. During the week I put together a hand held planshing hammer as a $3000 one is out of my budget for the few things I'll need it on. I have about $75 invested in this one.

Friday night since I was going to make a lot of noise I waited until most the shop cleared out and went to work banging out my wheel tub. I didn't notice the curve until I already started welding and by that point it was too late. I'll hammer and dolley that out of the passenger side once I get it cut out. Made more work for me, but it came out pretty good.

Worked more on the firewall Saturday. This time on the driver inner cowl. Lots of cutting old stuff out, fitting the new panel, some English wheeling, welding, and grinding. Still have a few small areas to finish up, but I’ll get to that in a few weeks when I get to work on it again. I think I’m going to put the driver tulip back to factory looking and put my wiper motor back there like I had it.

I finished off the day putting the dash in. I need to fit a 3 gallon dry sump tank somewhere and I’m looking at the area in the corvette frame in the passenger footwell. There is a toe board there that ties the frame to the inner frame. I’m thinking I can cut out the top section and build an access panel on the bottom for oil changes. I’ll have to move the HVAC module to the middle of the dash, but it looks like I’ll have the room to do it. There is about a 5” deep area where GM put the fuse block and BCM so that gives me a bit of room to work with too.

I’m going to have to widen dash about 2” to get to the door jamb and lengthen the side panels. My other option is to build out the door panels to meet up to the dash. I’ll figure it out when I get the door mounted back up.

I did cut out the section I've been thinking about for the oil tank and made a mock up tank though. I think it will work out very well there and now I just need the actual tank so I can move forward on the passenger side of the firewall. To make it work the HVAC has to move over. Since I have a Vette dash there is a ton of room to move it on top of the trans tunnel and I still have tons of room for electronics if I end up putting anything behind the dash.

Feeling like I got nothing done I built the console mount so that I could say I at least got something done.

EDIT: Not sure why some of the pictures turned upside down as they are right side up on my computer.

I'm at a point on the firewall that I need to order an $800 oil tank, so we're going to take a break from that and focus on cheaper projects that still need done lol. I moved back to the passenger wide body quarter. After I got the old panel rough cut off I got the new one stretched to match the driver side, a little over 2" more than I had to start with. After lots of on and off with more shrinking of the flanges both sides are the same distance from the dame datum point on the frame, the contour gauge also lines up on both sides from measured distance points. So its pretty much ready to be welded to the car now.

After getting the quarter where it needed to be I went to work on the outer wheel tub. My bead roller bent the flange with the shape the finial tub need to be and then lots of shrinking to make it actually look like the right shape. After some small adjustments I marked the cut line and cut the old tub apart. With the new outer panels fit up and the use of a few clecos to hold it in place it was time to tack it in and again, recheck the quarter fitment.

With the quarters in the right place I rough cut the bumper cutouts to see if the bumper was still going to fit. It actually fits better than it did before.

Checked some fitment on cluster and bezel. Pretty happy with the fitment and will look good when they get back from paint. I just got them back from paint and my buddies shop charged me $500 to matte clear it and it looks like garbage, so off to a different shop that has done other stuff for me.

Had a concern of some fitment so I threw a 335 under the back of the car and it looks small. It cleared everything I was worried about so in a few weeks I'll get back to work on the outer tubs to get them finished up.

Got the headers I built for the other suspension cut apart to the point that it would fit. Basically starting over and I still might just buy a set of C6 headers and bolt them up instead of burning up that time building a set of headers.

My core support showed up today and I was able to get the doors and the front end on to start lining up so I can build mounts for the core support. Need to put the hood on first though and get everything squared. Also started laying out some ideas for close out panels under the hood to hide the corvette frame. I think I like it so far and I'll make an access door to get to the fuses and Infinity Box system if I ever need to.

Saturday didn't get a ton done because of how much the quarter has to go on and off to check fit and such. I did build a mock up box of the rough size of my radiator, heat exchanger, and cooling fan set up. I need to add a condenser to it, but I think I'm ok in any case. I want it to be laid down so I can build an extractor hood and have it all ducked to keep as much air out of the engine bay as I can to prevent front end lift at speeds.

With the quick stack check done in the front I went back after the passenger outer wheel well. I got most of it built and only a few small parts left at the bottom for the tub and the quarter to make. The rest is ready to be fully welded and finished out. The goal for next weekend it to get the passenger side and driver side finished up and started on the welding of it all. Once thats all done I'll have it shot with epoxy and it will be ready to have the quarters welded on when I get to that step of the build. Right now its going to help me a lot later on in the build to be able to take them off to access stuff inside them when building brake ducts, fuel fill hose and such.

From the angles of the pictures with no quarter on you can really tell how much the outer edge curves and why I needed to bend the flange with a bead roller and not a straight finger brake.

Saturday I got the passenger outer tub almost done. A little more grinding on the front side and its done until the quarter is ready to be welded on. I'm going to leave them removable for the time being so I can get to the back side of the structure for things I have in the works later.

After I finished up the tub I started some rough mock up to get a visual of how things need to go for the new package tray/filler panel. I have a lot of room at the bottom so I can hide modules and fuse blocks behind the seats.

Kris Horton got the wide body mods and wheels finished up on the render as well. It doesn't looks it, but thats 2" wider than stock.

Last week parts started to roll in and even more parts were bought :G-Dub: SO we have a long update.

Lets tackle the parts list of whats here and on the way. There have been a few member on here reach out after reading my build and hooked me up with parts they decided not to use and help save me a bunch of money vs. buying new at full price or they got a deal and passed it on. Thats awesome that people still do that and support each other on here :grouphug:

For the parts lets start with the transmission. It's a low mile C7 Z06 TR6070 7 speed with the cooler pump. I wanted this because its 1 3/4" longer than the T56 that I have. I have 3.5" to make up from stretching the wheel base in the car to fit the Camaro platform and that took a big bite out of it.

Because I plan to make some power I know the C5 diff. is weak and I also wanted a diff. cooler. So I was able to locate a C6 Z06 rear diff. to handle power transfer duty.

I've always wanted the C6 ZR1 brakes. I had them on my '15 Z28 and liked them and it was cheaper to buy them used than new aftermarket stuff. I'm running ABS so I should be ok tracking them with the brake coolers I plan on making.

To get the ghosts of horsepower past out of the engine and flowing to the rear I picked up a set of Stainless Works 2" C6 Z06 headers from a member here. These and the trans were both guys that reached out here.

Parts that are on the way I have a 2006 C6 Z06 torque tube. The early C6 tubes were longer with the T56 and shortened up about 3/4" on the later C6 when they switched to the TR6060. The C6 TT and a C6 bell housing combined with the 7 speed bring me to 3.6" longer than the C5 driveline which is well within tolerance of the GM bolt holes.

I have the crank on order for the engine along with the ZL1 Camaro supercharger lid with a reinforced brick. Hoping to get the engine together so thats one less project to get done.

Now lets talk about the last part that showed up and progressed the firewall this past weekend. The 3 gallon dry sump tank. I wanted to put the tank in the tulip like Mark does, but the Vette frame takes up a lot of that area. So I moved it inboard some. It looks like I gave up a lot of foot well space, but you can see how much of the floor I hard to cut out. This is also the area GM put the fuse block and BCM so I actually lost no room at all. New firewall and the oil tank are mounted. I can now finish up the firewall on the passenger side and get the Vintage Air bulk head mounted too. I'm still trying to figure out were to put the breather. It might go where its pictured or on the other side. The plan is to make a cover to close out the tank area and help protect it from the header heat. I also still have plenty of room to mount the full size Vintage Air IV Magnum over the trans tunnel so my glove box will actually be full size.

Saturday was a busy day. Started out with finding out the ZR1 brakes don't fit the 19x10 79 offset test wheel I have. I found after googling that its common for them to not fit cheap knock off wheels so I'm waiting to hear back from Boze to see if they can help make it work.

With that buzz kill out of the way I got the roof skin from a 2019 Camaro cut down and the roof of the '69 cut out and the two lined up ready for finial fitment and welding. I was really surprised at how well they lined up without any mods or metal working.

With the roof on track I wanted to get back to the firewall so I can get it done. I got the breather tank and the HVAC bulkhead mounted so it's ready to focus on finishing out the metal fab. I cut out the old vent hole and made a new filler panel to line up better with the new frame and old body and wasn't all beat up. On the inside of that I made another panel to close out the interior of the car. Up top I used the english wheel to shape the curve panel so it wasn't a bunch of flat pieces welded thrown together. I'm pretty happy with how its coming along. The plan for the area is a removable tulip panel so I can get in and seal and paint it and possibly put something else in there. Out by the oil tank I want to build a close out panel to block the heat from the headers and dress up the engine bay some.

I work next Saturday so no progress for a few weeks sadly. My torque tube and rear cradle are supposed to be here soon, so I should have all of that to mock up next time I work on the car too.

This is a pretty big update as lots of parts came together for the first time and this is the first time the drive line has been put into the car. Lets start with the stuff I mess with during the week after work. I am running Anvil Phantom marker lamps. I'm not much for having the same thing as everyone else so I converted them to LED.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2019/09/30/led.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/3vK2d)
https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2019/09/30/led1.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/3v394)
https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2019/09/30/IMG_6559.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/3vuB3)

So with that out of the way lets get started on Saturdays projects as I had a lot of stuff to test fit. Back story on the large part of this is to make the C5 frame fit into a '69 Camaro I had to make the wheel base 3.5" longer on the Vette frame. That in turn made my torque tube 3.5" to short to fit into the new wheel base and I was going to have my tube made longer. Being I wasn't in a hurry for it I never got that done which worked out best for me. Knowing that the C6 torque tubes are a different length I started to research how long they were. I was also looking into how much longer the TR6060 is because the front pump in it is why the C6 torque tube is a different length as well as the wheel base being different (due to the auto 6 speed being longer was the main reason for that). I found that since early C6 cars came with the T56 and late came with the TR6060 that the early cars had a longer torque tube. The bell housing is also deeper because of the twin disk clutch in the ZR1. I found that some people were able to swap the 7 speed manual into their C5 and C6 cars and its roughly 1 3/4" longer than the T56. So after a lot of math and crunching numbers I was able to figure out that a 2006 C6 Z06 torque tube and bell housing, a C7 Z06 transmission, and a C6 Z06 rear diff. (output shaft is bigger on the Z06 trans than the standard and same with the rear diff.) all linked together came out to 3.61" longer than my C5 stuff. In theory it should fit.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2019/09/30/measurments.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/3vjHN)

Also to make this work I needed to swap the rear cradle because of how the transaxle mounted. Here you can see the difference in the bell housing height.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2019/09/30/frame.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/3vO2c)

So now the moment of truth came and everything fit like it was designed to from the factory. The shifter even lined right up in the factory location.

Ok lets get on with the firewall work. Seems the small parts take forever to fit up. I got the passenger side pretty much ready for grinding, metal finishing, and ready to weld the wiper cowl back on. I need to finish a few small parts on the driver side and get some epoxy shot in it before that happens though.

Ok so I was wrong about the weekend I had to work, its next weekend. So I was able to get some work done on the car Saturday. I started off by putting the seats and dash back in so I could see how it all fit. The ergonomics are great and they bolted right in. The C7 seats sit a little higher combined with the 1/2" taller seat floor mounts they still have enough clearance to safely fit a helmet. The passenger seat all the way back has enough room for someone 6'3" to sit in it comfortably and not be cramped. I like how the driver seat fits and the pedal placement works very well for me.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2019/10/21/seat3.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/B33l4)

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2019/10/21/seat1.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/Buvlw)

After getting the seats in I moved onto the wiper motor. I've been over thinking how to mount it for way to long. As it turns out simple is better in this case. As soon as I find my wiper arms I'll get the transmission link finished up and check one more task off my list. Before anyone asks, that is a 2002 Deville wiper motor and modified wiper transmission links. Yes it is what Detroit speed used on their early kits, and it works with pretty much every GM wiper switch with delay.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2019/10/21/wiper1.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/B3cLT)
https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2019/10/21/wiper.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/B3bX8)

Since I still had a little time in the day I started on the dash mounts. I got the driver corner finished up and started to weld it in place. I'll finish welding it when I get the dash out.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2019/10/21/dash.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/B3phE)
https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2019/10/21/dash1.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/B3zba)

After finishing up the wiper motor I've been playing with the idea of quarter vents to cool my trans and rear diff. while using the door vents for the brakes. I liked the C7 Z06 vents and made a paper template off a C7 to see if there was room. Since the paper lined up nicely I bought a vent off a wrecked C7 to see how the real vent lines would line up. Turns out that the C7 and the Camaro have the exact same body line, which kinda tells me that I have to put them in. Kris Horton saw my update in Instagram and added them to the render real quick. They look pretty sick on there so it looks like I have another project added to my plate. I plan on venting them out one of the rear defuser fins on each side.

Saturday I got back to work on the car. The wheels I've decides to run showed up and I mounted the rear tires as that's all I had. They are C7 Z06 20x12 and 19x10. They fit very well and aren't as bad looking in person size wise as the pictures make it look. I really didn't want that big of rims, but thats kinda what I had to work with and I knew they cleared the ZR1 brakes.

The front fender is for sure getting cut up. I was hoping to avoid that, but its gonna happen.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2019/11/04/touching.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/B2N8N)

The 15.5" brakes look killer in them though

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2019/11/04/brakes.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/B2hPG)

With the wheels fit checked I went back to the firewall thats been kicking my ass. Specifically the driver side trying to get it finished up. The small parts take the most time to fab and fit up as well as come up with a good layout that doesn't just looked hacked together. This is where I started the morning.

<a href="https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/B3cLT"><img src="https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2019/10/21/wiper1.md.jpg" alt="wiper1.md.jpg" border="0"></a>

And with a lot of english wheel and shrinker work I ended up with this.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2019/11/04/firewall.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/BpyID)

I wanted to build a close out panel to cover the wiper motor and tie the outer tulip to the firewall that bolts on. So I did and I added a bead rolled "X" like the original Camaro firewall had. Annnnd then I realized I forgot to pre stretch the metal for that deep of bead. Here you can see side by side how much pre stretching the metal with the english wheel helps.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2019/11/04/warped.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/B2S3U)
https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2019/11/04/streached.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/B2ZpP)

And here it is installed with the booster so you can see the curve matched the firewall.

Kris Horton also updated my render to include the extractor hood setup I've been planning on doing. This might change a little once I get the front end of the car mounted and see where everything lines up. Based off rough measurements this is really close though.

Saturday I wanted to get the firewall finished up. It didn't happen, but there isn't much more left to weld and grind. I got the outer tulip panel finished and the cover ready to bolt in place. I ran out of riv-nuts so I couldn't finish that part. I recently got the HammerFab riv-nut dimple dies and they take things to a new level by flush mounting them.

The wiper cowl is all thats left to finish welding. I got most of it done, but not all of it. I'm hoping to get it finished early next Saturday and still move onto something else. I built it to match the curve on the upper cowl panel then flare out at the ends to match up to the original firewall and fender mounts.

I've decided to go with a stock C7 Corvette radiator and condenser. I've done a lot of research on it and I feel this radiator combined with an extractor hood and possibly 1 or 2 sub radiators will work for me. They will be mounted at a pretty good angle and be fed from the Anvil carbon fiber lower valance and the center of the grille. The rest of the grille will be blocked off to keep air from getting into the engine bay.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2019/11/12/radiator1.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/BtmhR)

To cool things down when not in motion I've decided on a 2018 CTS-V cooling fan. Its the 850 watts and 19" PWM controlled by the ECM. As you can see its much bigger than my cooling stack. After trimming it to what I need I've figured out how to mount it and I'll work on building the top part of the shroud with some sheet metal and the english wheel.

I've also started on the vacuum pump bracket. I need to do some hammer and dolley work on it to make the bends a little more crisp, but its almost ready to weld and finish out.

Saturday I got a lot done. First the firewall is now done until I decide what I want to do with the passenger tulip by putting the supercharger reservoir there and get the engine out to finish grinding welds. So I'm checking it off my list for now.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2019/11/18/firewall.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/BIDlZ)

Then I moved onto the vacuum pump. I welded up the bracket and finished it out and got it mounted.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2019/11/18/vacuumpump.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/BI9YE)

With that out of the way I got the front end rough fit so that I could get the core support the correct height and squared to the body then make the mounts. I got them cut out and welded on and with that out of the way I'll finish them once I finish getting the radiator mounted so I can take it off the car. I forgot to get a picture, you can see it in the under hood shot with the radiator though.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2019/11/18/side.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/BIEF4)

For the radiator I'm still planning on the extractor hood. Even with that huge fan I had room to lay down and still be clear. I'll also finish those mounts when they are off the car and build a gusset to support the radiator. Ordered some bushings for the upper mounts, so I'm hoping to have them by the weekend to finish the radiator mounts. If they don't show up I'll skip to getting the dash mounts finished up.

Saturday it doesn't look like I got much done mainly because I had the dash in and out so many times and lots of trimming and hammer and dolley work. That said I actually got a lot done on the dash. The stock upper dash metal was cut down to give a lip to tuck the C6 dash under for a clean transition to the windshield and the C6 dash was trimmed down to the body curve. I built a new center mount and put some dimples in it to stiffen it up and shed some weight. I also plan on mounting my HVAC from the center mount. I had the HVAC module in for some measuring so once I build the box mount I'll be able to get it in the car as well.

Mount wise I still have to finish the passenger mount. I built 5 lower tabs that the slips between the upper body and the tabs to hold everything in place and not move around. I still need to finish both ends of the stock upper and get the VIN tag area squared away. Once wrapped in leather and painted I think it will all look really clean like it cam from the factory that way.

I was able to get back to work on the car Saturday after a few weekend off between work and family being in town. I picked up a LS9 supercharger because it fits my car better in terms of the accessory drive. It however will need a 1/2" adapter plate to fit the ZL1 lid to it so I had to check fitment. Clears the hood just fine, but its a 1/4" away from the passenger side firewall. I think I'll be ok as I'm running poly mounts.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2019/12/16/lidfirewall.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/BJvb7)

With that done I finished up the dash. First I finished up the passenger mount and then the upper dash metal fit and welded.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2019/12/16/dashmount.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/BJJVY)

After all of that I got the front end square, measured where to put the core support mounts and got the frame cut, rewelded, random holes fillled and then the front end all back on to double check with the radiator back in to make sure I'll still clear.

I was out of time and needed to clean up, but I have a Chevy Trax coolant reservoir that I wondered how it would fit into the build. It actually looks like that will be a good area for it so I might order a new one up. It would mount nicely to the inner fenders that I still have to build.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2019/12/16/coolant.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/BJ1Ri)

During the week I've been tinkering with how to mount the fan using the stock radiator mounts. I need a different piece of aluminum for the other side, but I think this will work out nicely.

Saturday I got back to working on the frame horns. I capped them both off and welded in a bushing to keep from crushing the rail when the core support is bolted on. They finished out nice and I left myself plenty of frame rail so I'm able to bolt on a tow hook, which I'm going to start pondering how I want it to work.

After getting the rails finished up I finished the dash to A pillar ends. The more I think about them the less happy I become and I think I'm going to redo them so the glass fits better in those areas. Anyways, on to the pics.

Saturday I decided to get started on the roof. This mod has been on my build plan for a long time to set it apart even more. The skin was from a '16+ Camaro and it lines up almost perfectly with the 50 year old body. I got it finial measured and all lined up and started cutting out the front and rear roof sections and went at tacking it in. Lots of cutting, tack welds, hammer and dolly work to get it to this point. I'm not even half way done with the welding and grinding. Once I get that finished up I have a few hours of planishing to do. It's a huge pain in the butt just like I though it was going to be, but I'm really happy with how it looks on the car.

I haven't even started on them yet. Still brain storming on how I want to cut the carbon fenders and mount them. I'm thinking panel bonding an aluminum 90* section to the fender with riv-nuts to attach to the rockers and tubes to run the bolts through so they aren't 5" long bolts.

More roof work on the Camaro Saturday. More welding, grinding, and hammer/dolly work. I'm almost done though, need to weld up the front after reshaping the corners.

The goal for next Saturday is to finish up the roof and move to finishing up the rear frame rails so I can get them all coated in epoxy and get the floors finial welded in. If I have time I want to try and start on the battery mount as well.

Saturday I decided to take a break from the roof. Its making me feel like I'm not getting much done on the car so I needed a change of pace to get some motivation back. Thats why I didn't bother with a update last week, because it was just the same welding, grinding, hammer/dolly work. Without a real game plan for the day (which isn't how I normally do things) I decided to start with getting the door latches done. Previously I had some late model GM latches that I was using. I have since changed my build plan and now use electric buttons to open the door and the C6 Corvette latches are the best solution for this in terms of serviceability and a proven design.

I started with a rough paper tracing and laid it over the striker slot and traced it to the metal. After modifying the cutout, drilling new mounting holes, and filling the old holes I made a better templet to transfer to the passenger side. That to was modified, new holes, and welded up the old holes.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2020/01/27/pass1.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/HgHqS)

I found that I had the wrong strikers, so I had to move onto something else. The C6 latches have emergency release levers in the even of power or latch failure. I mounted them the same way they are mounted in the C6.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2020/01/27/handle.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/HgNvc)

I've been wanting to get my electronics laid out so I could start to plan my wiring. I decided the left rear wheel well was the best place to mount my rear Infinity Box power cell. Lots of room thats not being used for anything else. I built the mount and welded it in.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2020/01/27/mount.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/HggwE)

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2020/01/27/mount2.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/HgczT)

With all of that done I figured I start to layout the transmission cooler. Since I'm running the TR6070 7 speed it has a built in cooler pump. I wanted to keep the cooler in the rear. I think it will work perfectly in this location and blend well into my defuser. I just need to build some real mounts for it now.

Saturday I decided I wanted to get my battery mounted. I decided to keep it in the right rear of the trunk and recessed into the floor like I had in V1 of this build. I built the battery tray after work a few months back and had been playing with different locations for it, but nothing appealed to me.

Since I haven't welded my quarters back on yet it gives me a ton of room to work. I set the tray where I wanted it, traced it out, then cut it out. I have it so the battery is parallel to the ground. Since I had already built the new floor and had all that bead rolled I had to hammer and dolly out a decent amount of the lines so I could redesign them to flow with the battery box and not look like it was an after though. I was pretty happy with how it came out.

To mount the battery hold down I used my Hammer Fab rivnut dimple dies and then installed 3/8" rivnuts. The only thing left to finish is cutting out a new wider section for the trunk drop because of the wide body quarters. I have it all traced out and need to run it through the band saw. Once thats done that will be one more project checked off the check list.

Saturday I finished up the passenger trunk drop extension to fit the wide body quarter. That was a semi quick thing to finish.

With that done the upper radiator mount bushings showed up last week so I was able to finish mounting the radiator. First I finished up the fan shroud though so get that knocked off my list. Then I made both upper frame mounts and finished them out before installing the rivnut and getting them welded to the frame.

With the radiator mounted I finished off the day by getting the new core support outline set. The plan is to build a carbon fiber duct that will bolt to the core support and direct air into the cooling stack. My current plan is to only have the main radiator, condenser, and oil cooler in this stack to make it as efficient as I can. The power steering cooler will possibly end up in there as well, but I want to try and put it else where first. The on each side of the car I want to split up the heat exchanger into two smaller units and duct them into the wheel wells along with the secondary radiator much like the new generation ZL1. By doing the Corvette frame swap I gained a ton of room where the original frame rails and inner fenders used to be.

Saturdays adventures with the car I taught myself how to use a shrinking disk. I made more progress with the disk in 15 min then I did with hours of hammer and dolly work. It also help a lot with some tin canning I had.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2020/02/24/shrinkdisk.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/Hjh5G)

I was able to get the high spots taken care of on the driver and passenger sides of the roof.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2020/02/24/roof1.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/HjXaP)

I also finished welding the front section of the roof. I still need to hammer and dolly that section and hopefully not much with the shrinking disk.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2020/02/24/roof2.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/HjuTk)

To gain access to the bottom I needed to cut the structure out from under the roof. Since I had it out and access I decided to put some dimples in it. every little bit of weight savings adds up.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2020/02/24/dimples.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/Hjzgm)

I finished up the day taking the front end apart so I can start working on the core support during the week after work. The radiator laid out looks killer exposed like this.

Maybe you're planning something but just a thought, not like I'm some sort of fabricator but would it be advantageous to close out the bottom leaving the side open with some sort of removable louvered panel or duct.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Tilted-Pair-of-11-5-Louvered-Panels-Hood-louvers-Bolt-on-style-Vent-Kit-/183635037710
This way heat could escape while directing fresh air to the coolers. Plus it could also protect the coolers from all the rubber that's gonna be tracked up there.
Keep up all the nice fabricating work, I'm amazed at your engineering craftsmanship.

I'm planning on ducting the coolers from vents on the top of the quarter panels. On the exhaust side of the cooler they will duct through my defuser and I was planning on fins similar to what you posted for the same reason, road debris. I also will be doing it in the front wheel wells on the exhaust side of the coolers that will duct into the wheel wells like the new ZL1 Camaro's do

Friday morning my buddies text me and wanted me to bring my car to a show they were hosting at Vintage Air. I told them they were killin me as I took it all apart last weekend lol. I thrashed on it after work Friday night for a few hours and then finished it up Saturday morning before heading to the show.

This is the most complete this car has ever been and its actually looking like the light at the end of the tunnel is coming. At the show I got tons of questions. Most of them were how and why. I even got a job offer from one of the shops that were there lol. Bummed I didn't have any tires yet for the front wheels so I had to roll my steelies. For its first car show ever I'm pretty happy with the outcome and looking forward to actually driving it to one someday.

Saturday my buddy Adam came by to help me line up the doors and front end so I can get started on the front lower fender mounts and wide body mods. It took us the better part of the day, but everything lines up very nicely. With the front lined up you can really see how much wider the rear wide body is than the front. Keep in mind that these Anvil fenders are already 1 3/4" wider than factory.

What I'm thinking is to make it in small sections and join them all together in the car so I don't have to fight gravity. It might be a little more time consuming though. My other option is expandable foam some how. Possibly foam blocks and get a rough shape then take it out and finish shaping it.

Saturday my racks were tied up so I used it more as an engineering kinda day to lay out some ideas and placement of things. With the fenders now lined up I double checked the alignment so I know my wheels are in the right place to be able to cut the fenders.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2020/03/30/align.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/HvjWY)

With that out of the way I built some mock up sized heat exchangers to see if they would fit where I want to put them. I'll have one 11x17 exchanger on each side of the car that will be ducked in the front and exhaust through the wheel wells. I also found a place to mount my front Infinity Box power cell.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2020/03/30/heatex.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/Hv6Ho)
https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2020/03/30/heatex1.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/HvYER)

I then moved into the dash to locate a spot for the Infinity Box inMotion cell that controls the windows and door latches. As I'm not using an air bag in the car it just so happen that the C6 dash passenger air bag bracket was a perfect spot for the module and I can access it by opening the glove box door all the way.

With that stuff handled I started to lay out some different hood vent options. This is two of the options. So far the 3 vent is the one I'm leaning towards and I have one more option using a 5th gen Camaro Vent (not pictured). Both 3 vent options will have the center rib removed from the front valance, hood, and wiper cowl. Kris Horton is working on updating my renders with the options so I can make a for sure decision.

I really dig this idea but from this angle it looks like the vents on the sides are forward of the center. If that's the case, it doesn't flow visually. Just my humble oppinion, which is worth nothing.

They are forward of the center vent. I already have holes cut for the anvil vents that I might not use and would need to cover with the new vents. The center vent is just behind the curve in the cowl on a flat spot.

Definitely the first option of those two options. It might help if the two rectangle vents weren't rectangle. Could you round the corners, or a corner? I'm just thinking it might look better if they complimented the center section better.

To me, the side vents are good without the center vent. Once you put the center in, the curves throw off the side. The C5/C6 T1 vents look good together. Something like the BMW E90/92 side vents are what I was trying to describe earlier.

Saturday got off to a late start because of rain and having to move cars around at work. So I did't get to what I wanted to do. Instead I got the fuel tank mounts trimmed to fit, then hammer and dollied the dents and scrapes out of them.

I'm nitpicking here, but the Gurney needs a negative curve on the lower edge, and some crown on the top edge.
Check out a factory equivalent part.

Auto design 101...Page 1..... never a straight line nor flat surface on an auto body. They make either themselves or surrounding surfaces look hollow.

From what I'm reading about the flap is its supposed to me 90* to the pressure side. If you're thinking about the ones on the Vette's I think they have a lot of design styling in them. The 5th gen Z28 was a flat piece of aluminum added to the spoiler.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2020/04/28/tub.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/Vn3sD)

Since thats the main part I had planned for the day I was able to also check fitment of the supercharger tank that I've been tinkering with. The fitment was good so I'll get the back welded up and get the fittings welded in and check one more item off the list.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2020/04/28/tank.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/VnhSH)

I also picked up a 5th gen hood vent to see how it will fit. I like the more forward option and it will clean the supercharger this way as well.

The rest of the afternoon I played with ideas for exhaust layout. I decided to run a Borla muffler even though its only 2.5" and I'm running 3" all the way back. The plan is for it to be quiet when normal driving and not drive me nuts with drone. Its an X style muffler and I'll run the exhaust in from each end and out the opposite side in a cross flow setup. I'm not to worried about it messing with the flow of thing as I'll also have vacuum actuated bypass valves. Since I went with this setup and with the trans cooler in the back it made me have to change from exhaust center under the tail lights to a center exhaust. It will still blend very well into the rear defuser.

I was wondering if you are worried about rolling the car around without the rear stub axles installed. I have seen the hub/bearing fall apart on other vehicles because of the lack of support the stub axles provide, even just rolling through the shop.

Keep up the great work, I have been following since the beginning.

I was concerned at first and I took the half shafts apart so I could put the stubs in, but I rolled it to see if they would loosen up (because I have also seen them come apart) and they aren't even loose. Its been 3 years like this so I'm thinking I'm good to go. I have another set of lower mile bearings that I plan on using when the car gets finial assembled so I can toss these in the scrap pile then.

Saturday I decided it was time to tackle the front fenders to get started on making them wider to clear the wheels. In order for that to happen I needed to get the lower fenders mounted. I decided to extent the outer rocker and start the flair with that. I bought a repop outer rocker to save myself some time making the bends hoping it would line up easier. To get started with everything I marked the fender and made my first cut into very expensive fenders.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2020/05/04/fender.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/VYM4n)

As you can tell from the picture below the repop rocker wasn't even close to the same size, bend angles, or dimensions as a stock rocker.

With the top part of the rocker the only thing remotely close to right I took the rocker sections and rolled them with a very flat wheel in the english wheel.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2020/05/04/rocker1.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/VYDVd)

After bending the correct dimensions into the rocker I ran it through the stretcher and again through the english wheel to give it a little curve by the door area and it was enough to flow with the body and gain me 1.5" of flair. And yes, I know the body line doesn't line up. I have some more trimming to do on the bottom of the fender, but its easier to remove then it is to add.

With the passenger side tacked mostly welded in I moved onto the driver side.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2020/05/04/driver.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/VYwF4)

With the new extensions mostly welded in I went back to the passenger side to start finishing it out. I started with the end cap so I could tie into the frame rail and make sure nothing moved. I left the top and bottom open as I need to install Rivnuts to mount the wheel well liner when I get that made and I need to weld in tubed so I can run bolts up into the fender. The back side of the fender will have aluminum L channel bonded to it on the back side.

I also checked fitment of the trans tunnel plate as well. I made it 3.5" longer because of the wheel base change and cut it out of 1/8" aluminum. This is more than likely going to be made out of carbon fiber as well.

Hi AJ. Wonder your thoughts. After getting my extended rockers and the inners completed... I sort of regret that capped the rocker in front of the tire such that the tire would kick debris towards metal that will be body color. I did think about this while I was building it but didn't worry about it because I had intended on clear wrapping the entire bottom of my car...that was until the PPG guy advised not to do that as it could cause the paint to fail (and the skim coat of filler), since it wouldn't be heat cured.

I plan on making my fender liners cover the ends. I'm also making side skirts so that will keep the paint damage down some too. I don't understand how a clear sticker will cause the paint to fail. GM has them on the trucks from the factory and tons of people put clear bras on their cars all the time with no problem. Maybe let the paint cure first, kinda like how you're not supposed to wax within the first 30 days.

Saturday I got the driver rocker capped off. I'm still waiting on some parts I ordered to finish things off before I can finish boxing in the extensions.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2020/05/11/rocker1.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/VdijT)

So with the stand still on the fenders I moved to the hood. I got everything measured out and then cut a big hole in the carbon fiber to start mounting the hood vent.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2020/05/11/hood2.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/VdJx3)

With that out of the way I decided to finish up the metal work on the roof. Some hammer and dolly work to get things banged into place then the shrinking disk to finish things off. I'm going to have my body guy check it out and if its acceptable then I'll weld the inner structure and roof supports back in.
https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2020/05/11/roof.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/Vdy8E)

With time to kill still I got the front and back of the spoiler marked to follow the stock spoiler curve and ready to cut out. My band saw blade broke so I'm gonna try and get a new one today.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2020/05/11/spoiler.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/VsZ9d)

With the little time I had left I started messing with the hood latch. I didn't buy the cheap knock off one that everyone is selling. I found a clean original Porsche latch on ebay pretty cheap.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2020/05/11/latch.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/Vdli5)

Then out in the sun loading up. The rocker being black is hard to get pictures of inside.

Saturday I wasn't planning on working on the car as I was supposed to work. Another guy asked me to swap weekends with him so I wasn't really prepared to get anything done on the car. I did have the wicker bill trimmed up and filed to shape and got that installed. Now it follows the body lines.

Saturday I got after it. I had the hood latch bracket cut out and hand filed to match the shape of the hood which has an offset design. Then I got it all lined up and the bracket bolted up. I needed to slightly modify the lower bracket to accept the hood cable, but it all works like it should now.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2020/06/02/hvac.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/VRHZH)

Then I got the inner roof structure welded back in.

Saturday I got after the lower fender mounts on the passenger side. I decided to use aluminum angle that will be panel bonded to the carbon fiber fenders. The rockers I drilled large holes so I could feed tubing through with thick washers welded on the end. this let me run allen headed bolts up from the bottom. After I got the passenger side done I started on the upper close out panel. It will be finished welded in and metal worked when I take the fenders off next. I'll try and get more pictures of how I did it on the driver side. I thought I took more then I did.

Thank you. There is a company that produces and sells a kit (where I got the idea from), but it’s $450 plus $30 shipping and they use the cheap $20 hood latch. I am thinking about making the wicker bill in carbon and making a few of them to sell a some carbon tail lamp housings I’ve been working on.

Not much of an update, lacking some motivation to get stuff done and lacking some parts to give me motivation. I did get started on the fuel filler though. I got the area above the tank cut out to make the fill connection. This will be made into a bolt together cover once I have the pipe built. In order to check for enough drop I had to weld the driver inner wheel well in place. I had to finish fitting it a little bit before it was 100% ready to weld in. After that I located a place to put the filler cap. Not where I wanted to put it, but because of how the tank is I was really limited and I didn't want to put it on the body. With that kinda laid out I built a trunk support now that the wheel well is in the correct location.

Thank you.

Saturday I still wasn't very motivated to do anything on the car, but it needs done so I got some stuff done. I got some more riv-nuts so I was able to get those installed. I relaly like the Hammer fab dimple dies, they make for a really clean install. First up was finishing the HVAC mount and getting those riv-nuts installed. Its pretty solid with 3 mounting points. Then I added 3 to each rocker extension so I can mount the inner fenders once I get to that stage.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2020/07/06/rocker1.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/chI6w)

Then I moved onto the rear bumper. I had 2 of the mounts done and needed to finish up the 3rd. I got it finished up and then did some adjusting to the drive side mount and got everything panel bonded together.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2020/07/06/bumper.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/ch6CD)

With the bumper drying and having the panel bond already out I got the mounting tabs done for the third brake lamp and bonded to the spoiler. Pretty happy with the fitment and I'll be able to wet sand the brake lamp to finial fit the spoiler and then finish it off with a smoked candy tint to help blend it in and not stand out.

Saturday I put the washers I cut on the spoiler and got the wicker bill bolted on. I only put two on for now, but I have 7 mounting bolts to spread out the load the air will put on it.

I also made the switch from the ZL1 lid to the LS9 lid so I don't need to run the adapter to make it fit the LS9 blower. That spacer was a 1/2" thick and put me within a 1/4" of the firewall.

I also picked up a ECM and mount last week so I started wiring after I got it mounted. I started with the pigtails I had already made for the knock sensors, trans temp, speed, throttle body, coolant temp, and O2 sensors. Then I went to work stabbing out the injector control circuits, coil control circuits, MAP, MAF, supercharger pressure, and a few others I'm forgetting. Once I get the rest of the sensors, injectors, and connector ends ordered I'll be able to finish up the harness and get it taped up. I ordered a heat shrink label printer, but it didn't make it in time, but should be here this week to play with.

Not a big update since wiring takes a lot of time and doesn't look like a bunch gets done. I have most of the wiring stabbed into the ECM now, just a few more to go once that color wire gets here. Since I changed plans from the LS7 to a supercharged engine I don't have all of the right connectors, so I need to get those ordered as well then I can finish the engine harness. Need to locate a place for a fuse block so I know what direction to run the power wires.

I picked up the Dymo 5200 printer as well to help keep things organized and clean. Its much better then tape tags with sharpie that get stuck together.

Since I'm doing wiring and its not that exciting I skipped posting last week. I want to get my wiring laid out now so I can build mounting brackets and such that way I'm not hopefully cutting holes or welding stuff once the car is painted. Once everything is in its place it will get taped in factory style abrasion felt tape clean and out of the way.

Lets start with the most boring, I did some more engine wiring. I have power wires roughed out to where I'm going to put the fuse block and I have one bank of coils done. I'm missing a color wire for the passenger bank before I can finish that side up (also a good reason to start my wiring now, I'll see what I'm missing).

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2020/08/10/coil.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/cs2C8)
https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2020/08/10/gound.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/csght)

I started the body side of the Infinity Box install by mounting the master cell, the InMotion cell (controls windows and door latches) and the rear power cell and getting the harness run in the general direction the wires need to go.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2020/08/10/master.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/csrf4)
https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2020/08/10/motion.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/csEgS)

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2020/08/10/dash.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/csVLa)

Then I started with the sub assemblies such as separating the master module inputs to where they should go. The power window switches mount on the center console so I have a main harness connector and then the switch harness so everything is easy to service should I need to take it apart.

The trunk harness is also roughed out and the heat shrink label maker makes things easy to know what does what when I get to the finial wiring.

Also part of the wiring is the Vapor Works controllers. It takes a min to figure out what goes where with this system, but its much simpler then it seems.

Ok so to get everyone up to speed quick fast I quit my job at Chevy in San Antonio and moved to The Woodlands and went back to Cadillac which is part of why there haven't been much of an update. The only thing that sucks is the shop is 8-3 instead of 8-5 so I lose some time to be able to work on the car. Better then no progress though. I've also been wiring and thats kinda hard to show progress on since its adding a circuit here and there, not that exciting.

So lets start at the last update. To make my harness as much as one bundle as factory would be I went ahead and ran the door speaker wires and put a connector at the console so if I needed to remove stuff I don't have to completely take the car apart.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2020/09/08/terminals.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/cRX2D)
https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2020/09/08/connector2.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/cJCN5)

Then I moved onto the fuse blocks and getting them mounted. The interior block I mounted where the C6 keyfob pocket used to be since its useless oin my car. The underhood fuse block I used a block from a 2000 Astro van. Its the same block that GM uses is their crate engine harness.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2020/09/08/dashblock.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/cJPiE)

One of the guys on here built me a vacuum pump control module and I mounted that inside the car after wiring it up.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2020/09/08/module2.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/cJyie)

Then it was just some odds and ends stuff like adding a third brake lamp flasher for extra safety, the ignition switch connector, and finishing up the power window switch harness.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2020/09/08/flasher.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/cJ42Z)

After that I moved onto wiring the under hood fuse block with as much as I already had from the ECM and misc. sensors. The nice thing about working at a dealer is we normally have all the right terminals in stock so I don't have to order them or scab cut wires together.

https://i.hmjimg.com/images/2020/09/08/flasher.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/cJ42Z)

Which brings me to this past weekend. I mounted the HVAC Dakota digital controller and harness, started wiring the Infinity Box inDash unit and more Master cell inputs like the brake and clutch. Also again, nice to have access to the right terminals to keep as much OEM as possible.

Good to see an update, I was wondering about it.

BTW, I worked at Cadillac as a line tech for a lot of years. Like you said connectors that would be hard to find elsewhere are usually on hand.

Just as an off-topic aside, have you noticed how young the Cadillac factory reps/executives are these days? The guy responsible for all electronics development looked like a 20-something. :confused59:

Yes and most have never worked on a car before lol.Cadillac wen through a re identify kinda thing a few years back to aim at a younger generation which is part of why we have numbers in the car names now (CT5, CT6, ect.) and gave the brand a more sport luxury feel. That was helped by getting younger people in the company.

Been a min since I updated this. Basically more wiring happened then I didn't feel like working on the car for a bit, some other random things instead and a trip out of state for a wedding. I decided to take a break from wiring because I'm tired of it and I need some more parts and to fab some more mounts before I can go any farther with it. Lets skip to the fun stuff now.

I wasn't super excited with the Borla muffler. I wanted a real 3" duel in and out X pipe muffler. The problem was the one I wanted that would work for my setup only came in a kit Holley sells for 6th gen Camaros. Luck would have it that a buddy of mine got a job with them and was able to get one for me. The plan here is in on one half the muffler with a vacuum cut out that will me module controlled like Camaros and Vettes are for a mild to wild tune ability.

https://j.hmjimg.com/2020/11/13/muffler.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/gIHY5)

So with that checked out I went to the front of the car to slice up some expensive carbon fiber. I need more room up front to fit the tires with ZR1 brakes and the vette suspension. I gained enough room I hope. I need to find tires to check the fitment. Planning on getting this side done before moving onto the driver side.

OK so here are some updates on whats going on with the car since its been a while. While I was working on it the last time I learned that I wasn't actually aloud to be doing so as its against company policy and my manager was misinformed when she said it was cool (because I asked before I even came to work here). So I haven't been able to work on the car in about a month now. What I was working on last was the splitter and the wide body front fenders. Here are the pics so far. I'm not happy with the splitter as its 7" off the ground at ride height. I think I'm going to build a taller spoiler and drop it down 2" more.

With not being able to get the car into the shop I have to find other ways to get things done and keep some kind of progress going. I started with the transmission tunnel plate. I went with 6 layers on 11oz carbon and a 2mm core in a wet lay up then vacuum bagged it. After trimming to the right size you can see how much stiffer it is from the 1/8" aluminum plate. I saved 2lbs with this as well.

https://j.hmjimg.com/2020/12/18/stiff.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/glwBc)

Even with 12" of over hang the carbon is still stiffer then the aluminum
https://j.hmjimg.com/2020/12/18/stiff2.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/glEPn)

In the days off that I have nothing to do I started working on my trailer. Full clay bar and polishing. Cleans up nice for never have even washed this thing since I got it in 2016.

I just happened to have my 355 on a stand in my bay. I said F it and started working on my engine. My advisor was pissed! It all worked out as they reassigned the short to somebody else. HA

I had to work Saturday so I didn't get to work on the car. During the week though I got the wicker bill rough cut, hand filed, and mocked up on the car. I'm thinking about making this out of carbon fiber as well and selling some to recoup car part funds.

They fit ok. They need work by the windshield and door to fit better. Around the grille and lower valance fit pretty well.

Working on the carbon wicker bills already. Made a test panel to see how well it worked and should have a few ready in February.

So we're back with work on the Camaro. Well, except this weekend because it was too cold in the shop. The new shop I'm working for is D Built Hotrods. Give us a follow on Facebook or Instagram. Dbuilt.hotrods on Insta and I think its the same on Facebook. CamaroAJ is my personal one where I post the car up.

Anyways I got the car racked up and to work. Last time I worked on the car I made temp brackets because I didn't have any steel to make solid enough brackets to hold things where they needed to be.

https://j.hmjimg.com/2021/02/14/lift.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/pxd3H)

With the new brackets made the wheel clears at full lock at ride height. I still have offset upper control arm bushings to install to move the wheel in and get a bit more clearance. Then I use zip screws to hold everything together and sanded the fender to get everything bonded back together.

https://j.hmjimg.com/2021/02/14/fender3.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/pxjki)

With the passenger fender ready to bond I test fit the carbon fiber trans tunnel plate that I made and it fit perfectly. Then I pulled the chassis harness out and got it all zip tied up and put away until I'm ready for some more wiring now that I have most of it roughed in.

Long overdue post. Sorry to neglect the updates, but I promise I've been busy on the car. I'll start with the "list". I was feeling overwhelmed by the amount of stuff I have to do still and made a list of things just off the top of my head that needed to be done so I can focus on a task, well try to anyways until I get to a point I need parts or I'm bored with it for the time being.

https://j.hmjimg.com/2021/05/27/IMG_1688.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/2WXSG)

Next lets tackle the little tasks I've been working on. Anvil stepped up to help me with my project so I was able to mount my mirrors finally. So big thank you to them for sure. I had to do a little sanding to get the trim rings to fit like they should since these are older mirrors before the rings were even a though. After that they were bonded in as well as the base plate using 3M panel bond.

One of my smaller projects has been working on bucks for the tail lamp molds as I plan on making them out of carbon fiber. I don't spend much time on them, just every so often mess with them for a few minuets.

https://j.hmjimg.com/2021/05/27/IMG_2030.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/2PqDp)

https://j.hmjimg.com/2021/05/27/IMG_2088.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/2q7Ze)

I also started mounting the supercharger cooler, oil cooler, and power steering cooler. I was really happy with their location, but I might end up moving the power steering cooler. As I had some scrap carbon fiber pieces laying around I used them as part of the cooler mounting brackets.

The engine made its way to the machine shop so I had access to the engine bay again. I decided to move my ECM into the car because of a couple other changes I have planned. That gave me room to cut the hole for the grommet I'm using for the pass through. And before you ask, I don't remember what car I pulled it out of. There is no part number on it and it just says Delphi on it. It was one of the many chassis harnesses I replaced at the dealer throughout the years. I also mounted the positive battery cable bulkhead while I was there and did some weld clean up.

https://j.hmjimg.com/2021/05/27/IMG_2452.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/2PwPG)https://j.hmjimg.com/2021/05/27/IMG_2459.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/2PFxK)

I don't like the idea of all the water getting into my engine bay when I wash the car or it rains, so I did some arts and crafts and made a fiberglass rain tray thats removable with a few nuts on the 5th gen hood vent.

I've often wondered about the volume of water & its impact under-hood for all the cars w/the current trend/style of hood vents. Seems it would make keeping a clean engine bay almost impossible.

Thanks guys!

Time for part 2.

Some small stuff I forgot in the last post. The drip rail delete I've started to fully weld. The "body guy" that helped me years ago was wrong on how they should be done so I'm fixing that before it becomes a problem down the road. I metal worked the tubs and got them ready for epoxy and I welded in the edge of the trunk drop to match the wider quarter panel like the other side.

A semi big project I wanted to do was a hood rib delete because of the 5th gen Camaro hood vent. Doing so also required the front valance also be deleted. I needed to do this in stages so that the hood maintained it shape. I supported with clear plexi under the cut out places and laid fresh carbon in a wet layup like you would do with fiberglass and then put a overlapping piece top and bottom to add strength to the joint.

Getting that done I was able to bond the hood vents in. On the side vents after bonding them in I modified the back part so they sat smooth with the hood with some minor fiberglass work. That pretty much wraps up my hood, so it it now ready for body work and paint when I get to that point.

The front lower spoiler is a work in progress. I dabble here and there with it when I'm doing other carbon fiber work. I needed it to be about 3/4" taller, so with pretty much everything else I have from Anvil, I cut it up.

I have been wanting to have a brake cooler duct and another duct to run to the rear for the trans and diff. coolers. My original plan was a set of C7 quarter ducts, but I wasn't able to get the lines right without reall changing the Camaro body lines and I really didn't want to do that. So plan B was to modify the NACA duct in the door/quarter to do both. The wheel well side will duct around and into the brakes kinda like a C6 Corvette did, just with better ducting. The top of the duct will go over the wheel well and through the trunk drop to the diff. cooler on the passenger side. I still need to build the driver side, but it will cooler the trans cooler.

Something that has bothered me since the day I welded then in was the finger pockets for the door handles. I made the pockets in a flat piece and then welded in a flat section into a door that is curved. Because there is some support structor in the door no matter what I did I was never able to correct the metal and get the shape it needed to be. So I cut them out and made new panels with the english wheel to add the needed curve.

https://j.hmjimg.com/2021/05/27/IMG_2539.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/2PDj8)

That brings up to todays update. After a few different designs for the finger pocket for the door handles I just wasn't happy with the shapes. So instead of wasting even more time on them I decided to go with C6 door handles. I made pockets for them to go in the door and then welded them in before metal working them out. Ignore the door edge, it will get finished up when the quarters get welded back on and I can adjust the gaps.

Ok lets get up to speed on the last few weeks. I finished up the driver side brake and trans cooler duct.

The engine came back from the machine shop and I'm ready to assemble it once I get a few more bolts and bearings ordered. I still don't know what cam I want to go with either. I started working on the supercharger cover by grinding down the Corvette letters and back filing them with panel bond. On the center console I stared to fiberglass the gap until I ran out of glass. The cover and console are coming along nicely tho.

Most importantly I finally got some epoxy shot on the inner structure and have started the final fitment and welding of the quarters. It took a lot longer then I figured it would to get everything fit and mostly welded up. I still have more welding to do across the top and back before I can grind the welds and start the hammer and dolly process. Big step forward to having a whole car again tho.

See if this works. I tried to upload the video, but doing message board stuff from a phone sucks.

Ok guys, I kinda slack with the updated on the car on the message boards. Its just kinda a hassle since I don't have the internet and I have to pair to my phone and transfer all the pics to the computer, resize, and convert them to a format I can upload. Anyways I've been busy so lets hop in.

Picking up where I left off last time I got the car stripped down with the craptastic epoxy that the blaster applied that was flaking off and then into sealer. Also the bare metal was sealed to stop the surface rust.

With that out of the way I was able to get the driver quarter metal finished by pick and file and with the stud gun on areas with no back access.

With the quarters in place I needed to finish up retucking the bumper. Since I did the wide body on the car I needed to modify the pockets to be a little deeper and trim the bumper ends accordingly. I didn't get great pictures when I did the driver side so I'll run down the passenger side. With the bumper bolted in place I tapped off the metal around to make a template. Transferring that to some sheet metal I got everything cut out and clamped into place before welding and metal finishing everything.

Now with the bumper squared away I moved onto the door handles. I'm running C6 style release buttons so I needed a pocket to get my fingers into. Starting with a shape the same angle as the stock gills and not the NACA duct I made a tape pattern to get me in the ball park. It took some work and time, but I like how they came out.

In between all of this work I've been doing some body work on the hood, upper valance and roof getting it pretty close so when its ready for a real body guy it won't be too far off and should help move things along quicker from paint jail. For not being a body guy I'm really happy with how it came out so far.

That brings us to this weekend. I've been going back and forth on where to put my fuel filler since the Vette tanks are kinda high behind the driver seat. I didn't want to have an external filler, but thats what worked the best for me. I had an EMI filler, but I wanted a locking one so I ordered the RideTech unit. Safe to call it a unit as its huge and heavy. On the scale it was over a pound and twice as much as the EMI that I ended up using, because of the weight and size. Mostly the weight lol. With a modification to my bead roller a few years ago I made a perfect circle to recess the filler cap. I cut that up from version 1.0 and welded it into the driver quarter. And as with the rest of the metal if was pick and filed to fix the warping.

I also received my LED headlamps, so I got those test fit then boxed back up.

I also found a place for my ABS module and BPMV. I made a bracket to mount the modified stock bracket to and then mounted the whole assembly behind the passenger fender in the wasted space.

Ok aside from all that great work you've done your decision on the fuel filler door is killer.I hate fuelling up my car from the stock location. That just looks mean.Really enjoyed seeing this build coming along. That carbon fibre in the roof is also killer...cheers

Sorry for the lack of updates. Ok this is going to be long since its been a while since I've updated this. I'm just gonna touch on everything kinda quick since the pics are worth a thousand words.

Looks like last update I had mounted the ABS. After that I built a washer reservoir and used it to mount the supercharger cooler pump.

I fabricated a fuel fill pipe to connect the filler to the tank thats behind the drivers seat.

Then I moved onto the frame work for the rear package tray delete panel/waterfall, sanded everything down and shot it in black epoxy.

Which led to the waterfall being fabricated out of .040 aluminum, The plan is for this to be carped on the lower section and leather on the upper section with a 12" sub in the middle. Also a start of the rear side panels.

Some body and paint work on the firewall to get that moving in the right direction as well as the supercharger lid and cover. I'm a big fan of this red and black color combo that will be against a matte black engine bay and the metallic blue the car will be.

I've been messing with the wider body up front to clear the wheels. I used foam as a base then fiberglass to get a little more solid and shaped it with body filler. After all this is final I'll prime and paint it, wet sand, then buff to a high shine so I can make a mold off it then make a carbon fiber panel to replace everything with.

I've also finished up my C6 door latch swap and trimmed the under side of the hood so I could get to the secondary latch when I pop the hood. That will all be repaired with carbon and body worked so it looks like it came that way.

I mounted up the heat exchanger, oil cooler, and power steering cooler. Unless I had a stock one side by side you'd never be able to tell all the work I did on the header panel support to keep it looking factory while clearing the tilted forward radiator, mounting the power steering cooler to it, and raising up the mount to fit the Porsche hood latch. Oh, and dimple die holes for some weight savings.

Some modern magic with this rev match module so I don't have to heel/toe all the time when down shifting. Perfect spot in the center console for it and out of site.

The last of the update brings us to some grille block off panels. Since the goal is to keep as much needless air as I can from going into the engine bay I made up these block off panels for the grille. I made them out of .040 aluminum to the size of the heat exchanger and oil cooler and duct them to the coolers. The center I left wide enough to blow onto the power steering cooler.
