OEM C7 Brakes

Hey Guys. Any interest in running the latest OEM C7 Corvette Brake Packages. ?

My question is specifically directed towards folks currently utilizing the C5 or C6 based suspensions such as DSE, Roadster Shop, Art Morrison, etc.

Basically any aftermarket suspension currently running the C5/6 Upright (Steering Knuckle/Spindle).

To date I have not seen anyone come up with a solution for doing so. Any thoughts, input, suggestions??

Personally I think the C7 Corvette OEM Brake Packages are a super value. I believe the complete Z51 package runs around $1300. Not to shabby considering what you would need to spend in the aftermarket to match/exceed this level of performance.

And you may as well outfit your rear to accommodate the C7 brakes AND match the front hub system to round out the most modern OEM technology. (similar to these pics below but would have C7 brakes). :poke:

First off, loving your 67 Nova project. I have been a life long addict of the first gens myself. May have to look into that trans tunnel for mine.

Ok, back to your comments :lol:

Really no magic behind the adaptation (ok, maybe a little), just not as simple as a nice lil' bracket. To make this possible, I start with a brand spankin' new C7 Upright, and perform a few very minor machining operations. Once done, this MUCH beefier C7 upright will be ready to go. Same geometry as before, same steering arm as before, same wheel mount surface as before, only now you will have a "C7" DSE front clip and running a C7 hub and brake package :thumbsup:


For those that are not familiar. The C7 Corvette Upright is on the left, and the popular C5/6 is the one on the right. The C7 is one beautiful piece!

I am about to run a set just for pictures, and to verify pricing, but first wanted to gauge interest, as it is always less to run multiple sets vs onezy twozies. If I can get enough interested parties soon, I would be offering cost for the first 5 sets.

Pricing??? A pair of these OEM C7 uprights run around $225. Add in some machine time and some initial fixture costs and I am going to say around $500 for the pair all said and done. And of course go up a bit after these first initial sets for a little profit.

So I guess one way to look at it is, for the same price (or less) than many of the aftermarket Big Brake Kits, you have the option to run these new C7 Uprights and C7 Z51 brake package....

Very cool... I have a "Stielow" rear housing with C5/6 mounting surface as well. I'm not sure it would would work out with the C7 rear brakes (doubtful). I already have quite a bit invested in the SKF bearings etc. (had I known the C7 bearings were really the way to go...but hindset)

I like the idea of the lower cost brake options. I may end up running C6 Z06 stuff to start with.

This is certainly a great option.

No you are right, the Stielow version that you have will not work with the latest C7 brake set-up. It is specific to C5/6. Many little differences....

As for the SKF hubs that you have invested in, they are as good as they get as far as Corvette style hubs go. I utilize the C7 SKF hubs because they are identical in strength to the units you have, but the cost is much less. They are a direct replacement for the ones you have except the electronics differ IF you were planning on running ABS. As you probably know, you have a solid set-up there either way!

I really like the ZO6 stuff as well. VERY cost effective for what you get. Good luck with your project. I am a fan of your work and will be watching!

Thanks! I'm just a hobbyist, but I have collected some tools and learned a few things over the years. My motto is - -I know what good work looks like, I just keep trying until I achieve it! That's the fun part for me, always learning/trying new things and getting better each time.

This is a pretty cool setup. The issue with how long it takes me to build stuff is that by the time I get done there is always cooler/better stuff that has come out! ;)
