Amongst a busy shop one of the new builds we've got going is this ballistic '67 Camaro! This is a father and son team, Dave and Mason out of Texas, that picked up a '67 Camaro to upgrade a little. Well as anything goes, one thing led to another and the car was brought here instead and it has all snowballed into Project Sicario, with an emphasis on the SIC part. If you're not sure what Sicario means, it's Spanish for Hitman. When the dust settles and this bad dude rolls out of the shop it'll be packing some heavy heat and I'm pretty sure he's got some other Ponies on the list to take out at the track.

As with any good project hashing out the details through the rendering process nailed the design down. Note the smoothed lines, 69 style front valance, and the late model Z28 louvers. The gray hood insert is timeless and adds that perfect design element that will emphasize the louvers. Over all simple and smooth and very black.

Not to get off the beaten path, but Sicario was a dope movie. Benecio Del Toro was awesome. Now, with that in mind, if this car turns out just as gangster as the movie, I know it'll be sick.

Love it! Especially the front lights. Adding the 69 valence and keeping the turn signals in the grill just looks good to me. I've always thought the 69 looked better with driving lights in the valence instead of the turn signals. :peepwall:

I for one am super excited to see this build! Can't wait to see it! I especially can't wait to see the Z28 louvers, I've seen the late model ZL1 hood done (" Lou's Change)and have been waiting to see someone do the Z28! Super excite!

This is what Sicario started out as. It was a fairly nice mild build done up by the original owner. Dave bought it from her several years ago and during that time put a fresh drive train in it. That's all fine and dandy but apparently the SBC and suspension just wasn't cutting it. So how does a new Speedtech ExtReme suspension and a 700+ hp 427 LS/T56 combo sound? Well, more on that later...

Kindigit flush door handles. There are fairly simple in design but they'll look plenty smooth when they're worked in, and no worries about dropping power and then not being able to get into the car.

First pics of the paint- (pre cut and buff), along with our "keep yer hands off" guard dog, lol! We like to lay it down in several layers so when we wet sand and buff we have a lot of material to work with to achieve that end mirror finish.

Idle quality? What's that? ;) Surprisingly the car is incredibly streetable. Good luck trying that with an N/A small block, and this coming from a dedicated SBC guy. Sometimes I'd like to slap people that dog on LS engines. :smiley_smack:

Backing up a little, we'll turn some attention to strengthening the under side of Sicario. First step was to install our new ExtReme crossmember and frame connectors. Superior to other kits these completely weld into the floor and connect the braces for both the front and rear frames, plus they tie into an equally stout crossmember that ties the rockers together. This design not only controls body twist front to back but also strengthens the car side to side. This particular kit is for use with our Torque Arm rear suspension, incorporating a mount for the front TA pin bushing. They do require a little more work than average frame connectors to install, including removing and later replacing the seat mounts plus doing a little surgery to have access to the rear frame bracing structure. In all however, the extra work is definitely worth the additional end result in strengthening the car. Follow along with some pics of the install...

For this car nothing less than our ExtReme subframe and suspension would do. We originally were going with a satin look on the pullies and underhood accessories but it didn't turn out quite like we wanted, more on that later.

Having given the paint being time to cure we got going with assembly. We like to use 9" rears as much as possible, and have Dutchman build the housings and centers to our specific specs. If you were doing this at home it would be a simple direct bolt in with our Torque Arm package. We're also bringing back the Speedtech Chicane 9 Full Floater axle with improvements. Look for those rears on future builds.

Sicario got Viking's double adjustable coilovers with their special Crusader line autoX valving. These shocks have some serious dyno charts! When I swapped to them from the Viking Warrior line on my car I felt a huge difference on the track, they work extremely well! Sweet Mfg. custom builds our ExtReme Rack & Pinions with special valving to make them fast and durable with these larger sticky tires. Note on all ExtReme chassis and subframes we're using splined sway bars tuned to your specific application. Splined bars make life much easier when fine tuning and they're adjustable for different track conditions. For example you'll use one setting on the autoX and in just a couple minutes switch to the other setting for road course.

Note the channel that comes as part of the ExtReme frame connector kit. On one side it provides a path for tucking fuel lines and on the other we mount the e-brake cables.

Sicario sports 315s up front and 335s out back. You'll see though that Michael Cuthbertson has managed to sneak 335s all around under his '68 Camaro with our ExtReme sub frame.

Agreed, the channel is a simple extra convenience built into a great product. We love this stuff as much as you guys and really try to think all things out before releasing a product and it's often those little things that make our products the better value. It's like having a woman rather than a man design the kitchen for that new house, right? ;)

A few more pics of getting it ready to drop on it's wheels. Note the ExtReme suspension is focused on max capability and uses street use spherical bearings on tie rod and sway bar links to reduce bind, free up friction and allow faster, smoother motion. No compromises here though, this design will last a long time and not wear out or make noise like the more basic race only joints. Note also how well the exhaust tucks up into the frame rails.

Our Torque arm is internally gusseted and uses a higher strength steel to keep it incredibly strong and simple and compact in packaging. We can easily tuck a full 3" out the back exhaust system. Not shown on this car is the now available rear sway bar for Torque arms, for those hardcore ExtReme guys that need to compensate for massive front spring rate.

We're a dealer for Rick's tanks because they fit great, are super high quality, have a really cool unique pump system and they're awesome to partner with.

Finally, Sicario got to soak up a little vitamin D outside. Note how low it is yet still has fantastic ground clearance, one of the goals of the ExtReme frames. Right here is close to optimum ride height for geometry purposes, however there is some leeway in going a little lower.

Turning attention to the interior, this is where I got to step in again. Our client came up with the name of Sicario, based on the movie. With that in mind I did a little research on the main weapons used in the film and a few others, and integrated some of their design features into the interior. I don't know diddly about guns so please don't ask about them specifically, lol!

Here's a couple of the original sketches. The seats needed a major overhaul, they're nice seats but didn't appeal visually to any of us for this particular car. The center diamond pattern was inspired by the grip of the gun on the upper left and we did a lot of reshaping to make the design smoother and flow better while the headrest were reduced significantly in size.

The custom door panels feature design cues from the other guns.

The end result of the rework on the front seats came out fantastic. For the back seats we decided to start from scratch and built them to match.

Continuing our theme through the interior we next addressed the rear package shelf. Mock ups for speaket layout were created digitally, test fit and then cut from wood and wrapped or laser cut from sheet metal and powdercoated. We chose Focal speakers for a great sound and they've got a really cool woven texture.

Rather than a replacement factory style carpet we chose to have a smoother look and opted for a custom carpet install. Note how jute padding was used to flatten the floorboards by filling in the bumps and valleys for a super clean look. More coming soon...

On with the engine bay. Our custom build 720 hp LS3 based Texas Speed engine came to us in a raw finish so a bit of flat black engine paint got it looking the way we wanted. Carrying the outside theme to the engine included a custom set of coilcovers, while all the accessories along with some interior parts were painted to match the exterior stripe. More coming soon...

We discussed different options for the door speakers but found that we were very limited according to inner component clearances. We finally decided to just keep it simple yet effective and used an inner panel with a layout that worked and created the outer more visual parts to work around that layout. Here you can see that simple format. Also in the pic is the crossover electronics. I'll post the final door panel pics with pics of the completed interior soon.

Note these will not work out of the box as is for any other subframe, they are contoured specifically for the ExtReme. The divits you see near the back side, omne near the brake master, are for the down tube brace bars.

Michael- They come in a semigloss black gelcoat ready for finishing. Mounting uses most of the factory mount tabs. Some tabs may need to be bent slightly to make the angles the same as the tub surface. There is a factory firewall bracket that doesn't get used and will need to be trimmed to fit the larger tub. If you're running a clutch master with our bracket you will need to open a small hole in the driver's side tub for clearance. Overall It's a fairly easy installation.

More engine stuff, or rather how the exhaust fits with our extreme sub frames, torque arms and frame connectors. Several folks have been asking about this and as shown here we typically use dual 3" systems in most cars and send it out the back near the stock locations.

The entire system pretty much lays out like any typical system. Getting around the panhard bar is probably the tightest spot but can be done fairly easy with plenty of clearance. We use fuel tanks that are "notched" on the front corners to give us a little more wiggle room for routing tubes. Rick's tanks supplies us with these stainless tanks already built this way.

Note the first couple pics illustrate the channels that come with the ExtReme subframe connector kit to route fuel lines and e-brake cables.

Finally we're caught up and ready to post some final pics. Overall the car turned out great and our customer was completely blown away at the end results. I had a chance to drive the car out for a photo shoot, and it rode great, is super responsive, sticks to the road and has incredibly smooth power. Overall the drive matched it's great looks.

The full custom interior turned out fantastic! We used Speedhut for the custom Speedtech Signature Series ExtReme gauges, a Billet Specialties steering wheel and billet shifter surround add to the theme and vintage air takes care of HVAC duties.

Shortly after completion we took the car to a Goodguys show to have on display at our vendor booth. The car was a big hit with spectators and we won a Goodguys Staff Pick award! That was pretty exciting!

At last we gave the car back to it's owners and Dad Dave handed the keys over to son Mason who couldn't stop smiling. next up- Dad Dave's 1st gen Camaro gets the same ExtReme treatment!

At this point we're anticipating having Sicario on display with us at our Speedtech Corral at LS Fest West in May. Come check it out in person!
