I have a 68 Camaro with a SpeedTech frame. I would like to use a fbody accessory bracket for PS and Alt but really don't care for the look of a high mount AC compressor even with the Holley bracket. Has anyone tried Vintage Air's Low Mount bracket? (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/vta-141809?seid=srese1&gclid=Cj0KEQiAtri0BRDLoaCF95e7o_sBEiQA_pgRQ4IYN6jO flzjTrlWpk8wCd4fTu6NtYi4FH-73h3aVjEaAhot8P8HAQ) And would a SD7 be better than the 508 for fitment?

The VA low mount looks similar to what Mark fabbed up on Camaro X so I have hopes it may work. I'm thinking using a SD7 will help with plumbing since it from the from the side and not out the back like on the 508.

I love the Front Runner or Drive Junky but not sure it's in the budget. I may just have to use Holley's brackets.

Thanks! That looks like the same approach as the VA low mount. Do you know for sure this will work for my application?

Can't answer if it will clear your subframe. Allows the va comp to be used in stock location so you don't have to use a gm comp

I just put the AlanGrove mount on an LS1, cant tell ya if it will work on your chassis. It mounts the SD508 nice and tight to the block. I'll snap a pic if you would like?

I used the Allen Grove low mount for the camaro. I am very happy with results. Nice and tight.

Here is the Alan Grove bracket with a Sanden 508 on an LSA motor in a 66 Nova....the Vintage Air bracket IS an Alan Grove bracket.

Does anybody know if the tensioner in the Alan Grove kit is their own design, or is it available elsewhere?

Not trying to hi-jack the thread. Just thought I would ask since you guys were talking about their brackets. I am trying to plan out my accessory drive setup, and am looking for parts.

It's a GM tensioner......not sure if truck, car or what....

Will this bracket allow a 508 compressor to clear the stock frame on a 68 Camaro without notching it? I'm running the F-Body accessory kit on my 6.0L. Anyone know?

Short answer is no. It depends on where the engine is located.

I'm running the Holley system with the F body drive spaced 3/4" forward with a truck balancer. I made a custom bracket with a 7176 compressor. No notching but a 508 won't fit.

Hi Tim do you have any pictures of your set up?

Wayne are you set on running a 508? I modified the alan grove bracket to work with a sd7 using a ems manifold. Fits very snug to the block.

I have a bracket to try to mount the SD7 close to the block. I tried it against the block and its hitting somewhere. I don't want to trim it someone is letting me try it for my car. I will be back in the garage this week after a cross country drive.

Wayne, do you have a stock frame? Take pics as you test fit/trim!
I really want to low mount a SD7, I have a SpeedTech frame (the old one).
I should be able to test fit the LS very soon and then I can measure from the specs on the Alen Grove site.

Were you ever able to test fit a low mount SD7 with your Speedtech frame? I have the same frame and I am getting ready to buy a LSA motor so I am really interested in how that worked out for you. With the tensioner located where it is on a LSA FEAD I really don't have the option to high mount it. Not afraid of notching subframe if necessary.

Thanks,

Dave

Dave, after a lot of measuring I decided to go with the CTS-V front drive and a Holley high mount bracket and SD7. Everything packages nicely. The alternator is a little close at the widest point, but there's still plenty of clearance.

At first I had the sbc frame stands (from my LT1) and I couldn't get the alternator to clear the frame rail. So I installed the correct LSx frame stands that move the motor to the passenger side slightly. That did the trick but killed any possibility of fitting a low mount AC compressor. Personally I don't feel there's enough frame rail to notch. It's not at all like a stock frame. There's just not a lot to cut on. I did notch my stock frame but didn't want to go that route with this ST frame.
So I gave up and went with the Holley bracket.
