Thought I'd share this story from KUSI News! A San Diego reporter got a ride on the USS Albuquerque and put together this three part series. This report brought back some good memories from the "ustafish" .... that's Navy lingo for "my old ship"!

Take a look into the life of a submariner ....

Cool! when you posted that you had gone to visit your old crew I looked up the
USS Albuquerque and read about it's commissioning and some of its history. That's got to feel strange.

Wanye ... it was a little saddening to see the "ustafish" put into inactivation, had a lot of good times with an amazing crew. When the Albuquerque left on deployment we kicked azz and took names, period, there was no middle ground!

Of course there were not-so-good times, such as our first under-ice mission where, as sonarmen listening to the external environment, listened to ice for 6 hours at a time, which sounds like babies crying, for weeks! Or the time there were only two sonar supervisors coming back from the Mediterranean which meant I was "port and starboard" watch rotation ... 6 hours on and 6 hours off for weeks!

The Albuquerque is an amazing ship and the bonds of shipmates will never be inactivated!

When my son in law was stationed at Groton, I got to see the subs from a distance, it was sweet to se them. We got to go on the USS Nautilus, It was very interesting.

Wayne ... before 9/11 we had guests down on the sub all the time ... wives, girlfriends, both! On your duty day you could have a guest down for dinner and a movie if you didn't have work to do ...not any more thou!

Hey, you have a good Turkey Day with the family ... it's snowing here in Colorado!!
