I'm getting ready to order the covan classic gauge cluster and I've confused myself on what speedometer to get.

Yearone, where i was ordering it from told me I just need a adaptor to make it work.

But i put a T56 in my car, and I'm thinking I need a electroinc speedometer. if that is the case, how do I wire it?

Help greatly apprecited.

This is the adaptor that year one is telling me I need..

AM5291

its descpition.

Auto Meter speedometer sending unit for GM Vehicles allows the use of an elctronic speedometer on a car orginally equipped with mechanical gauges. This unit works for cars with 7/8”-18THD from the factory. This unit puts out 16 pulses per revoloution and includes pass-thru drive for cruise control.

Moose, looks like the Autometer part is for a cable driven speedo. you need the adaptor for the odometer to read. Never used the covan guage sets but on the Autometer it will have you drive the car 1/4 mile and reset the odometer to calibrate.

I did the same thing. T56 with a Covan dash, Autometer spedo. It is acually very very easy once you know what to get ,where to get it, and how to do it. Stay electronic. Do not switch it over to a cable. I got my conector pigtail for the speed sensor on the t56 from dakotadigital.com but Tyler at ATS could also sell it to you. The electronic speedos are nice because you can calibrate them after you change tires/Wheels. You just hit a button, Drive exactly 2 miles and stop and then hit the button again and its calibrated! I like to order stuff from ATS because then I don't feel quite as bad when I call to pick Tylers brain.

To wire the pigtail the purple wire goes to the back of the spedo and the other wire goes to ground. Easy!
