I need your assistence with an issue I'm having with mounting my LS6 into my '66 Chevelle. I have installed 1 inch set back plates and stock motor mounts. As I lower the motor, the mounts were off line (through bolt holes) with the bigblock pedestal mounts that mount to the crossmember. Should I swap out for oem small block mounts?

Any advice would be great!
Thanks in advance…

Joe,

On my 70 a-body, the big block and the small block frame stands were the same. You may also hold off a bit as Holley is developing a system for LS swaps into A-bodies. There is a thread about this on ls1tech.com. I don't recall if early A-bodies were included, but it's a start.

Thanks for the quick response Andrew. I will look into that thread for sure. Also look into Holly. Hoping I can get this delt with soon. Like to go into the winter with the motor and trans buttoned up...

Cheers!

After doing some more research, looks like my oem bb motor mounts (with insulators) may be the reason motor mounts and pedestal mounts are not lining up with the through bolt holes. So I'm going to pull the trigger on these. I've read nothing but positive reviews with the F-bodies and a couple of A-bodies...

Solved!

For anyone who's interested:

Saw the complete LS conversion on a '69 Chevelle (locally), no issues!

for your car the stands are indeed different. Glad it's all fixed up. Photos?

Install went very smoothly thanks to http://www.brphotrods.com/
Quality made in the USA. Pulling it out, going to do some minor work on the tunnel and then installing motor and trans together. Also have their trans cross-member for the T56.

Joe,

I fear that those mounts will place the engine too high and that ultimately you will have high speed vibration issues. This is a very common problem with LS swaps in A-bodies. Even without the LS swap, driveline angles get all messed up when the car is lowered in the rear, the LS swap makes it worse, and the mounts you are using are taller than most.

Holley is working on a new LS swap system for a-bodies, and while the headers may not work with the 64-67 models, the engine and trans mounts will certainly work and are engineered to have proper driveline operating angles.
