Anyone here ever try to repair auto glass that has a fine scratches that you can feel with your fingernails? I've had glass polished to remove acid etching, but I've never seen scratches removed from auto glass. Both of my door glass, and quarter glass are scratched this way. It's only 45 years old.

Glass is easily scratched and not easily removed. And its easily seen, as were supposed to look through it not at it. And us builders, look at it.
So, contact a few different glass or scratch removal companies and it can be polished out. I bought a kit a SEMA a few years ago and it requires alot of practice to do it properly, but can be done. You will see distortations in the glass if looked at from a different angle, after all, you have to put in scratches to remove scratches....but, itt works...and is doable.
If you feel it with your fingernail, its a scratch, if your fingernail doesnt "grab" it, its a "rub", much easier to remove.....("0000" steel wool/rubbing compound)
Lemme know if you have any more questions,,,,,Mike
Btw, the kit parts are mfg by 3M, they know a thing or two bout materials. Its known as the "trizact" kit.....works very good, just requires many practice....
You'll never get it as flat as it was so even if you remove the scratching you'll still have some level of distortion.

Thanks for the replies fellers. I'm gonna give it a try, to some degree. I need to do more research, before I purchase a product. I priced side glass today, and wow.
