maybe Lance will chime in.. I know he helped a fellow here ship an engine around the country.
I got a not-so-tech savvy friend who asked what I could do about getting a fiberglass front clip from Wisconsin to California. I said, "Nuthin'." But maybe someone here knows a way that isn't 1200$. Any ideas? :ups:

The shipping would be no big deal...it's the packaging that will be tough. It needs to be packaged in a way that monkeys loading and unloading it on and off trucks with forklifts won't destroy it.
Is there a way to get it on a pallet so that nothing hangs off of any side of a pallet? You either have to do that or have a special built crate to put it in.

I'd just get some 2x4's and plywood and build a crate. That's going to be the safest bet, and it wouldn't cost $1200 to ship either. Going truck freight is pretty cheap, and definitely the best route to go.
Luckily, weight won't be an issue. It's just the size.

If your willing to wait, I would find some one from that area that is going to SEMA with a car and have it hauled out that way.
Or just ship it and insure the heck out of it.

Insurance won't be any good if it isn't packaged properly, which means packaged in a way it can survive the forklift monkeys. Seen more than one damage claim refused due to improper packaging. Thankfully I've never had a damage claim refused on something I packaged up.
This is part of what makes a remote shipment tough. Is the front clip all one piece? If so, what are the exterior dimensions? It may be too big to go LTL freight safely anyway...

You can try Greyhound. I've actually heard good things.

There are hundreds and hundreds of cars being shipped/ transported to Monterey for the Races and Auctions in the next two weeks. "Car Week" is Aug 13-19. A bunch of car auctions, plus the vintage races. I'd check for people going that way. Reliable and Interstate will have all their trucks headed there. R&M is in Michigan and they always go.
