Got my 69 up and running....I have 4 wheel disc brakes, Wilwood 6 piston in front and 4 piston in the rear. My question / concern is this, Wilwood says the pads need to be bedded. Is it normal for the brakes to sound like you ran over a Bobcat? The car has not been on the road yet, but moving it around the shop has me bit worried.....the brakes makes a terrible screeching/howl when applied. Is this normal until the pads have been bedded? Need advice. Thanks

Sound coming from all 4? Sounds only when brake pushed? Did you shim the brackets?
Different pads make different sounds depending how aggressive they are, but I don't see them making excessively more noise prior to bedding them in.

NO they should not sound like that! EVER....
Get it up in the air so you can see the back side of the rotors - my guess is you have a bolt in a caliper that is up against the rotor! You should see it quickly because it's probably already left a witness mark.

Did not shim the brackets at all, the sound is when you apply the brakes...

Did not shim the brackets at all , just the calipers to center them on the rotor

I will check the back side of the rotors, but I did make sure that the caliper bolts were not digging into the rotor when I assembled them. The noise comes on when you apply the brakes. Not sure what to make of the noise...

Check to see that one of the pads isn't installed backwards....i.e., that the back of the pad is up against the rotor... don't laugh... it happens!

Black e coated rotors? That's how they sound when new. Bed the pads in and they will be fine.

Yes, Black e-coated rotors, am I glad to hear your response...... I was in panic mode. I'm trying to get the car done for the Car Craft Nationals this weekend and this had me pretty worried.....

Any obvious scarring or marks? I'd check that fully before saying it's just the ecoat. Glad that is a potential cause. Just dont wanna see brake failure rushing to make an event.

Amen to that! Took the car out with my tuner and after a few heat cycles on the brakes, the noise disappeared.

Good news!! I personally wasn't aware that the black coatings would make goofy noises.... so we've all learned something!! Thanks to you and Donny
