What is the best way to reinforce rear shock mount sheet metal? Shock pushed through!

I kept noticing a clunk sound coming from the rear end the last few days.

Fortunately I've just been cruising around. No spirited driving. Yes it sounded exactly like the shock was loose.

Climbed underneath tonight and the upper washer, along with the rubber mount has pushed itself through the hole in the sheet metal.

There is no visible damage, and the hole does not look enlarged at first glance. My guess is that there is a lot of flex in the sheet metal at the floor, where the shock mounts.

Add a set of bilsteins, lowed performance suspension, and I guess it's just too much.

In the mustang there is an encapsulated chamber for the upper shock, so it is not as simple as welding a thicker reinforcement metal section in from the top.

I maybe upgrading the rear suspension in the future, but for now, I am wondering if any of you have experienced this, and have a suggested repair/reinforcement method.

Why not take a round are square piece of tubing and tie the framerails together and add shock mounts to that?

What does the other side look like in your car? In a Camaro they have a reinforcement plate welded to the sheet metal that is plenty strong enough unless it is weakened by rust. In your pic I see a 2nd piece of metal above the sheet metal that might be something similar.
