View Full Version : Project Brodillac - 1962 Cadillac Limo

So this car is 100% the opposite of performance and pro touring. But I love this massive boat of a car, and it's the ultimate cruiser. With that being said, I figured I'd share some pictures of the car and story.

To start, about 8 years ago I saw a 1959 Cadillac Limo, on air bags, at a car show cruising around. I thought to myself, "that's the biggest, baddest car I've ever seen, I GOTTA HAVE ONE!" Fast forward a few years, and I have a '62 Limo. This is a 1962 Cadillac Fleetwood 75 Series, a factory limo.

Now this car was 100% untouched, very very very little was done to it. I guess you could say it was unmolested. I bought it in Parker, AZ, so there's hardly any rust at all with it. I got the car here and started working on it. I had to rebuild the carb, power steering pump, and water pump. Put on new plugs, wires, and alternator and she was running! It never really ran that great, but enough that me and my buddies hopped in and cruised all over town.

February of 2014 I decided it was time to start wrenching on this car. I yanked the original engine and transmission, with plans on going LS powered. Long story short, last Friday I finished the swap! I couldn't be more happy with the swap.

This is an LQ4, 6.0L motor and 4L80E bolted up behind it. The car drives absolutely amazing now. Starts right up, no problems, and cruises like a new car. I can even cruise on the freeway in the fast lane doing 75MPH without any issues.

I don't plan on going into an in-depth build thread here, but just posting some pictures along the way. Just changing it up a bit.

My next step on the car is start rebuilding all the suspension and brakes. Basically, make the car 100% mechanically sound, then start worrying about the interior and such.

One of these days I'll get off my ass and create a build thread for my Chevelle. :)

Tim, congrats on the LS swap! Please, put in the weeds (wait, you're in the desert, so not too many weeds or anything green there) and put some 20" steelies on it :)

Everrrrrybody is a comedian....my wife can attest that yes, it does fit in the garage! She wasn't happy when her Yukon XL sat outside for 4 months...especially when I told her it would only be 3-4 days lol

It will be on the cactus! Or dumped in the tumbleweeds lol. But yes, the car will 100% be on air bags...that's part of my next plans with suspension and brakes. Heck, I even photoshopped it awhile back on the ground.

The Steelies are bad ass for sure...but I actually really love these hub caps...I might just keep them on for now, unless somebody gives me some steelies lol

That is going to be so gangster. I love it. Glad to hear about the successful swap.Definitely keep it up and running, that battleship deserves to be on the street.

Wow...those are way cheaper than I thought they would be lol. I'm so use to pro touring, forged wheels that are $1,000 a piece.

Hmmmm...maybe I will do the steelies. I can also keep the stockers in the back shed if I hate the steelies.

First thing's first though, air bags!

I dig it! About once a month I look for a 1960 Caddy convertible to do exactly the same thing. Have not found the right one yet.

Exactly...that motor is 100% stock, minus the Spectre cold air intake...I would have used the factory cold air intake too, but it wouldn't fit.

I also love that the car isn't painted. I don't have to worry about wiping it down to keep it pristine looking like my Chevelle. Just hop in and enjoy it.

1960 is probably my favorite year of Cadillac. I like the '62's a lot though as well. This limo actually has the dash from a '60 in it, and the top fins are '60 as well. So it's kind of a mix up between the two, which works perfectly for me.

I would love me a '66 Convertible for cruising though too.
