I know this may be tough to articulate because it's a "feel" thing, but I'm trying to determine if my TKO is "feeling" normal. So here goes:

Recently installed a TKO600 in my '68 Camaro and really really like it. The shift from 1st to 2nd though doesn't feel like any manual I've had in the past.

At a very easy, pulling out of the driveway shift from 1 to 2, it feels pretty good and the shifter moves in a fairly straight line from 1 to 2. Driving around town and shifting at higher RPM, say 2000 to 3000, the shifter seems to want to move noticeably to the right when moving from 1 to 2. Not enough to miss a gear, but enough to wonder if it's normal. There is no interference at the floor or console/boot. All other shifts are fine and 3 to 4 is a perfectly straight line.

Is this normal for these transmissions? Could it be the shifter?

The shifter should go straight back smoothly and not move to the right. Contact the place you bought it to get some help. It may possibly be a warranty issue.

It should be spring loaded to the center position. If it's resting and you push the shifter up, it will go into 3rd gear, down into 4th. 5th is and effort to to right and up.

It was explained ot me as well.....It will rest in 3/4 position on its own.

Yup, so if your going into second, the stick will want to go right (middle position)
Comparing to a worn out Muncie shifter, it may be very noticeable

Spring loaded to the 3-4 gate is normal. Maybe I misunderstood your question? If it's forcing you to go right while going into second there is a problem.
