My friend and Power Tour companion Mark Webster sold his Big Block 66 Impala last year and ended up buying an original paint 67 Bel Air Arizona car to replace it......All original 283, powerglide, Factory A/C car.............But......After watching Charley and his LS cars being trouble free during our trips........He has "Seen the Light" and went to the LS side (like me)......LOL......Just so happens I have no projects going on.......So.........Here we go ......another build thread.......LOL.....Here's the starting point.............

Started on the disassembly today.....Jacked the car up and went underneath..........Can you say WOW!!!........This car is so pristine it's crazy.........just a little surface rust and that's it......I'm posting a lot of pic's that show nothing other than the condition of the car........Then with the engine out........Mark did some checking around and we are going to keep the Factory A/C in place........Here are some pic's...........

I didn't have any plans to work on Mark's car today.....But.......When I got home and opened the garage door the engine was calling me......there were a couple unknowns........the engine had a GM Muscle car pan that was already on it from it's previous installation in a 55 Chevy......so......We had talked about getting a Holley 302-1 pan because I knew that one would work out with the engine raised slightly with the motor mount adaptor plates like I made for my Impala install.. .......So......the first thing I did was to wash off the slight amount of Oil that was on the front crossmember.....(Probably the first time it was ever wet)...then I installed the adaptor plates .....installed the new mounts......and dropped it in......Took all of about 45 minutes......LOL......Everything fit perfectly with the exception of the pan sticking down below the crossmember by about two inches........But.....since the car will not be lowered it won't be a problem........I didn't install the trans yet........I will be clearancing the tunnel and installing it from the bottom..............Moving along.....

Always fun to see an umolested car getting molested. Not a criticism, getting ready to do the same myself.
It's just so nice not to have to slice a car to a skeleton to get the rust out and then start getting back to square one after 3 months of body work and paint - if you're lucky.
What a sweet ride that's going to be.

After determining that the pan will be acceptable......I decided to pull the engine out again so I could finish up changing the steering box from that super slow stock ratio manual box to a Jeep Grand Cherokee power steering box....Three turns lock to lock.......I also can now finish "Clearancing" the trans tunnel to fit the new trans..........and I also removed the gas tank so it can be modified to work with the new fuel system.........also removed were the front Drum Brakes which will be replaced with Discs........Mark is bringing over the balance of parts next week so we can do the final assy...........This was hard the first time I did it , but..........LOL...........Also here are some more pic's from the underside of the car..........Just Amazing......

I don't know your plans for A/C, but if you are trying to keep the factory stuff, you can swap the evaporator core for one from a later car (I used '79 Trans Am in my '72 442) with the accompanying receiver/drier and cycle switch to give you a cycling compressor.
In my Jeep, I am using the '79 T/A evaporator with the compressor from my 2008 LY5. Nice and cold!

The next step in the conversion is to replace the stock Master Cylinder with a Matched Disc/Drum Power Master cylinder assy...............Had to elongate the holes on the booster adaptor to get them to fit over the factory studs on the firewall......(you would think the aftermarket guys would have that pattern figured out by now).........I also had to remount the Proportioning valve as there were some clearance issues.......I also had to make some new Brake lines and got to use the "Best" Tool in the garage again.......The Eastwood Flaring tool.....After fighting with those Chinese Crap Flaring tools while building the Chevelle and buying a Real tool............What a delight.......No stress......Just flare in 10 seconds.....every flare is perfect..........one more line to run and the Engine/Trans go's in for good (hopefully)......

Got a couple of things finalized today......Moved the rear cross member back by bolting it from the bottom of the frame mount using the front crossmember hole in the rear frame mount hole ......so ....It is only held in temporarily with 1 bolt per side........Mark will finish the frame mount mod's at his place as they have a person that Really knows how to weld......LOL.....I also thought I would see how the 2012 Camaro exhaust manifolds fit.........It seems they were made for this install......10 Minutes all installed with plenty of room everywhere........Got Lucky again........Next on the list is the Power Steering Pump.....A/C Compressor ......Radiator and trans cooling hose.......Fuel system....Here's a couple more pic's.....Plenty of room around the factory A/C on the firewall........

1.Moving along........Got the Power Steering reservoir mounted ......Mark brought over the correct A/C compressor.....got that installed using Kwik Performance brackets.......(Great Stuff).....got the column shift linkage installed ...... Torque converter bolted up.......I started getting the fuel system installed........Mark modified the stock tank for the LS application........I got the Filter/ Bypass installed and started on the fuel lines......LOL........The lines that Mark supplied are different than the ones I was used to using and after trying for 45 minutes to get one fitting installed.........I threw in the towel.......So.....The car is going back to Mark with just a bunch of Mickey Mouse things left to do........In the pic with the A/C compressor installed, I had a spare 99.5" belt laying around but the directions call for a 101" belt.....the one I had was too short as you can see so Mark will be getting the proper sized one.......New Driveshaft is also installed.....
