I work for a Thermal Spray company. We completed work on spraying bores many years ago. The technology has been out there for a long time. Cool stuff.

Very cool stuff. The Nissan GTR engines use the same process. The only downside I have come across is there is no way to bore out the cylinder without ruining the coating (unless things have changed in the last couple of years).

They used linerless aluminum blocks in the 70's in the ca-am series, they would coat the pistons with steel coating.

Ford was doing a lot of experimentation with this back in the late 80s- early 90's but I don't think it ever caught on for production. I know they were running spray bore blocks on some racing series but I don't even know where to look to find info on that anymore... I've slept once or twice since then
