Seems as though you have a nice board here. I love pro-touring cars and figured this was the place to be.
My names Dave and I'm from North Carolina. I have a 66 Chevy II 100-series 2-dr sedan with a 406 c.i., glide, 3500 stall, 9", disc brakes (front), 3" exhaust, 17X8"s. Here are a few pics of the car. My signature has a link to look at all the pics.

I've lived in Raleigh for about 10 yrs now. I really like it out here. I have lived in MO, CA, TN, TX, and NC. Glad to hear your moving this direction. I think you'll like Charlotte.

I have a 9" that was narrowed a little more than stock. (Maybe 1 to 1.5" on each side?). The rear wheels are a 17X8 with 4 backspace (deeper dish) and the fronts are 17X8 with 5" backspace.
They are tucked in a stock wheel well. You have to be sure your offset is exact otherwise you will rub with 8" wheels. Measure the offset carefully before you order your wheels.

You can fit an 8" wheel in a stock wheel well with a 5" backspace
Depending on how centered your rear end housing depends on whether your tires will rub. Personally, I think a 7" wheel looks just fine + you don't have to worry everytime you load the family in it. Looks good like it sits.
