Mechanical Fuel Pump Question

I just purchased a new 383 and want to run a mechanical fuel pump instead of an electric fuel pump, which is what I have currently. To be honest, I'm not to familiar with the whole setup. I did some research and figured out how they work but that's about the extent of it. When I go to install it, there isn't a rod to activate the fuel pump arm so I'm stumped. Should the motor have come with one installed? I'd hate to break apart the new motor to install one, if that's what it takes.

Yes you'll need the fuel pump push rod and the fuel pump mounting plate.. Some eng builders leave them off/out.

Just put a pushrod into the block. And depending on where the fuel pump lobe is at the time will determine how much effort will be needed to slide the fuel pump arm under the pushrod as you bolt the pump on.

Ok I'll grab a pushrod and put it into the block, as well as a fuel pump mounting plate. Last question...Should I be able to activate the fuel pump by hand? It seems as if it's stuck, but it may just be that I'm not strong enough.

Just put a pushrod into the block. And depending on where the fuel pump lobe is at the time will determine how much effort will be needed to slide the fuel pump arm under the pushrod as you bolt the pump on.You can turn the eng over by hand until the the lobe is on the flat side then the rod will be up into the block
