Introducing a new thread for a build we have been chipping a way at for a few months now.
The customer brought us a somewhat decent starting point for the planned build using a Wegner LS7 pushing around 650HP mated to a T56 and utilizing our FAST TRACK IRS chassis.
The plan would be a clean, stylish '68 picking up some contemporary design cues from European coupes without losing the distinct flavor of the 1st gen Camaro in a pro-touring package: hence the name 'Fused'.

Chassis in place right away.

Rear tub and trunk floor fab - not all of this is necessary with the chassis install, but with the plan for the car (ie, not needing to be original) and time frame, this was simply quicker.

I cant wait to see this one come together. Love the rendering. I can already tell this will be one of my favorites.
Man, that is a nice shop too. Looking at the "GoPro" 2nd gen, i was looking in the backround, really admiring the shop. I hope to have a glass shop (well my own building) this nice one day....

Killer rendering Chris! Enjoy all the little details and touches you guys put on your cars. It's the simple little things can make a big difference. In this case the fuel filler & trunk latch. Slick idea. Look forward to seeing this one unfold.

Will it be solid mounted to the core support as in the picture? If so, I guess you guys have not had problems doing so? (Duh, or you wouldn't do it, I know)

Corvette door handle mod that we first did on the 2nd gen race car and wanted to use on a 'regular' build...

https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8674/16419672686_a5057cb0b8_b.jpg
At this point we had a plan for the interior - not a huge departure from factory other than cleaned up lines, some cosmetic enhancements such as newer Camaro vents, double din unit and some tweaked trim for a cleaner feel. 2 of the mods to tackle first were the center cluster on the dash and building the blisters for the new Camaro ac vents:

Another trick mod we wanted to try on this car was the 'split' fender detail. Seems counter intuitive to actually add split lines to a surface on these cars, but this one just seems to work quite nicely with a nod to the clam shell style hood of an F-type Jag.

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7289/16258313750_d9e44a7220_b.jpg
Fender will get a machined insert in a contrast paint finish so we created the pocket below the split line to accommodate it.

Tailpanel insert being machined from steel - backside pocketing to remove excess weight:
https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8586/15823200254_4145feb3d1_b.jpg
Face side. 'tailpanel insert' sounds fairly simple at first, but the piece had to be thin enough to weld to the surrounding steel while holding the subtle compound directional curves that the original had... the thickest part of the piece was about 0.42"

A few more pics for today, kicking off with the rear spoiler. We wanted a lower, less dominant spoiler than factory due to the details we have added on the tailpanel and lower valance. The 'shorty' would give a better visual balance.

Next we turned our attention to the lower valance area. The plan was an integration of the '69 style turn signals with a center opening and insert.
First we filled the 67/8 valance:

RS really does have a lot of creative ideas - every car seems to have fresh styling and is not overdone and while you can say there is an RS style, its not cookie cutter in any way.
I mean I am bored to death with early Camaro PT cars, and yet look how many different ways they are making this car interesting to the point where I am excited and interested in the build.
And thanks RS for showing us some of the fab photos not just the finished pieces. I learn so much just looking at how you tack, how you join, the HAZ on your welding etc.

Thanks for the kind words. Its a fine line to walk making each car unique in itself and not just throw the same bag of tricks at a build every time, all while keeping it very much a 'Roadster Shop' style.

Sorry -- the yellow calipers are just clashing with that paint - I'd make them go away painting them black... That's the only two colors on the car - the body paint and black. Normally I keep my big yap shut on this kind of stuff... but had to say this because the car is friggin' killer. Love the ADV wheels too! Hopefully they replace the rollers on it as shown.

Of course -- one of my favorite sayings is "the only guy that needs to like it, is the guy that's paying the bills..."
I just found that no matter what I was looking at in the pictures <great photos by the way> was that I was distracted by the calipers "popping" out.

Mike how can you tell? What does a 68 firewall look like? You've got one hell of a good eye if you can see that with all the changes they did to the car. To my untrained eye, it looks like metal. Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's metal. And it's flat.

Been researching this myself for months.
It looks like the Wegner drive setup. Powermaster sells black alternators. RS probably does the compressor in house to match. I would LOVE to put together this exact drive setup on my BBC...

Thanks again for all the comments! The car is at upholstery now and hopefully will be back in time to wrap it up and debut at Columbus.
The car is actually a 67. The customer decided he didn't want vent windows so we put 68 doors on it. All of the other distinctions between the 2 years have been changed to something custom (except the wiper hole).
The front drive is from Wegner. It comes with the black alternator and a/c compressor. Very nice components!

How did you handle the doors since the door hinges are completely different?
You just combine a set of 68 door side to 67 body side hinges.
There are a few other give always that it is a 67 like the lack of asto ventilation in the dash and door jambs. You can also tell it is an early production run 67 because it has the original telephone stamping in the door jamb.

I think I have tried that, but did not work since the 67 is a cast hinge and the 68 is stamped steel.
