My plan for Heat and Sound insulation... Thoughts?

Currently I have the interior out of the car and thought I would do some sound and heat insulation work to it. As of right now, I have 2 layers of fatmat down on the entire floor of the car with the exception of the trunk. This includes front and rear firewalls. I do not have a firewall insulation. Why 2 layers? because if 1 layer is good 2 is better right? At least thats what I thought 8 years ago when I did it.

The plan:
1)Peel off as much Fatmat as I can leaving only 25% coverage if possible.
2)Add fatmat (sparingly) to inner fender skins and door skins.
3)Add Dynaliner. 1/2" for the firewall and trans tunnel, 1/4" for the remainder of the floor, 1/8" for door cars and rear quarter moldings and anywhere else the 1/4" didnt cover.
4)New carpet, Im going to order the ultra plush MASS backed carpet with the standard jute. This should satisfy, with-in reason, the mass vinyl portion of sound insulation without going to the heavy stuff.

A couple questions:
1)If the carpet has jute, will the 1/4" dynaliner provide any benefit on the floor?
2)Is it necessary to do any sound in the trunk? I see alot of people covering every square inch of the car in dynamat including the trunk. Since my trunk is sealed off from the rest of the interior with fatmat, do I need anything in the trunk? I'd like for the car to stay on the lighter side but still be a comfortable cruiser. Right now, I still get a lot of noise and radiant heat.

Replace dynaliner with UnderCarpet lite from DEI. http://www.designengineering.com///category/catalog/boom-mat-acoustical-products/under-carpet-lite

Lays down better, a lot better. 3M super77 or your favorite spray adhesive works great. I feel it works better but I have no science for that. The Dynaliner will collapse under your feet ad you will end up with a crater where you heel goes.

The jute may have some R value but it is not nearly as efficient as the UC Lite.

The trunk is a big drum, it will still resonate without any dampening material. I only do it if the car is getting upholstered back there, all the ____mat products have a nasty habit of getting all over your stuff if they are not covered up.

Thanks for the info. I've switched away from the dynalite now. The UC lite is cheaper and should work better.

I've reevaluated my fatmat situation. This stuff aint coming up. I think I'd rather trade the car out and start over fresh than peel that stuff up just to save 20 lbs. I'd rather diet and exercise myself over the next few months than fight with that stuff in the floor. Im carrying and extra 40 myself.

I have to pull some raamat up from my rear seat floor area to clear way for the roll bar mounts to go...I am NOT looking forward to that project.

Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated...

I used a heat Gun and a thin metal putty knife. Heated the panel from the underside,then slowly worked the knife. Very slow and painstaking you will need a helper.

I once asked my wife to man the fire extinguisher while I clearanced the shifter hole from under the car with a cutoff wheel. We were in the kitchen when were in the kitchen when I put the fire extinguisher in her hands. With a cute yet dead serious look on her face, she asked "Is the car on fire now?!?!" I couldnt help but laugh. :weld:

I'm trying to figure out if my wife would make a better scraper or heat gun holder... She has a hard enough time holding a flashlight pointed in the right direction when helping me, how will she do holding a heat gun on the bottom side of the car for an extended period?

Are you serious??? After using the heat gun, she may commandeer it for hair drying duty afterwards. If there is one thing my wife CAN handle, its a hair dryer.

On the other hand... "Honey, thats a brake line. Stay away from that. Thats a fuel line. Stay away from that."

I read somewhere quite a while ago about using cold to freeze the dynamat and remove it(?) Valid?

Have heard about people using dry ice on Dynamat. Dynamat will freeze and break off. Using heat gun works but it's a gooey mess.
