Question for the AC experts

I purchsed a kit on ebay thinking it would save me some coin...

However... the line is #12 and #8 instead of #10 and #6... does it matter or does that diameter have to match the compressor output?

I'm no expert but I would match the line size with the compressor. In the commercial world I only up the line size when traveling farther than recommended.
I've never dealt with automotive ac, I'd call the vendor.

you have a -10 that runs evap to compressor, -8 that runs from compressor to condensor, and -6 that runs from condensor to evap. If you have bulkheads, double the number of fittings.

I thought VA kits used 10, 8 and 6.

I talked with a guy who knows a guy that knows more about it....he said the line size is fine.

All VA said to me was '8 on the discharge" "10 on the suction... " they wouldn't expound on it more than that... :-(

The fitting sizes on the compressor, condenser, evaporator and drier are going to dictate the hose sizes. You can download the instructions for whatever kit you are buying on the VA website and see what it says. Mike is right on and I have installed 3 VA systems that agreed with his numbers. The no. 6 might be all hardline depending on the kit you use but if you are doing a custom installation you will likely end up needing no. 6 hose too.

BTW, I just noticed you were looking for an AC expert which pretty much rules me out... :>)
