Well, I have decided to pull the trigger and finally start a build thread for my 68 Camaro. I bought this as my first car when I was 15 years old (1995). I remember it like it was yesterday going and having my dad test drive it and then he made me call back later that night and do all the negotiations for the price. Got it for 2800 dollars and could not have been happier. It is also a build to thank my dad first for getting me involved in cars since I was little. and second allowing a 15 year old kid buy a 68 camaro with all of my saved money. in his defense it was a 6cyl 3 speed car haha.
this is not how the car looked when I first brought it home but i can not find those pictures, it had stock hubcaps and steel wheels. But i Quickly changed that.

I drove it around my yard until I got my official license then I got my temp plates and had it ready for the road

I drove it like that for a few years then swapped in a small block and 4 speed

My older brother got a little jealous and picked himself up a chevelle

Anyway after driving it hard for a few years as a kid, once in college it started showing the effects of being a daily driver in New England. That is when I parked it in my dads garage and started to tear it apart. THEN LIFE SET IN!!! College, Job, Marriage, House, baby 1, Bigger house, Baby 2. So there is sat for 10+ years

Finally it was time to either work on it or sell it. My wife wanted me to fix it because she knows how much it has meant to me. also she was a little jelous old girlfriends got to ride in it and she hasn't haha. So I pulled it out of my dads garage and put it in my

Paul,
What are your plans for it?
while my plans have changed so many times. I am trying to tone it down and make it realistic to my budget. I want a nice cruising car to enjoy with my family. Since some of my favorite child hood memories are ones going to car shows with my family, I hope that can be passed down to my two little girls.
I have a ridetech level 2 kit for suspension
Going with a stock LS3 480hp
Stock interior with Pro-Car seats
stock exterior just tighten up the gaps
basically just a nice driver for us to enjoy

I lobbied hard to get a pony car for my first, but mama-san killed that right away.
Can't wait to see what you end up with when done, and there is a plenty of eye-candy on here to keep you inspired

So the first thing I wanted to do was have the shell blasted and see just how bad things were. I had Tony at muscle car metal strip the car and replace what was needed, after having it blasted it was way more solid that I thought it was. The floors needed help the rockers were shot and the left hand quarter needed a patch, but the rest of the car was pretty solid. also had him minitub the car with the floors out of it.

I just subscribed. Really like first car stories. Those always seem to have the most memories. Cool to see you have Ridetech Tru Turn in the front. I went with that as well seems like a cool product. I have been thinking about using a clamshell front engine mount as well to keep vibration down. Whose mount is that ?
Keep up the good work !

Hi Scott, Hooker recommends the Anchor industries 2292 mount. Some people have even opened them up and installed Poly inserts instead of the rubber.

Thanks ! I just bookmarked and will compare the height to see if they work on my car. I think a soft mount will cut down on vibration, so I may give them a try. Again cool project !!

Nice! Plan to cover the rear seat or are you going to keep it stock? Looks like you could go either way assuming you have a black stock back seat.

got my frame back from paint. So now my question on the order of things, should I get this new frame mounted up and get all the ridetech stuff back on the front them move on to my bolt in 4 link and rear end? or should i keep it rolling on the old frame and stock front suspension and do the bolt on 4 link. OR should I at this point get the bottom of the tub raptor lined then install 4 link?

The frame looks nice! Your question about build sequence is a really good one. I've gone back and forth on what to do in what order along the entire way once I reached the point of epoxy. Changes things considerably once you have a finish you're trying not to scratch. Since I didn't have any running and driving history with my car I decided to put the car together in epoxy and run it knowing I would likely make changes. Keeping in mind the subframe and rear end were done in epoxy with intent to be the final finish. One thing I would change next time is I would spray the UPol Raptor liner on the tub before final drivetrain assembly but that's probably cause I'm lazy and don't want to tear the car back down to spray it now.

I am going to pick up some paint stripper and check that area I have read the other tell tale signs are if the bump stop circles have 3 tack welds In a triangle shape and if the rear corners and kinda cut at a strange angle. This hood has both those if I could find a stamp I would be pumped as those actually came off the assembly line.

It's hard to say definitively, however the rear corners near the hood hinge have me thinking this is a reproduction. An example of the differences can be found here (http://www.camaros.net/forums/15-tag-team/165959-real-cowl-hood.html#post1295036)
That being said, being a reproduction is certainly not a bad thing if it fits. I've seen people spend just as much time fitting a NOS hood.

Well I felt the need to update this thread. I lost my father on 3/27 (his favorite chevy engine by the way), He was the man that gave me my passion for cars and I am very sorry he will never get to see this car finished. I do know however how proud he was to take his 15 year old son to go buy it and then all the time he took teaching me how to drive the three speed manual. I spent many hours and have countless memories doing car stuff with my dad and know he will be riding with me once it is done. I have since made some more progress and really hope to keep going with it in his memory.

Thanks guys! Some more updates working on the grill and the rear brakes. It is nice to add this to the car instead of always taking things off lol.
