Hello everyone,

I have been a member on the board here for several years and from time to time I chime in. But I decided I would start my own build thread finally. I have learned so much from you all and thought I would share my stuff. My car is pretty far along at this point, so I will start from the beginning and post up as the build progressed.

In this post I will show the humble beginnings of the project and the rendering I had done so that I could see what was dancing in my head.

I hope you all enjoy…….

So here is where I found the car. It was originally an Alabama car from new until 1988 when it made its way to Connecticut. In 1990 a friend bought it and put it in this garage. He pulled the motor and trans and took the nose off. It sat like that until 2009 win he got divorced. She ended up with this their rental home and garage and he had to empty it out. With my truck and trailer and his it took a few trips but we did it.

Here it is outside in the daylight for the first time in 19 years!

Here is the rendering of my plan…..

These were taken once I got it home and I quickly assembled the nose to see what I had to wrk with….

This is an all original factory paint car. Never hit or any damage. Some minor rust in the rear quarters but not bad.

I promptly cut out the shock towers and installed anew crossmember to runs a Mustang II style front end.

A friend lent me his rotisserie so I could clean up the floors and paint it all….

The floors were so solid I never had to weld anything up. Shocking for a Maverick!~

With the addition of the M II front end this old crossmember was no longer needed. Without the front strut arms I decided to get rid of it. Big and ugly, it needed to go. But, I thought some good support was ultimately needed so I tabbed up this crossmember instead.

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii273/hotrod-1947/crossmemberLarge_zps4bda2d56.jpg (http://s266.photobucket.com/user/hotrod-1947/media/crossmemberLarge_zps4bda2d56.jpg.html)

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii273/hotrod-1947/crossmember1Large_zpsca266f70.jpg (http://s266.photobucket.com/user/hotrod-1947/media/crossmember1Large_zpsca266f70.jpg.html)

The front end I bought came from Rod & Custom Motorsports. They make M II front ends pretty much exclusively for late 60's and early 70's Fords. The one I ordered was all set up for my Maverick. It came with patch panels to fill in the shock towers, but I really didn't like the way they were looking. So I cut out the entire front end and tabbed up new fender wells.

Before final welding I rehung the nose to make sure everything was where it should be still….

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii273/hotrod-1947/mockup6_zps51b94079.jpg (http://s266.photobucket.com/user/hotrod-1947/media/mockup6_zps51b94079.jpg.html)

I was then able to final weld, do body work and prime the front fender wells and firewall.

Moving on the radiator support now, I had some fitting to do as the notch for the battery box wasn't needed anymore. Also, plenty of extra holes to fill. I took the time to install the radiator and see plenty of extra space around it so I also filled that in for a better fit and flow of air.

Look at all that space around the radiator…..

The green tape shows where I had to fill in….

I wanted a tilt column, so I bought a universal Ididit tilt. With a little fab work I was able to make it bolt into the stock firewall mounts as seen here…

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii273/hotrod-1947/column1Medium_zps8ad51052.jpg (http://s266.photobucket.com/user/hotrod-1947/media/column1Medium_zps8ad51052.jpg.html)

I cut some strap and welded a piece around the column to use as a mount at the top. It took a little customizing to make it work with the factory mounts, but all in all I think it came out good.

To top it off will be this billet steering column with the wood grain Hydrographics. This was made for me at Julaino's Hot Rods. Bob and I worked together on this. I had known Bob for years, he and my father went back to grade school together. Sad thing Bob passing a few years ago, glad I got one of his steering wheels before he passed on though.

So before I started on the outside of the car I figured I would continue forward and do the dash and lower panel that will surround the column.

This isn't mine, but it shows the mundane stock dash…..

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii273/hotrod-1947/bl6EK_800600_zps7ecb2062.jpg (http://s266.photobucket.com/user/hotrod-1947/media/bl6EK_800600_zps7ecb2062.jpg.html)

I will spare you all the fab pictures and move right on to what I came up with. Here I have made out of sheet metal the new gauge panel that bolts in just as the factory two gauge panel did. I instead wanted a full gauge set for the car.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii273/hotrod-1947/DSC02307.jpg (http://s266.photobucket.com/user/hotrod-1947/media/DSC02307.jpg.html)

Not liking the factory lower shelf the Maverick had I made this lower panel to house the stereo and the switches. I want the dash itself to be clean and simple.

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii273/hotrod-1947/DSC02308.jpg (http://s266.photobucket.com/user/hotrod-1947/media/DSC02308.jpg.html)

Here you can see the layout for the gauges as well as the holes in the lower panel for the lights, wiper and ignition switches. This picture also shows the area that will cup the column as it comes through the dash and lower panel.

Here is the panel in primer after body work has been done. This shows the gauges I have now for the car as well as the panel that has the gear selector along with the engine light, hi beams, turn signals etc.

What I haven't mentioned yet is that I am a former body paint guy by trade. I have this 36x28 shop in my back yard that I am building the car in. In order to fund it I do side work on hot rods for friends. This way the entire cost of the build is not funded from my regular pay or savings. That is why this has been a drawn out process.

Here is some of my stuff….

First up is my 32 Ford coupe. I have had it for a while and been having plenty of fun with it, but last winter decided a makeover was in need.

So I went from this…...
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii273/hotrod-1947/DSC02773.jpg (http://s266.photobucket.com/user/hotrod-1947/media/DSC02773.jpg.html)

And after all this……

I am lucky to have a booth to "borrow" when needed.

I ended up with this….

New wheels and tires, windshield frame, mirrors, and taillights all added up for a completely new look.

With the new look and all the work I won a few best paint awards at some car shows this year. As well as Goodguys "Hotest Hot Rod" and NSRA "PPG Outstanding Use of Color" awards too.

I recently picked up this 70 F100 for a good shop truck. Once the weather breaks this spring I plan on lowering it and adding disc brakes. Other than that this is a really good solid rig.

In an effort to get rid of the factory taillights I decided to swap out the rear tail pan. I love the Shelby lights, but didn't want to just bolt them on, or use the factory style fiberglass panel that Shelby used.

Lucky for me just as I was getting ready to do this they started to repp the tail pan in steel for the guys like me that wanted to not use the "glass. It didn't take that much fitting to get it to look good on the Maverick.

Now it was time to start the body work.

I got lucky and fond a pair of NOS quarter panels for the car. And because these are not highly sought after vehicles NOS parts are still available pretty cheap comparably.

Since the factory fuel tank is unavailable for a Maverick I had to do something. I hated to cut a perfect floor pan, but decided my best option was to install a drop Mustang tank set up for fuel injection.

Here is my cutting of the floor and making the drop panel so the tank will sit level…..

Here si the final color scheme for the car. I want to run my version of the Ford Grabber stripe on the hood and something down the side, but I really want the stripes on the subtle side. And yet, not ghosted.

Something that doesn't have to be stared at to be seen, and yet not so bold that they will be seen from 100 yards away.

I recently picked up this 70 F100 for a good shop truck. Once the weather breaks this spring I plan on lowering it and adding disc brakes. Other than that this is a really good solid rig.

I wanted something a little more cool for a lower valance than what Ford had. While surfing pictures here on Lat G one day I saw a photo down low of someones 69 Camaro, and I thought the front valance had a cool look. I like the driving lights aspect and also thought that the V peak up the center matched perfect with the bumper and hood line.

So I bolted my Maverick valance down on a work table to keep its shape. In the can time I had purchased the 3 pieces for the 69 valance. I cut all the pieces up and welded everything together to make one part.

As you see here the only thing left of the Maverick valance is the wheel opening area and where it bolts up to the bottom of the fender.

This is how bad the bumpers fit from Ford. I did decide to tuck them in, but admit I didn't go to the extremes some of you guys do. I just wanted a tighter fit that I think the factory should have done…..

The bumpers have since been sent out to Advanced Chrome for their perfect work.

I decided I want to make the car a roller and get it on all fours before doing any final gapping. With that the car will need to come off the dolly and have all the new suspension installed first. I figured I would paint the engine compartment now so that I can install the drivetrain completely as well.

I decided that I wanted the engine compartment to be body color, but with a matte clear. I am painting the car using PPG from start to finish. The base coat is PPG's Envirobase water base system, and for the matte clear I used the Global D8115 pre matted clear for a uniform look.

Back at home I decided to remark everything and spray the cross members and "frame" rails and spray them a matte black. I know it's anybody car, but I kind of like how it gives it a look of being a subframe…..

I really like the color choices you've made with the car. I think you nailed your grabber stripe design, too. The black frame rail area should look good and help hide dirt or oil that would stick out like a sore thumb on the blue. Love the build. Keep up the great work! Thanks for sharing the pictures.

With only a couple comments to date I was wondering if this project wasn't the type that anyone here would care much about. I don't need the pat on the back, but I do know most of you lean towards the performance pro touring style and so far I haven't shown anything in that area other than body work.

In the end it still will not be anywhere near what most of you guys are building. I am just trying to humbly build a cool little light weight car with good performance and handling in mind.

I am doing this entire car myself. To date the only thing I haven't done with my own two hands was to have the transmission built by a friend. At the end the only other thing will be the interior too, that just isn't my thing.

Thanks again,
Glenn

I know I have brought you all through this pretty quick, considering that the project started in 2009 and we are almost up to date. Remember, this is a side thing and has to be done in between side jobs to fund this one.

Here is the car back on my lift and off that dolly for the first time in 4 years! Now I start to install all the suspension.

The rear is just an 8". I know, i'm crazy for not using a 9", but I got the rear for free and came upon a fully rebuilt center section with a posi 3.80 gear set. At the time it just seemed the right way to go. Of course in hind site I wish I went with a 9', and also wish I had mini tubbed it too.

See also below brand new rear springs, and Cal-Trac bars as well as the 13" brakes along with the 18x8 Billet Specialties wheels.

All that brings us to this point, the car on the ground on its own four wheels for the first time in nearly 5 years. For me this was monumental. I was in love seeing it on the ground and being able to stand back and check out the fruits of all the labor.

Nice job.

Thanks, as a painter color is everything. I played for a while with different shades and fell in love with this.

Thanks. Clearly when people think of a Maverick this isn't what they picture. When done and I roll into a show or wherever I am I want to make people stop and reconsider what a Maverick could be. I think that is the biggest reason for liking this car, it's an underdog. Everyone expects a 69 Camaro to be bad ass, no one expects a Maverick to be even remotely cool.

Those outside shots had to feel awesome!

It sure was, the first time on the ground outside in years. I was like a kid on Christmas that just got a new bike. I was ear to ear grin walking around it for a while. Left it right there for a few hours just so every time I went outside I could check it out more!

I have had everything on this car fitted up a couple times so that after paint I know it will all just bolt together as it should. Here is one more time of that, the taillights and the fuel filler I found.

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii273/hotrod-1947/IMG_1591_zps95cdf0cd.jpg (http://s266.photobucket.com/user/hotrod-1947/media/IMG_1591_zps95cdf0cd.jpg.html)

The fuel filler was another issue for me. I really wanted something more cool than a regular gas cap, but the raised area on this rear tail pan was just over 4" across. It didn't leave me with many options. As a life long hot rodder I pay attention to the street rod market and was fortunate enough that Alan Johnson had designed and was selling his Timeless Tradiational line of hot rod parts. This flip top fuel filler is part of that line. It is exactly the size I needed, and the quality is second to none. Investment cast and show polished stainless steel, it is a thing of beauty.

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii273/hotrod-1947/IMG_1593_zpsc4abb593.jpg (http://s266.photobucket.com/user/hotrod-1947/media/IMG_1593_zpsc4abb593.jpg.html)

While looking at the rest of the car I knew I couldn't leave the rear pan stock. So on the lift I started to play with some ideas I have seen here on Lat-G. I made cut outs for the exhaust tips and created the indented/beveled reveal that will surround the area. While at it I welded and molded the pan onto the car for a cleaner look.

And now the power plant. Compared to what 99% of you all this is probably so mundane it isn't funny, but I am working with what I have both in talent and in money.

I found a donor 89 Mustang GT that my brother in law wanted some parts off of as he was building a Factory Five Cobra. The engine and trans were high mileage but in great running shape and with great oil pressure at all cylinders.

So I blew the 5.0 apart and checked it out, and what I found amazed me. Clearly the car had been well taken care of. Everything internally was super clean. I sent it out to be checked and we found that with 190k on it, the cylinders were so clean they only had to be honed out a little. The crank was turned ten thousandths.

I did replace the heads with GT40P heads an swapped in Ford's E cam. At some pint I wasn't to put injection on it, and will likely go with something long the lines of MSD's Atomic EFI, or FAST etc. but for now I am just wanting it up and running and on the street, so the carb was the easy way to go until funds for the EFI come around.

I know this probably has way more bling that what a lot of guys may like. I just decided that with the matte finish paint in the engine compartment that the engine would really Pop looking like this.

I have never been a big fan of the way the Ford motors have the dizzy up front which leads to plug wires draped all over the place. So for me I decided to go with Compu-Tronix distibutorless ignition. There is that one cable off of it that runs to two different coil packs that will mont on the firewall. From there the plug wires can be routed nice and cleanly.

I also sent out the Ford AOD trans that had been attached to this same engine for a rebuild. It should now be good for up to 500hp.

A few days later when the weather cooperated I was able to push it back outside and see how it looks assembled.

I Like it!!!

I also took some time to play with stripe ideas. My original plan was a Boss 302 hockey stick style stripe. But as I have been building this car that design has been used over and over agin, even on new cars. Ford is even using it now on the new trucks, doesn't make it very original at all now does it?!

So here I am playing with a stripe design somewhat reminiscent of the the Must GT/Shelby's had. I of course don;t want to copy that, so I have not only extended them from the front valance all the way into the rear quarters.

The hood will also have my take on the factory Grabber stripe seen here in tape. I plan on also running them up onto the top of the dash as well just for the sake of doing it.

Unsure if I will go with one solid stripe like this first one, or on the second U shape like seen below.

This now brings us completely up to date. My hope was to finish up the body work and get it painted this winter, but since I haven't been in the garage since Christmas I can see that isn;t going to happen. I have been sick for a month with a cold that turned into a major case of Bronchitis. I am just now getting better. Hopefully color soon.

Any thoughts on my build? I like to hear what you guys think, both the good and the bad. I know this may not be the style or type of build most of you would do. It's just my take on a "what if" someone really decided to fine tune the unloved Maverick.

Thanks for following along.

This is a great looking build. Love this car.
Have one small comment you may want to take into consideration.
I would suggest you smooth the top bar of the rad support if you have not already done so.
Ask me how I know. I missed a small detail like this on my car and it looks me right in the face every time I open the hood.

Good luck and looking forward to seeing the completed car.

allot of attention to detail. I hot rodded a 70 once but was unable to complete it due to a divorce.

I hope you dont mind but I would love to copy your inner fender design on my Daughters 63 Fairlane. You are correct the R&C panels leave allot to be desired.

Great build..I like the fact that you have focused on getting the driveline completed and not going major over kill on big dollar parts. I know there are some things that you would like to have done differently, but that is what are builds are for, there a ever changing process.

I think that when you are on the road driving and enjoying what you accomplished so far, the reward from that is what some never feel. Remember, there is always the 2.0 2.5.3.0 and on, plus it will give you some behind the wheel evaluation on what you want to change and move up on, keep up the great work. I had a 71 Maverick back 30 years ago, fun and aggressive cars to work on.

Funny thing is I didn't give that a ton of thought until I was painting it. I do plan on making a close out panel and hope that hides the top rail. If not, I will smooth it out and reshoot just that area. Good eye!

I may have missed it but where did the mirrors come from?

The mirrors are from Vision Concepts. The stalk of the mirror has plenty of meat on it to shape and fit most any door as well as adjust for height.

Thanks for the compliments pin my car.

I got some parts painted today. Front spoiler, valance and the stone guard. PPG Envirobase (water) base coat and EC530 clear. These parts will get sanded down and I will flow coat them with ceramic clear for stone chip resistance being that they are so low on the front.

Then in early November I got this picture sent to me

It may seem insignificant to you, but to me it was the most amazing picture I had ever seen. For 8 long years I had been looking for this car, you see back in 1986 my dad and I bought and built it as our first project. All the others before that were his, I was just his sidekick. I drove this car to my senior high school prom, seen here in 1987.

We sold the car in the early 90's, and I regretted it right away. But, marriage, work, kids and other hot rods all took precedent for a while. Then I decided it was time, but a copy wouldn't due, I wanted that very car if I could find it. I posted all over the web with ics and details of it hoping....

Then one day in November I get a call from a guy that had just bought it and was looking for history on it when he found my searches. Long story short, he sold me the car.

coming off the truck after making its way home.....

Today I sanded all the parts down and after a ton of cleaning on them sprayed on the PPG D8113 matte finish clear. There is no sanding and buffing this clear otherwise the gloss comes back, so cleanliness is super important.

Here is the final product. I left them all in the booth and will grab it all tomorrow. Once home I will install the gauges in the bezel, all the associated switches in the lower panel and mount the dash pad. Can't wait to see it all together for the first time.

Brought the pieces home from the booth today and assembled them. New gauges and custom indicator panel all now installed in my home made steel gauge panel. In the lower dash panel I made i then installed the ignition switch with matching keys, wiper and headlight switch. I bolted on the black dash pad I have been saving for this project and then installed it all in the car.

I am so happy with the look and how it all came together. Its almost like I planned it that way!! Lol......

As of now I have not picked a wiring system. I bought these parts a few years ago when starting the fabrication on the dash as I needed to know what size holes to drill.

So many choices for harnesses I need to do some shopping and see what I want.

Id say keep the posts coming. Refreshing to see a car many would pass by or not want. You are doing a fantastic job, love the paint and the details. Heck, I never though anyone would make carbon fiber parts for this car.

With the lower valance painted, I sanded it all down and prepped it for the stripe design I am going to do on the car.

Here is it on the car getting the tape just right.....

sanded, taped and based the stripe color, which is only a few shades off of the body color.

Today I got the drivers door blocked and hung in the booth for final primer. Also both front fenders are now in final primer as well. In the next week I will finish up a couple minor spots on the passenger door and get it in final primer as well. Once all are that way I will do a final block sand and then seal, base and clear all four parts. Then it will be time to finish up a couple things on the body itself and get it to final prime too.

These parts should be in color in the next few weeks, then I hope to have the shell painted in September. Things are moving along nicely now.

So with all the parts painted, I am now woking on the body. I finished block sanding it and got it all masked for another round of primer. Hoping to be painting the shell Labor Day weekend, but not really sure I will make that date.

And while I have had some spare time, I painted the valve covers as well. I like something a little more detailed than just chrome or billet, this has become a bit of a thing for me as you will see in the last picture. I have done something like this on the last few cars I have owned.

Here is the new valve cover sanded and prepped for paint, then sealed grey, then based in the darker accent blue, then masked for the stripe followed by the blue that will be on the body. Once unmasked I cleared them and ran them thru a bake cycle. After that I sanded them all down and recleared them but this time used a matte clear. After another bake cycle I reassembled the billet trim. Looking forward to putting them on the engine soon.

Now in final primer I was able to put the wheels on and roll her out in the sun for a little bit of a natural bake cycle to aid in fully curing the primer. This coming weekend I will start the final sanding and prep for paint. Spraying the body over Labor Day weekend.

Thanks!

I am staying with the already painted CF hood. I picked up the new steel Grabber hood to see how close it would fit. Actually a real nice piece, just would take too much to gap as tight as I would expect, and already have with the other hood.

Ok, so it has been a very eventful week for me and my project!!

On Monday morning I loaded it up into a friends trailer and brought it to the booth. It took me 7 hours to fully mask it off. Lots of work for a car that the engine compartment and underside are already painted. Even in a down draft booth I wanted to keep the overspray at a minimum.

Here is it about to go in the trailer.....

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii273/hotrod-1947/IMG_1450_zpsuvtcfbxf.jpg (http://s266.photobucket.com/user/hotrod-1947/media/IMG_1450_zpsuvtcfbxf.jpg.html)

And now in the booth on jack stands all masked up. A small fortune was spent on masking tape and plastic sheeting. Thank you 3M for the generous donation of products!!

Funny how much darker the color looks in the booth for some reason. It really is a much brighter color than it shows here.

In any case, at this point I bagged the car and prepared it to spray the filler panel above the package tray. Grey sealer, black base and then matte clear.

after that dried I unmasked it, put the wheels back on and dropped it off of the jack stands. It was raining here today so didn't get it outside. Tomorrow is supposed to be nice, so I am bringing the truck and trailer to bring it home. Pics of it outside will come later this weekend.

This weekend was spent getting the interior sheetmetal prepped and black DP90 epoxied. Something I should have done a long time ago, but just kept putting it off until now. While I let it sit and fully cure, I tackled a few other things that needed to be done before I Dynamat the floors.

I started the day with figuring out where to mount to battery box and fuel vent from II Much Fabrication. I am happy with the placement.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii273/hotrod-1947/IMG_1544_zpslckkcy7t.jpg (http://s266.photobucket.com/user/hotrod-1947/media/IMG_1544_zpslckkcy7t.jpg.html)

After that was done, I drilled the holes and mounted the wire harness pass thru I am going to be using. Something a little cleaner looking than a regular grommet.

Then I took care of drilling the holes and mounting the heater hose barbs. I had welded up the holes in the firewall where the factory hose would have gone. I will now be running the hoses thru the finer well and then into the cowl from the wheel side of the apron.

Also, mounted the Lokar shifter. I had drilled the holes for this a few years ago when the seats were in the car. Now i needed to reinstall the shifter so I can locate the console I will be running. I need to fab up mounting tabs for the console, and the shifter will locate where everything else mounts.

So today was an incredible day for me. After all these years of working away on the car I was able to, with the help of my wife, hang all the sheet metal parts. After that I bolted the taillights, fuel filler, grille and headlight bezels on. I did all this to make sure everything still fit as I had planned. It is amazing that no matter how many times you assemble and test fit it all when in primer, the second you take it apart for paint, boom, it does'y fit right anymore.

I am happy to report that other than a couple extremely minor tweaks everything still looks great!

The first, and my most cherished picture is my daughters reaction to seeing it outside when she got home from horseback riding today. I already had it outside, the kid was bouncing in her seat as they came up the driveway. It was priceless. Good thing I have a year and a half before she gets her drivers license. I get to use it for a little while before turning it over to her.

So I finally finished a 1940 Ford side job I was doing and now I can get back to the Maverick. In between working on the 40, I did get some stuff done though. Today I spent some time on it as well.

Heading back to the booth next week for the stripes and to reclear the entire car to burry the stripes.

I used to work for a local paint supply jobber store and they sold this sound deadener, so I bought a bunch of it and used it on the inside of the Mav. It works quite well. I did the entire trunk floor, interior floor and firewall as well as the roof.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by this statement? As of now the colors have not changed on the car in a long time, the only real change from the rendering way back when is the stripe layout. I decided against the Boss stripe as it started to get too common on not only Mavericks but new Mustangs and F150's. Ford has been using it quite a bit lately and the design lost its uniqueness to me.

Thanks to all that are following and for the positive comments. Believe it when I tell you they all help when you are pushing through. The car heads back to the booth this Friday and will masked and have the stripes sprayed Monday if all goes well. Then pulled apart and all parts cleared separately.

This morning I arrived at the booth at 6:45am and starting laying color. I had a couple small spots I touched up and needed to spot them in, then did one full even coat on everything. After that it was time to lay out the stripes. All this took until around 4pm. At that point I called it quits and went home to spend some time with the family. Back at it again first thing to start laying the clear down when I am fresh and rested.

So today was another long day at the shop. Got the shell, doors and hood all cleared. After a bake I was able to get the wheels and tires back on and get it out of the booth to clear the fenders and trunk lid. Those are baking as I type this.

If you believe the weather men, we might be having a storm coming. So I am not sure how much will happen tomorrow. I will get the truck and trailer Friday and bring the car home.

Thanks again for all the feedback and comments. Always nice to hear people that appreciate what I'm doing.

I went in to the shop today to get a couple things done and then head home to spend time with my family. This is supposed to be a vacation week. But instead I have 50 hours and Just shy of $1000 in materials in this final booth session.

Today I masked up the trunk area, covered the car with plastic sheeting and painted the trunk hinges. I really wish Ford made these a "serviceable" item. But since they are not removable this is what I was relegated to do.

Then after unmasking everything but the interior, I reinstalled the hood and fenders. Nothing is lined up very critically, just enough to load it up into the trailer tomorrow and get it home. Then all the parts will come back off for final assembly of the drivetrain and upholstery.

I Really LOVE the subtlety of the two colors together for the stripes. At some angles they completely disappear, then Bam!, they are there as two different as any colors could be.

Today I went and got the car. I pushed it outside into daylight and was able to stand back, it was thrilling to say the least. Loaded it up in the trailer for the trip home. Once unloaded I took a few more pics before pushing it back into my backyard garage.

Later this weekend I will disassemble the fenders, hood and doors and start the sand and buff stage. Then on to installing the engine and trans. After that, final assembly of everything else.

The sanding and buffing process has begun. I pulled the fenders and hood off, then covered the window openings with plastic sheeting along with the engine compartment.

Started with 800 and went all the way up to 3000, then started buffing. So far very happy with the results. Roof, quarters and rear tail pan along with the rear valance are now done. I need to hit a couple small spots and then do the cowl.

I got the roof and both quarters all sanded and buffed. Now time to move on to some mechanical things. I bent up the stainless brake lines, got the heater box and inside heater hoses hooked up. Then I dropped the engine in place, what a moment! A little too much chrome for me, but the valve covers and air cleaner are not staying. I have a set of paint matched Billet Specialties covers to install later after all the fab/dirty work is done. Don't want to scratch them.

Then I got the car back off the floor and up on the Quick Lift ramps. Now I can install the transmission, run the fuel lines, get the driveshaft in etc. So much to do..........

This morning I mounted the brake pedal assembly. Need to do the throttle as well, but found where I have to modify the mount for my liking. I also mounted the seats one last time to make sure things were good just for drill. I am dropping them off tomorrow at the upholsterers and wanted to be 100% positive it all worked properly before I did that. Happy with the fitment, I had my daughter come out and sit to see how things adjust for her. This is one happy kid.

So I have started the wiring on the car. Definitely not my forte. I have some help from a good friend that has wired tons of hot rods, so all will be good.

I decided I couldn't live with the coil packs black. They stuck out like a sore thumb, so I took them back off and painted them body color with matte clear.

I started the plumbing of the heater lines from the engine to the fender well. I am using the stainless hose and ends from Gotta Show. Pretty nice stuff.

I installed the parts on the back of the car. Anyone that has been following along knows I pie cut the bumper ends and reshaped them. While not fitted to the new Pro Touring 3/16 gap, this is tons better than any factory Maverick. Love the look of that chrome from Advanced Chrome Plating in Tn. Also installed the trunk lock key and the stainless fuel filler from Johnson's Hot Rod Shop.

I had found a perfect set of NOS tinted glass for the car. Everything but the windshield, which is fine since it is available still. Here is the painted 1/4 window frames all painted and the glass urethaned into the frame.

I have 13" disc brakes at all four corners from Engineered Components Inc. They use all GM parts so if I ever have an issue while traveling everything can be sourced from any good parts store. Here is what the factory, very rough cast caliper is like from GM. No thanks, so I spent 2 hours per caliper smoothing them. Then when done I painted them all body color.

So its a freezing cold 20 degrees outside, and the heater in my shop isn't working. Made for a chilly day working on the car, but, I have to push through if I want to ever drive this thing.

Today I pulled all the front suspension back out of the car. When I installed it, I did so loosely and with out any grease or anti seize. I wanted to rip it back apart, make sure everything was lubed up properly, and put back together correctly this time around. I had done all that originally just to make the car a roller, but now as we are in final assembly mode, it was time to get it all set.

In doing so, I got the brakes installed for the last time. This is a set of 13" drilled and slotted rotors, and the calipers I smoothed and painted. I am LOVING the look!!

So there is a blizzard going on outside, and the CT Governor as issued a travel ban. So whats a guy to do? Walk out to the garage, turn the heat up and get to work!

Today was spent doing more mechanical assembly stuff. New valve covers are now installed. Matching air cleaner is stuck in transport, I will paint it over the weekend and install next week. Spark plug wires made and routed nice and neat. I made the transmission cooler lines and installed them. Also, because the electric fan was going to hit the snout of the water pump pulley, I had a friend bend me up a new one and offset the fan. Not optimal, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Been busy lately doing things that don't add up to much for an update. That and a weeks worth of travel for work make it difficult to get things done. So here is the latest with many mini updates in one.

I finally got the rear brakes installed and the cables run for the e brake.

Tank installed and all fuel lines hooked up. Just need to install the tank level float.

After getting the new front seat foams out of the box, my upholsterer and I were talking about how cool it would be to get another set and make it look like it has four bucket seats. So, of course I ordered another set right away. Here is a quick mock up of them in place.

After that, I had to finally make a upper radiator hose. when I installed the March Performance serp kit it made the stock V8 hose not work. I have tried in vain to find something that would work, but no luck. So, with the aid of some pieces I was able to tack all these individual steel tubing together. I will bring it to a friend and have it all tig welded, then smooth it out. Not sure if I will paint it or have it coated when done.

It came out nice, and I am happy with it. But I really just wanted a simple black rubber hose. It seems like nothing on this car has gone that way, not sure why I expected this hose to be any different.

Glenn,

Looking good!

How are you doing the fuel vent? I see the II Much vent can, but can you post pictures from the bottom?

I have been struggling to find a mounting location for my e-Stopp actuator. The location you mounted your e-stopp in the trunk has expanded my thoughts on mounting options.

Glad I could help, and possibly inspire. On a unibody car it is difficult to find a good location that is safe and out of the way. On my car this was the best option. In the end its just dead space anyway, so it worked out perfect!

Love to see the progression from the beginning. You have really done a lot to that car. I have done a lot of maintenance (https://www.chiltondiymanuals.com/repairmanuals/bmw/3%20series) myself and hope to do build soon. Thanks for the inspiration!

After getting the upper hose tacked and fitted to my liking, I had a friend tig weld it for me. I ground the welds and then had the hard decision as to what to do to it. In the end, I'm a paint guy, so paint it I did.

Looking more and more like a car every day!

Maverick's are notorious for not having a good place to mount front speakers. Since the aftermarket doesn't do custom kick panels, I made these.

I can't thank you enough for the positive comments. It has been a long road that is nearing completion, finally!

As a parent you know the drill, we do so much for them. My oldest just graduated from high school last weekend. She is ranked very high in her class, and did so well this year that she didn't have to take a single final exam. One of only a few seniors that did that well all year. The oldest likes the old cars, but it isn't her thing. She is into horseback riding, which of course led to buying one. Talk about a money pit. But, I have wasted far more on cars that she could imagine, so we do what we do. I justify it this way, in this day and age there is no better place than the equestrian center for teenage girls. They both have been riding for a long time now. There is not even one single person, child or adult, that I would't want my kids being around. On top of that, they have to work there, and its dirty work too. 3 times a week they both have to be there to feed all 30 horses, and every saturday morning, no matter the weather or holiday, they have to be there by 7:30am to muck all 30 stalls. They get paid for this work, and half comes to my wife and I to supplement the horse. Honestly, for me it isn't about the money, its about teaching them to earn it and that things don't come free. My younger daughter, the car girl, also rides the horse. But she LOVES the cars too! As she is just finishing her freshman year she has also proven she can handle what the school gives her.

My plan was to be have the Syracuse Nationals next month be the first show for the car. I figure since I have to be there working the PPG booth anyway, it would be a great show to bring the car out for the first time. Well, thats not gonna happen now. Do to some work travel, family, waiting on other people to do a couple things, I have missed my window at the upholstery shop. He couldn't wait any longer and had to take in the next car in line. So, this gives me time to button up a few things, send it out for exhaust, and sand and buff it again before he does his thing.

As for my daughter, well we may have hit a snag. It has occurred to me that I can't put normal passenger car insurance on this. I am going to have to get an appraisal and go with one of the specialty companies and an agreed value policy. I don't know of any that will allow a teenager to drive on those policies? If I can't find one, she will have to wait whatever the approved age is before taking the wheel. Bummed for sure...... But, I can't have all this time and money invested and insure it as a normal 1972 Maverick. If I did, then a flat tire might total it.

Time will tell. Keep watching!

The assembly continues........

As mentioned in the post just before this one, I missed my slot at the upholstery shop. Lucky for me I have a good guy that was still willing to help me move forward. Last Sunday he came to me and installed the headliner! Only took him 2 hours, and there isn't a flaw or wrinkle to be seen!

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii273/hotrod-1947/IMG_3616_zpsfx9ktdgn.jpg (http://s266.photobucket.com/user/hotrod-1947/media/IMG_3616_zpsfx9ktdgn.jpg.html)

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii273/hotrod-1947/IMG_3617_zpsde7kg9fh.jpg (http://s266.photobucket.com/user/hotrod-1947/media/IMG_3617_zpsde7kg9fh.jpg.html)

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii273/hotrod-1947/IMG_3618_zpseisj5p0r.jpg (http://s266.photobucket.com/user/hotrod-1947/media/IMG_3618_zpseisj5p0r.jpg.html)

Then I took the car off the Quick lift and got it on the ground. This is the first tie seeing it like this with the drivetrain in it and all painted. Exciting for me!

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii273/hotrod-1947/IMG_3638_zpsnodt9bon.jpg (http://s266.photobucket.com/user/hotrod-1947/media/IMG_3638_zpsnodt9bon.jpg.html)

Still very much unsure about the painted rad support. As a painter I like the extra effort it takes to color match everything. And who will be looking at the car from this angle anyway?! Still, I may end up painted it matte black. Time will tell.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii273/hotrod-1947/IMG_3640_zpsxbuy7oda.jpg (http://s266.photobucket.com/user/hotrod-1947/media/IMG_3640_zpsxbuy7oda.jpg.html)

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii273/hotrod-1947/IMG_3644_zpswl161ae9.jpg (http://s266.photobucket.com/user/hotrod-1947/media/IMG_3644_zpswl161ae9.jpg.html)

And the other night I installed the new windshield and NOS back glass by myself. Nerve wracking to do this alone, but it went well.

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii273/hotrod-1947/IMG_3659_zpsb0hllsca.jpg (http://s266.photobucket.com/user/hotrod-1947/media/IMG_3659_zpsb0hllsca.jpg.html)

And this has to be one of my favorite things. Now with the glass in, seeing the stripe continue through it and onto the dash. Lots of extra effort, but this is the detail I was so looking forward to seeing completed.

Thank you! I hope it lives up to the praise!!

I have a little wiring to do in the dash panel, wire the front turn signals. Then its time to kick it over and run it. Then off for exhaust and then upholstery. The goal, now that I am going to miss Syracuse, is to get it on the road in August to work the bugs out. Then bring it to Burlington, VT for the NSRA show up there.

So I have not been doing much on the car in the last few weeks. I am so incredibly disgusted with it right now its pretty hard to even look at! For the first time during this entire project I have been letting someone else work on the car in the hopes it would help me. Well, that didn't work as planned. The guy is a friend that has wired dozens if not 100 hot rods over the years. I don't know why now, or what has changed. But he is dragging this project out. Started wiring in early March, and it still isn't done! On top of that, look at this rats nest of wires!!!! So because of the delay I have missed my turn at the upholstery shop and that guy had to take the next car in line, understandably. So now I am to a point where I am about to rip all this out, buy a new harness and start over and just do it myself. Such ugliness I can't take it.

This looks like an 8 year old did it.

One step forward, nine steps back.........

Take a break with the family this weekend, get a new perspective.

Maybe your daughter is meticulous and would help sort that mess out? I know sometimes when i get disgusted my Kasey will help with her car on some of the crap and I am amazed I didn't ask sooner.

good luck on whatever you decide, you've gone too far to get disgusted now...

I have finally gotten far enough in the build to get the car out for exhaust! I am a few months behind schedule as I had really wanted to have the car at the Suracuse Nationals in early July. Clearly that didn't happen. Oh well, it will be done when its done I guess.

Here is the car peaking out into the sun for the first time since last summer when I painted it. Now its a car!

New 2.5" steel exhaust custom bent. Very tight to the floor and neatly done. Flow master 40's on there too. I will be taking this all off this fall and have it HPC coated.

Todays project was to get the hood all sanded and buffed and finally installed. Hopefully this will not come back off. Its so cool seeing it come together one part at a time. Ran out of time and still need to do some minor adjustments for the gaps, but i'm happy with it for now!

Now with the car running I have grown tired of sitting on the floor to move it or whatever else I needed to do. So today I slid the carpet in and installed the freshly upholstered driver seat. I am still waiting my turn in line at the upholstery shop, should be in there somewhere towards the end of September. Can't wait!!!

The wiring has been neatened up somewhat. I do plan on rewiring the car, most likely this winter. I was supposed to go to upholstery in May, but because of the wiring delay now can't get in until end of September. So I don't want to do anything now to push that back any further.

The "friend" that helped me with the wiring doesn't see anything wrong with it or the fact that he singlehandedly cost me to lose the entire season with the car.

In the end the only thing he did, besides make a huge mess, was the gauge panel and engine compartment. I did all the lights front and rear, the heater, wipers, stereo etc, etc.

There probably won't be anything more significant to share after this until it goes to upholstery. So for now, I hope you enjoy this.

I had the anodizing stripped off the hood lip molding and had it show polished, same with the headlight bezels. I then painted the underside of the hood lip molding body color and matte clear. This is unlike all other Mavericks, but I liked how it makes the molding appear thinner, and seems to disappear on the underside of the hood.

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii273/hotrod-1947/IMG_4117_zpsqnderjqs.jpg (http://s266.photobucket.com/user/hotrod-1947/media/IMG_4117_zpsqnderjqs.jpg.html)

Normally on Maverick headlight bezels the painted area is either black or silver. For me I wanted a little more of a unique look and painted them body color. I am in love with the look!

So the exhaust is now done and the car runs. I have installed the carpet and a seat, so the next step was to venture out of the driveway and go for a cruise. A short one though. Just across the street from me is a horse shoe shaped street, so I pulled out of my driveway and just down the road, then around the loop. Senses were running very high, but she ran well, shifted through the gears and everything worked as it should. I took a video, but with Photobucket being what it is I can't seem to share it, so you will have to settle for a few pictures.

The first picture of it outside and not in my driveway!!!

First off, thank you all for the very positive comments! I really do appreciate it.

Little by little I have been venturing out more with the car. Yesterday I went for a ten mile cruise, and so far all is good! My wife caught me pulling up on my return home.

So after feeling more comfortable with it, today I took it to a local cruise in. It was incredible being able to finally see how people reacted to it. I got some great feedback even though it isn't 100% complete. The car now has about 25 miles on it. Next weekend it heads off for upholstery finally.

The car is at the upholstery shop getting done. Rear package shelf is now covered and installed. Also, wrapped the extensions that go from package shelf to the headliner. These are normally just painted steel pieces.

While at it I wanted more than just the normal back seat panels that are textured plastic, so he wrapped them in the same black material and added the houndstooth as well. I have yet to see anyone ever do this on a Maverick.

And here is the beginning of the back seat. I bought a second set of front bucket seat foams. We are using them to make a bench seat that will have the same contouring as the front seats.

More on this to come....

Incredible work. As great as this build is, I'd love to see more of the 55.

Here are a couple pictures of the 55. In case you didn't read the whole thread I will tell you that this is the same 55 Bel Air that I built as a senior in high school in 1987 with my dad. I even drove it to my senior prom. We sold the car in 1990-1 regrettably. It was always the one that got away for me. So in 2006ish I started looking for it. It took until the fall of 2015, but I finally found it in Florida. The drivetrain had been changed, but the entire body, paint, pinstriping and interior are 100% the same as we did 30 years ago! I probably had a better chance of winning Lotto than finding the very same car in almost the exact condition as when we sold it. It will NEVER leave my possession again I can assure you of that.

The car was built with an early 60's ild custom style to it.

Here is on the way to prom in 1987......

Thanks, and I agree, I LOVE the houndstooth. I don't remember when or how it came to me. But at least 5 years ago I know exactly what materials I wanted for this interior. Back seats are being sewn now, so more pics to come soon!

Progress on the interior has been slow, but steady. Door panels are now installed for the last time. All new reproduction arm rests and handle are being used as well as the power window switches from for the windows. No more cranks! We decided to have the pleats spread out as they go towards the rear of the car, just something a little different.

Rear seat back is getting there too. Not done here, just a sample. This should be done Monday then he will start covering the base.

Back seat is now done. I love these pictures, but have to say this all looks sooooo much better in person. IN the car, in the shop it just doesn't photograph that well.

Only thing left now is the kick panels and center console. Then onto the trunk.......

In an effort to make the back seat look as if it belonged in the car to begin with, the side panels were recontoured to match the side of the rear seat. The side panel normally go straight up top to bottom. That matched the factory rear bench. But because my new seat has a tapered contour, my upholstery guy built up the side panels to match the seat. Making it look as though it came that way from factory. The first picture illustrates where he added to the side panels.

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii273/hotrod-1947/IMG_4242_zpsdrllygnn.jpg (http://s266.photobucket.com/user/hotrod-1947/media/IMG_4242_zpsdrllygnn.jpg.html)

This second picture shows it now upholstered and how it flows as though originally made this way from Ford.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii273/hotrod-1947/IMG_4342_zpsajri6df0.jpg (http://s266.photobucket.com/user/hotrod-1947/media/IMG_4342_zpsajri6df0.jpg.html)

And here is the back seat 100% completed. By using a second set of front bucket seat foams he was able to make the rear bench look exactly as the fronts with all the bolsters and contours. Even the knee bolster is in place just like the front seats!

Wow!! That is a huge compliment. Suggesting it enough to be at SEMA is humbling. I didn't built this to be a Ridler winner or anything like that. But we all know that there are certain things, that if we achieve are monumental to us car guys. SEMA would be one of them for me. No question. I would have zero idea how to get connected with anyone to get that done, other than PPG of course. But they usually have "pro" builders cars in their booth, not employees.

Trunk is now done! Here is the closeout panel that hides the battery. We added some houndstooth here as well, and it has the same staggered design as what is on the doors. Only thing left to do is bolt in the front bucket seats and she is all done. I am picking the car up Friday morning! Can't wait to get it outside and be able to get some pictures in better lighting.

I picked up the car from the interior shop today. I am so happy with the final outcome, it looks exactly as I had envisioned. I love how much the back seat matches the front.

I just read through your maverick build. WOW, that car is amazing. You have some bad-ass skills. I remember these cars from back when I was growing up, a few friends had them. For sure, you, your skills and your car belong at sema.
The only thing I see empty is the passenger side dash is bare, do you have any plans for that? maybe you reserved that space for all the awards???:king:

I have made a list of vendors used. I will post them up and would be curious to see which ones you might think would be worth approaching. Thanks for all the continued love of the project!!

Thanks for reading it all. Its been a long road, but very fulfilling. The early Mavericks never had a glove box, so that smooth out area is factory like that. As of right now I have no plans of adding anything to the area.

Since you suggested I figure out the list of companies used, I started putting it all down and it isn't as big as most of you use.

There are likely a few more I am missing, but this is the majority of it off the top of my head. Not really a lot there to choose from to get me to SEMA in my eyes.

But, here goes:

Fesler, driving lights
Ring Brothers, door handles
E-Stopp, electric E brake
BFG, tires
Advanced Plating, chrome work
Engineered Components Inc, disc brakes
Dynacorn, rear tail pan and tail lights
Maverickman Carbon Fiber Products, hood and trunk
Lokar, shifter, throttle cables, trans cables
Billet Specialties, rims, valve covers, air cleaner
Gotta Show Products, trans, power steering and heater lines
Champion, radiator
Ford Motorsport, headers, driveshaft
Edelbrock, intake, carb
Spoilers by Randy, front spoiler
March Performance, Serpentine set up
Compu-Tronix, distributor-less ignition
Hagen Hot Rod, flush side lights
Aeromotive, fuel pressure regulator
Juliano's Hot Rods, Steering wheel
New Vintage, Gauges and gear indicator panel
PPG, paint
3M, sand paper and seam sealers
Evercoat, body fillers
Vision Concepts, outside door mirrors
TMI, replacement seat foams
Ididit, steering column
Rod & Custom Motorsports, Front suspension

A friend just shared with me that there is an article written and posted on Hotrod Hotline about my car. I was pretty shocked to hear that as I had not been contacted by anyone about writing such an article. All the info and pictures were taken from either here on PT.com or Lat-g.com. So the guy, Tommy Parry, is on one of the two sites.

While I do appreciate the article and notoriety it brings, I am disturbed by the last paragraph and where the "writer" decided to take liberty and say that the build put my "marriage on the rocks'. This could not be further from the truth in any regard, my wife loves my cars and what I do with them. She is wholly supportive in what I do and how I do it. Never once a debate on the amount of time or money invested. Largely because the money does not come from our "house" money. My paycheck goes to everything house/family related. My car money comes from doing side work. Thats why it took seven years to build this car.

So whoever you are Tommy Parry, I didn't appreciate your added drama into the article on my car.

Glenn, I've been in a similar situation in the past. I hope the author meant no harm but in my opinion it is pretty sleazy to submit an article for publication without even speaking with the source. Especially when the author completely fabricates at least one part of the story to add drama. I wonder if you can email their site and have the article rewritten or at least the last paragraph removed for accuracy's sake.

I did see an email address ([email protected]) on the site that may be a good start.

Best of luck.

I have already emailed them and await a response. I don't wish for it the entire article to be removed, just the one line.

What sucks is that no one ever even reached out to me to ask if I was cool with it. I can tell he just stole all the content from one of the two forums as he only has be listed as Glenn, no last name in the article or the photo credits. Just Glenn.

I have been incredibly sick for several months now and haven't had the energy or will to work on the car since coming home from the upholstery shop. Now starting to feel human again, although still not 100%, I ventured out to the garage today to play a little.

I want to make a close out panel for the font grill/rad support area. Today I made up a template in posterboard. I don't have a large enough piece of metal on hand, but just enough to make up one half. I am going to remake it out of one large pice, but wanted to go ahead and make the half just to test out how it will mount and how it will fit. So far I am very happy with its results.

Here the beginning of the part. Hope to get the full one pice made this week. Then I will trim and fit it, then paint ithttps://i.hmjimg.com/images/2018/01/27/IMG_4518.md.jpg (https://www.hostmyjunk.com/image/X38CK)

Agreed, two would be easier. That was my original plan, but then thought I would try and see if I could make it in one. Luckily, if I do it in two, the split would be all of a half inch right in front of that latch support.

Good question, I asked myself the same thing at first. On that test panel I bent it around a pipe. Worked ok, only thing I would do different on the final piece would be to clamp it down with a bar or something so that it bends uniformly.

A couple hours today in the garage. Definite therapy session! I remade the left side, then made the right one. Tomorrow I am running to a friends with a bead roller and put a couple lines in it for help strengthen it and for looks. Then I will detail the edges and get it ready for paint. Very happy with the end results.

I haven't had much time to work on the car lately. I have been plugging away with the closeout panels. The first set instead of doing a bead roll it was decided to do a tapered size dimple die holes. Well, with some miscommunication between me and my friend with the DD, he stamped them the wrong way, from bottom up! Lol.....

So I ended up having to make another set, I now have them in primer and as you see here they being final test fit before painting. I ended up deciding against any holes or bead rolls and letting them just be simple and clean.

SEMA...... I have been asked, and even urged by some of you to try and get the car to SEMA. I got a call last week from a vendor whose products I use. I know the area rep very well. Apparently my car has been talked about/shown to their marketing department and I am on a short list of vehicles being considered to be used in their booth. I'm not sure how likely it will be to actually happen, but I am honored and happy to be in the running with my little ol Maverick!

I have been plugging away doing final details on the car. The closeout panel is now done and painted. Here it is just sitting on place, will probably be the last thing I bolt on after a good detailing of the entire car.

And then I got to looking at the engine compartment. I had taken the time to make and paint the upper radiator hose, but then had these ugly PCV hose and radiator overflow hoses. So what's a paint guy to do? Make up step lines and paint detail them as well.

Here is some before, and then the after:

Thanks! I'm glad to inspire others. These little things took almost no time to make with some tubing and a bender, then paint. Something I hadn't given thought to until this week when suddenly it hit me. Hah hour later they were both made, then painted at work.

I fully expect to find more at some point, but I hope not. This little car was supposed to be a $5k driver with fresh paint and a used engine has gone off the rails. I'm hoping the bleeding stops soon and once the New England weather breaks I get to start using it finally.

My plan for the last year was to attend the Boston World of Wheels as the cars debut. I have been working hard and am so close it isn;t funny. The car is ready, but I'm not sure I am. Set up is this coming Thursday, and thankfully I have awesome friends that have volunteered to get the car there and set it as well as my display up. Also repeat the same Sunday night to break it all down. This is two hours form my home, so its a lot to ask of friends.

My issue, is my health. I am having breathing/lung related issues for months now. I was just diagnosed with pneumonia for the third time in 3 months, and the fourth time since October! I have barely enough energy to walk from one end of my house to another without running out of breath. So, while I could get the car there, I'm not sure I could handle the show physically. I am so mentally bummed right now. I am going to give it until Monday afternoon before making the ultimate decision to pull out of the event, call the promotor and cancel hotel rooms. I am now on my 4th round of Prednisone and antibiotics since January 1st, and the 6th round since mid October! Doc doesn't seem to have a clue, and I am so sick and tired of being sick and tired.

In between these bouts is when I have had time to do some of these small details, but this last week or so has been nearly impossible. It took me two hours just to bolt these panels in for a lack of energy. And yet I am normally a healthy gym going just turned 49 year old. Unreal.

Well, here are the closeout panels fully installed. I'm very happy with the fit, finish and overall look of them. Exactly what I was hoping/expecting them to be.

Well......

With the help of great friends and the support of an awesome wife and two amazing daughters.... I made it to the show! For anyone that has been following along you know that I have been building towards and planning on getting this project done in time for its debut, for lack of a better term, at the Boston World of Wheels ISCA show. Through health issues that have been plaguing me for months, bad weather predictions and just an overall sense of blah. I did it. My wife kept pushing me to get the car there and reach my goal. She knows how hard I have worked and how long I have been planning on this show. To have missed it would have been heartbreaking. She is a trooper and fully supports all my car related interests. Thank heavens for that. When not feeling up to snuff and on the verge of not going, she kept pushing me, as well as 3 of my good friends that took time out of their lives and traveled the two hours to Boston to help me get in the show and set up the display. Great friends = Priceless.

Now keep in mind, this car was not built to be a Show Car. It was built to drive, and drive it I will. But, being fresh I wanted to show it off. This may very well be the first and last indoor show it ever does.

So, how did it go you ask? Well, I was absolutely blown away by the response the car got from spectators, participants and even the judges that took the time to check it out, ask questions and showed appreciation for what I did.

At the end of the show and the awards ceremony I took home five different awards.

First in class.
Outstanding Custom.
Outstanding Undercarriage.
Outstanding Display.

And the one I will forever cherish the most....

The Master Builder Award. This goes to the best car that was built with little to no outside help. Meaning, home built.

I walked out of the awards ceremony stunned to say the least. Here are some pics of it at the show.

The weather has finally changed form cold winter and snow, followed by lots of rain, into nice cruising weather. I now have almost 200 miles on the car and so far she is running great. I have a slight leak in the power steering line, and a little vibration in the driveline that needs to get figured out. But all in all for a complete nut and bolt built I am very happy with how things are going.

Yesterday I had John Jackson of Notstock Photography stop by and shoot my car. I wanted some killer photos of the car and I LOVE his style. this is just a sampling of what he did last night. He texted me these, waiting for the rest in an email.

I hope you dig them as much as I do.
