If people want a V6 fine, but at least make a V8 an option on these 2 halo vehicles, extra certification costs or not.
At the very same time they were debuting the V6 Ford GT & Raptor, they tweeted this out...

Why didn't this thing get the GT350s V8 with hair driers? Lame. This thing is gonna get sawed off by way too many cars to defend that engine choice- namely Z06s, GTRs, and Vipers. Forget bulls, horses, and angry things from Germany. I understand that all of them will be bought by guys who iron their jeans, but for a guy like me half the fun is the sound. This one's a miss.

The Porsche 911 is within the Corvette's performance capabilities with a 6. I'm interested to see the real world performance numbers. I think they did a great job styling wise making something with the blue oval look exotic.

I love this thing, and I understand they put a 3.5L Ecoboost because they want to race the 4.0L category in LeMans. They'd be crazy not to offer a v8!
Also, Tag Juechter, chief Corvette engineer, did say that the production version of the GT will have to look quite a bit different to meet crash standards. First of all, it will need bumpers.

Curious why he thinks that. The previous generation Ford GT looked almost identical to it's concept and didn't have significantly larger bumpers or anything.

I wouldn't at all be surprised if they offered a V8 version as well - like how the R8 comes with either the V8 or the V10. 600 HP for a flagship supercar is somewhat "average" considering what's available now.

Edgy is right.
Don't like the looks or the V6 "twin turbo". Like others have posted earlier,...they should have had an option if you wanted the V8. Same goes for the 2016/2017 Raptor. I LOVE the way the Raptor looks, but a V6?!? No thanks.
I read an article yesterday saying that because of EPA and CAFE standards Ford's lineup will be v8 free by like 2018. Including all trucks and top of the line Mustangs as well.
Don't blame Ford. Blame the out of control EPA/government.

The flat plane v8 would be cool but the 3.5 ecoboost is probably a better choice from a performance/weight standpoint. It is supposed to have over 600hp and the smaller engine I am sure lent itself to better packaging in the overall design. If the headers are properly configured it could still have a very mean exhaust note. My guess is that with simple tunes these things will be putting 700-800 to the wheels no problem. I am glad they skipped all the gimmicky hybrid crap and just went for a proper rear drive, mid engine platform. Keep it light and powerful. If is it around $150k it will be a bargain.

Looking at the rear of the car, it seems that with the "airflow gaps" for aero made the engine compartment more narrow than the previous GT. Would this be the reason for the 6 cylinder configuration? Also, that Ford V8 is as wide as an older HEMI. Would love to see where the turbos are stashed.

I think a lot of people thrown by the styling were expecting more of an Mk1 GT40 shape. When I first saw pictures I scratched my head a little bit, especially over the cars proportions. Then this dawned on me:
http://www.supercars.net/gallery/119513/2841/1036073.jpg
http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/images/gallery/erba2012/29575.jpg
The road-going Mk3 GT40 suffered from the same issue. Clearly part of the GT40 bloodline but oddly proportioned. Compared to the Mk1/Mk2 the Mk3 looks "too long" due to lengthened rear and front overhangs as well as elongated headlights. Looking at the '05/'06 GT next to the '17 GT yields the same effect, for me at least. As Ford has moved away from full-blown retro with the Mustang, I wonder if the new GT took some subtle queues from the Mk3 as a way of evolving GT as a whole.

I see the new GT as a road version of this with GT40 styling cues. The airfoils on the side of the GT disguise the teardrop shape some.

I don't - The Ford DP bodies look horrible compared to the Corvettes. They are almost Spec-cars with different front end treatments. I always thought the Ford DP should have looked like a GT40 Type IV.
Remember that next Year Ganassi is giving up the DP's to run a FGT in a lower class & will be taking it to LeMans
