Anyone signed up or planning on attending? I plan on driving down and helping where I can. Not sure they'll run the full course but it'll be a good time either way!

I just checked in with Jimi to see whether he thinks he'll have enough room in the paddock for my rig. If he does - then I'm going to roll over there just to harass the hell out of everyone. That's weather permitting of course. I'm not a big fan of rolling the rig in snow on mountain passes - but I'm hoping we're heading into spring like conditions by then.

I need to get the Mustang back to Sutton for some touchup work before NorCal Shelby in May anyway... this would give me an excuse to roll. Like I need one. LOL

New edit: Oh, it's the USCA thing. I had fun volunteering at the Laguna Seca event last year. I may go out to watch the autocross part--I'm interested to see where they'll put it. Otherwise, I'll save my dollars for some regular track days.

Who is putting on the event in February? I can't seem to find a listing at Thunderhill for any of the main track day groups. Trackmasters isn't even listing prices yet, and none of the others seem to have much going until March.

I'm trying to hold off until March, but I may be inclined to cheat on the last day of February...

With that in mind, one should always expect a good soaking in northern CA in February. It's kind of a thing...

Edit: I found the Chump Car listing. Nope...

Irony: $1000.00 race fee for a series that prides itself on junk cars...

Awesomeness: You can rent Thunderhill all for yourself in January ("off-peak times") for a $1000.00...

USCA.... their first event of the year.

See if you can pull Maier away from the business long enough to come play, Thunderhill is a great place to pick up parts!

Greg, Jimi said he's got plenty of room for you....just south of the main gate!:mock:

We're headed down from the Seattle area Friday morning and should be rolling in right around dinner time. Anybody know if we have access to the track on Friday night?

Greg, did Jimi find you a spot on the grounds or will you be out front? It'd be nice to use the roof top again to get a birds eye view for Sunday.

Looks to be a good size turn out so far. Quite a few non GM and a handful of 2nd gen camaros which is cool. Hanging at the track, seeing friends and picking up more cool parts...what more could you want?

Be safe going in to turn 1 people. Its an off camber short sweeper and you may enter at a high rate of speed since its at the end of a fairly long straight. If you enter incorrectly say by letting your foot off the throttle suddenly then turning you will lighten up the rear end and possibly spin. Especially a concern with 200 tw tires.

Come up on T1 carefully by hugging the k rail on the right side and then steady turn in aiming for and touching the inside curb mid late apex.

When approaching T1 keep a look out on the opposite side of the k rail where cars typically enter the track. Best time to look for cars entering track is when you are going down the straight and begin viewing the start/finish tower.

I'm sure the flaggers and pre-grid folk will be in full communication but just something to be aware of.

Have fun and keep the shiny side up

Be safe going in to turn 1 people.

I saw a Porsche go off track at the exit of T1 a few years back. I'm sure he gave the corner worker quite the scare when the car hit the tire barrier sideways with enough force to send the car airborne. Turn 8 is another one to be weary of, the high-speed left-hand kink. Not a difficult turn, but running too wide on exit will have you mowing grass until you scrub off speed.

You only run wide there on exit if you missed the apex.... people get lazy... and they'll pay for it when they do.

The other one that will get people is T9 when they freak out and do a big lift before going over the blind crest... LOL

Or T3 -- when they enter too hot and lift on the off camber....

This is going to be GREAT!!

EVERYONE SHOULD READ THE TRACK PRIMER AVAILABLE TO ALL VIA THE TRACK WEBSITE. It's a great track -- and is very safe because there's not much to hit ---- if you DO go off track.

Turn 1
If for some reason you are going to go off do not
pull it back quickly or turn hard... they rolled two
new subaru's on the same weekend a bunch of
years back trying do that exact thing

Like our Camaro buddy says get the Apex right and
you should be able to ease thru in 4th.. then pin it
down to turn 2 for hard braking and a downshift

Car did fair with the new set up. I can no longer outdrive the car, it out drove me. The cure, more saddle time. Fried something in the clutch assembly though, doing something weird, at the end of the main stretch, after turn one, it felt like the clutch was slipping (motor revs with nothing getting transfered to the wheels, like a slipping clutch) but then it would come back at turns 4-5 and be fine until the next time i went down the main straight. The clutch also became hard to push in during that weird time, then it was fine....thinking it may be throwout bearing related....

What clutch master Mike? Stock 4th gen? You may need a drill out and a larger hose, then get the ait out. Common.

Left T-Hill at 6 pm and 398 miles later pulled in the driveway at 11:44 pm.........Dogs loved, truck's unloaded, celebratory whiskey is poured.......time to start uploading photos.

What a great energy packed weekend!

Jimi Day and his crew have really created something special IMO. The venues are exceptional, the company's and their representatives (owners in numerous cases) supporting USCA are second to none. The drivers that are committed to making as many events across the Nation as possible are hard driving, hard core competitors with a lot of talent. They are all very accessible, accommodating, and enthusiastic about the sport and life in general and it's infectious. There are so many great people supporting and attending these events yet words just cannot accurately describe the atmosphere, you have to engage and experience it firsthand to really understand what has been created in the last few years.

From my observations the regional competitors that entered and competed had a weekend they'll never forget or regret, the financial and scheduling efforts appeared to be well worth the effort. Observing and talking with the drivers, support crew, and family members attending was such positive energy that it's hard to describe.........hopefully my photographs will accurately depict what I've attempted to quickly summarize after a 6 hour solo night drive.

Be patient as it will take a few hours just to upload the files (guessing 3,500 images) and about a week to weed the images and edit the trophies........back to my celebratory glass.

Yep, dis was me with the F body behind the class c...That coach doesn't even know its following me.....What a fun weekend. Weather and the people were fantastic. Great times....Pics a comin. From me and Sieg...I didn't take much as it was pretty busy competing.

Thanks Mike, I'll either PM you or start another thread with my pulling with a Class C questions...

Sounds like it was yet another great event put on by the USCA. Glad the weather held out for you all. The track looked FUN from the few videos I've seen of it. The autocross curse looked a bit short and tight though and I don't think I've seen any videos of the speed stop yet. How'd you fair in Saturday's events? had you ever done a Speed Stop before?

Hope you get your clutch ills figured out quickly and painlessly.

I've never done a speed stop before, other than what i can "legally" do around here, so i gave it my best shot and outa 5 runs my first was the best (still sucked). The auto cross, in my run group (evens) i finished 5th outa 15, over all 15 outa 24. 4th time doing autocross and first time in the car with the new set up. The road course is what i wanted, ran in the intermediate group, got some good runs in (14 laps total) and really started feeling the car come around when the clutch went byby.....i finished about mid pack oa (middle of intermediate, so middle of everybody running)....

Just wanted to let everyone know this was a
great event for all who attended. I brought up
a couple of buddies and thanked them many times
for helping me out.. they kept thanking me for letting
them come along. One buddy did a lot of videos from
many angles with my new go pro so hope to post soon

Lots of action for those running and watching
A bunch of Lateral g guys and many vendors with
a lot of info if you ask questions
... Jimmy and the Optima crew did a great job.. he said they had
roughly 80 entries and 14 newbees....

Everyone should come out and support these guys
and RUN YOUR CARS.. THAT IS WHY WE BUILD THEM

My goal was to try and sort my car out and try to
get familiar with it after not really running it much for 10 years
plus... I also changed everything so it was a new car to me

We did 13 stop box runs and during that time had a buddy
we met a few years ago at Good guys that worked with
Herb Adams on their racing program in the early days...Harry
Quackenbush.. great guy with a lot of knowledge

I had Nittos and started with pressures at 38/34 we kept dropping
them until we were at 23/21...Seemed all wrong to me but it worked

Then we went to the Autocross and started tweaking shocks
again 13 or 14 runs and worked up and down getting the car
to turn thru the bump at the big right hander before the finish straight

Finally got the driver (me) to get more aggressive and dropped
over .6 on the second to last run... wish I had a few more at that
time.... but to tell you the truth I was tired.. running for 3 hours at
each event was a lot of seat time

Great day and great people everywhere
I did not run the Track on Sunday as the rear brakes still
do not seem to be working.. need to do some valving
and my gearing is not right yet

9th out of 24 in stop box and 12th out of 24 in autocross (Vintage Class)
not a bad day for an old driver and car that is still progressing
and learning how to dial it in and change things while you are
at the track.. something I have been watching Mike Maier do
for years! Guess that is why he is so fast

They added Vegas the weekend of April 25/26 to their Qualifiers

We had a great time and it was good meeting some of you folks. Sieg was all over the place taking photos and we met Greg chilling near his rig.

As a first timer on a road course, I was somewhat nervous about pushing the truck on the track, but I quickly became comfortable with the help of Barry, one of the instructors. Unfortunately, on the third session, I cracked a front brake rotor and called it a day.

This event was well organized and "ON TIME" which Jimi pointed out several times. The USCA crew did a great job and I will participate at future events.

PS - Just looked at the overall standings and am very happy with placing 36th out of 67 competitors. Yee Haw!

Great event! Met some more great people. It was a bit of a haul for me (just over 8 hours) but I had a blast. The auto cross was tight and short and was more a game of finesse and I managed to come in mid pack for the vintage class. Not bad cosidering I took Mary Pozzi on a cone eating firtst run. the speed stop was fun and I was getting my times down and on my fastest run I ended up with a flat front tire. I had it checked at the tire center and we could not find anything. so I had him break it down and remount it anyway. by the time this was done the session ended so I could not improve the time.

The road course was challenging because of the blind turns, elevation and camber changes. I took it easy trying to figure out the lines and to get more comfortable. As the sessions progressed the times dropped. The instructor gave me the lines to follow and all was going well until the same tire unset the bead through the chicane. No drama in the car or of track excursion so i limped it back to the pit. End of the day for me. Burned up a new Falken and damaged a wheel.

Thanks for noticing that my car was leaning Jimi!! LOL

Great experience at a great track at a great event.

This was a really well organized event at a great venue. I don't think that they could have had a better start to their new season than they did here at Thunderhill. Everything went smoothly and started on time.

my personal favorite thing was all the time I got with instructors. I worked with 3 different gentlemen throughout the weekend and each one was able to help me improve steadily. On the AutoX I was able to knock off a solid 3sec from my time, and 10sec out on the road course, but better than that, I learned how to be smooth and confident.

All in all, an amazing weekend.

EDIT: Oh yea, almost forgot, thanks for keeping Dad entertained this weekend too. He had a great time.

Having been a victim of multiple meatball flags on a Saturday/Sunday last year due to popping the sound meter at T-Hill with a 1.8 litre Toyota motor while multiple people are running Cup cars with boom tubes and not getting flagged, I thought this was a very appropriate place for this sign.

For the unwashed ---- That would be MRS. David Pozzi in the back of Kyle Newman's wagon.... for a "ride along" of all the instructors on the Auto X...

There was a nasty 180* up at the top of the course -- where Mrs Pozzi (AKA "stick you bitch" - AKA Mary) --- took a "ride" from one side of the car to the other.... Some verbiage such as ".......THAT HURT......" was mumbled... LOL

I volunteered this Saturday and had a great time. Here are a few of my favorite photos I took this weekend.:)

Hi Amy! :hello:

Welcome to Lat-G!!! :theresa:

Thank you very much for volunteering at the event, you obviously understand the importance.

Thanks for sharing the photos and album.....You have a great eye for composition. I really enjoy seeing other's perspectives through the lens of the same subject opportunities. Especially different genders and age groups, it emphasizes our similarities and uniqueness.

I must say you choose your rides to events quite wisely. I've really enjoyed getting to know Jake, albeit short, hid future is exciting!

Lastly, thanks for the photo, I've taken thousands at the events and have very few of myself and that one I really appreciate!

Great shots of your car Glassman.. it does
look at home on the track

Taking a pic at 150...
I used to ride CR500's with two brothers
when we went over to pick the one brother up
he had a picture of his speedo on his Yamaha R1
that he took out on highway 5 at 186 mph.. not
sure how he even held on to the camera

Thank you! I've found that there are very few photos a good crop couldn't save... I've also been enjoying seeing everybody else's photos, so many moments I missed over the weekend that I can now enjoy through another's lens.

An unfortunate consequence of being the one behind the camera. I'm glad you liked it, the photographer deserves some limelight too!

When in doubt zoom out! We're thinking alike while reviewing images, many times it looked like we were shadowing each other. So many options, so little time!

Truth, though in essence we like to be snipers in the shadows so not to distract the subject though it's nice to get caught occasionally. :)

Thanks again.

Usually there are cones at this section of the course. Sometimes they are right off the candycane, other times they are kind of straight lined where they are 3 feet inside at apex of the striping. I have seen cars pick up cones and shoot them straight up pretty high in the air.

Yes, it's way fun to blast straight across there on a bike.

A good many of us ate it on that last right hander. What's weird is that you couldn't really judge how off-camber it was unless you were on the other side of the fence. I wiped out pretty good on one of my laps, and only came about two feet from killing some kind of electrical device that had been positioned "safely" outside the cones. Smitty's smoke show definitely left a more impressive mark, however . . . my wife's still complaining about his sound output.

Guys, don't forget that they are tolerating us . . .

JerrDawgy --- My "race cars" don't qualify for the USCA events.... no VINS - No license plates - no headlights - no wipers - no windows - and best of all they run Hoosiers!!

I would NEVER run my hot rods -- because they're just that... hot rods - not suitable for anything much over 60 MPH and corners that can be taken at 10 MPH.

I go to see my friends and to be Smitty's tool box. And just generally to SUPPORT a great organization.

Oh yeah!! I forgot.... and to salvage parts off my Mustang so Maier could finish the weekend. Short story - he developed a leaky carb... and I had a race car just sitting there with - a non leaking carb.... we swapped.... a little jet management.... and off he went!! LOL.... race weekends are pretty much like that!!
