I wouldn't raise my hand - and if I saw this at a car show - I'd turn away and look at something else. Walking over to see it would signal you had really bad taste.
I don't know why anyone would label this build as "iconic".... and since Boyd built it we know it won't run or drive.

Car is cool. Color and Int color could be better, but should bring an interesting number. You either love it or hate it. 2 guys that love it could make the bidding interesting.

I thought boyd was considered an icon and surprised at the respones . I never met him so i cant add personal feelings that may have initiated the comments. I feel its a cool car and one of many that brought hot rodding to the mainstream. I know mr pratt owns quite a few of boyds cars that are going across the block at barrett so someone might be buying them all up to start their own boyd collection.im sure it will do well but not million dollar well .my guess is $325k.

He (BC) was known to build cars that were "show cars" - i.e., wouldn't come out of the shop being able to run and drive. For whatever reason -- the public doesn't know about that. You'd have to talk to builders etc that actually know the true history behind many of his builds. Not saying his designs and ideas and cars weren't cutting edge or cool (some were some weren't).
If you want to see his "build qualities" and the guys in his shop --- watch the series of American Hot Rod where they build the "Junk Yard Dog". They cut door and trunk gaps in the bondo with a box cutter... and the idiots that are attempting to put the tranny on the motor... pound it and wrestle it and generally abuse it rather than stopping to figure out what's wrong.
I'd heard the rumors and stories.... but once I built the SAR '32 and the Brizio '33 -- people come out of the woodwork with stories.

I think a lot of it comes from the TV Show American Hot Rod. I don't think he came off very well on TV and he had a Jack-Wagon Shop Foreman (Duane) who pissed most viewers off.
But people fail to remember that Chip Foose worked for Boyd for 7 or 8 years and learned a lot of his craft from Boyd. The most talented guys from Coddington's Shop & American Hot Rod ended up working for Chip

Boyd was the Grand Marshall at a car show I went to. I had a chance to BS a minute with him and I asked him about American Hot Rod TV show.
For what it's worth, he said lots of the bickering was scripted by the producers for dramatic effect, but who knows.

I get it now, didn't know about the show cars, etc.
As for most reality TV car shows, they are mostly antics, and not so much car. I never did see many episodes of that show, it was on before I had DISH. When I first did see the reruns I didn't like the antics so I didn't watch it.
Thanks for the explanation.
The red 40 something pickup they sold for Pratte the other night looked nice.
But i am thinking we all underestimated what a fool and his money will part with for Chezoom, and the auctions as said just bring foolish money.
It makes it harder for the average Joe, or Jarhead in my case to afford a BJ, LMAO

What I always underestimate at BJ is the AVERAGE AGE of the bidders.... and how much gold jewelry they're wearing - and creased and starched designer blue jeans.... and the size of the cigars if they'd let 'em smoke 'em in there... LOL
By the way -- the RED '40 pickup was done by Squeegs.... it was STARTED by Boyd Coddington but Squeegs built it. Squeegs is a TOP NOTCH builder... so my guess is it's flawless and runs and drives as good as it looks.

I think Cadzilla was done during the time that Chip Foose worked for the Hawaiian shirt wearing clown. I never like Boyd's stuff, John Butterra.....there was a great So-Cal craftsman. There is a lot of hype going over that Chebbie.....but, I wouldn't want to own it.....don't like the styling!

I never early cared for most of the cars Boyd built on the show. But I have seen many that were done off camera for customers and most all were really spot on builds.
Yes the Chezoom is a very unique car design wise. Personally I think it is wild and like it. Although that new interior really sucks.
Always hard to say what some of these cars will bring, but I think $250k plus is my guess.

"D'oh!"
I think the car represents a good mile-marker of the times when it was built. It was done before all the TV nonsense when he still had a good crew. The metalwork is pretty serious on the car, and it has survived well (save for the interior). I think 'Zzilla is the best, I'm not a huge fan of this car, but I thought it would be a tough one to guess, as it is hard to compare!

i think its 10% for commission
Here's their generic statement:
To sell a vehicle at Barrett-Jackson, the consignor is responsible for an entry fee as well as a seller's commission percentage of the hammer price for No Reserve consignments and Reserve consignments. The entry fee is determined by day and time of your lot entry and includes tent space. Payment of fees without a signed contract does not constitute a consignment agreement.

Considering the sheer dollar quantity of his spend over the years, I would be surprised if he (and some of his peers) paid full tilt. I can only guess, but I would think there is a volume discount when you spend what some of them do year after year.
Then, on the other hand, when you have THAT much money, it might be considered gauche to quibble over the fees.

I was surprised to see so many reserve cars. I thought Craig had done away with that on all but his own cars....
And since GW is clarifying for us kids at home... BJ collects 10% from the buyer and 10% from the seller on the hammer price, correct? So the auction makes 20% on every sale.

I'm :EmoteClueless:
I don't think he paid 10% - B-J sold $50 Million more than last year and most of that was the Pratt Collection. Certainly the Pratt Collection created more Buzz (so much that Velocity did a 30 Minute Program strictly on Pratt) for Barrett Jackson. I've also been told, but I have not been able to confirm, that Pratt is a Silent Partner in B-J. Craig & Ron are certainly friends and have made each other a lot of money!
