I remember back in 2008 I read there was a bolt hole in the AutoKraft LS oil pan that wasn't drilled and tapped in the LS block. Is it still that way or does the block have the hole drilled and tapped on the newer blocks?

I'm not sure what you are referring to. I installed an AutoKraft (champ makes it) pan on an LS3 block and all the holes lined up perfectly. The pick up tube wasn't perfect and had to be modded slightly to get the proper height as well as fit the main cap that it bolts to.

Same here...and I did it back in 2008.

I read somewhere there was a bolt hole in the pan and the block didn't have a corresponding hole for a bolt.

This is what I read.

I did my swap in March of 2008:

It is entirely possible that I never noticed the extra hole, but I haven't had any oil leaks since the swap.

Wayne, we installed the AutoKraft pan on the LSX454 in our 69 Camaro. We did not have the bolt hole issue you recalled in your OP.

The pan also bolted right up as mentioned by others. I don't have a great picture of it installed. Only a few glamour shots from the build thread but none specifically of the oil pan installed. I'll take a look back through old photos and if I find anything I'll post it for you.

Which motor mount plates did you use?

I just put an Autokraft on my LS3/525 crate motor to work with my Speedtech sub frame.

Perfect and great ground clearance.

I'm putting mine on my crate motor, do I need a new gasket or are they good to reuse. I have a habit of going overboard when it's not really needed.

chichirone, Beautiful motor! How did that oil thermostat fit with your headers on the motor?

Thanks everyone.

What u are asking about is on older ls engines, mostly truck engines the 3rd or 4th bolt from the back on the driver side was never drilled from the factory. It never cause any leak issues on factory pans, but i do not know about after market pans. I will check my blocks i have here and try and find an example of such

It must have been on the older motors because everyone that replied said it was not a problem for them. I have a new crate engine so it wouldn't matter on mine. I was just looking for information before I had an LS to check out for myself.

Thanks

Just check my engines around the shop. Doesnt seem to matter wether aluminum or iron. It more of gen 3 or gen 4 ls engine. Gen 3 has the boss but not drilled. I have check my gen 3 4.8l iton 5.3l iron and 5.7l aluminum have non drilled. My gen 4s, 6.0 alu, and 6.2 alu have drilled and tapped bosses

I need to buy 1 of these asap. Is this the best low clearance pan for us? This has to be purchased direct correct?
