So I'm without a company car now so I'm in the market for a Jeep Wrangler. I'm just looking for something in the $10K range right now, my wife gets her new Jeep Unlimited in the spring :catfight: she drives 4 miles a day so better she has the new one!!
Anyway what should I stay away from?? I've found a few with under 100K miles but they all have the 4 banger which is ok with me but not sure if they are good or bad?? I'm have a call into a friend of mine that is a Chrysler mechanic but everything to him is junk except his his new Hellcat!!
Anyway thoughts??
Also anyone have a Jeep?? Let's see some pictures??

Why does this even matter? It's gonna get an LS swap eventually... :mock:

The 4cyl is pretty peepy if you have a manual trans, kind of a dog with an auto. If you plan on leaving it stock height with stock size tires it's great, if you put taller tires on plan on changing the axle gears.
Wranglers have something called "death wobble", easy fix, most of the time it's the track bar and/or the steering stabilizer is worn out.
The major down fall I had with the 5 different ones I had (CJ,YJ and TJ) was not having a trunk or place to keep items in.
Good luck

I have a 1999 TJ Wrangler. Mine's the 6 cylinder auto version. They actually make great little commuters...easy to get in and out of. I swear you can drive past a parking spot, and still make it into the spot...they are such a short wheel base they turn on a dime.
Mine is lifted with 33" tires though...so it's not super peppy and gets horrible MPG. But it's just a play toy anyways...not really for daily driving.
Like they said though, if you're keeping it in stock form, the 4 cylinder will be just fine.

The inline six is one of the most durable engines ever produced. Pre 2000... The Chrysler got their hands on everything...
Love my Jeep. I have more fun in that damn thing. It has about 4,000 scratches on it.

Rick ---
I have a new one - which isn't worth discussing because it's WAY over the budget number you stated you wanted to be in... but I do LOVE my Jeep! I drive it daily.... and where I live it's just about the perfect vehicle. I haven't had it long enough to say anything about reliability.

Yeah Greg nice Jeep, my wife's gets her new Unlimted in spring! Ouch you are right about the price but she's still driving her 2006 Jeep so she's due plus she really does drive 4 miles each way to work each day!
Thanks guys for the imput, I think I'm going to up my budget a little and get the newer style JK Jeep as I drove one the other day and I like way better the older TJ.

I'll tell you the same thing I told a buddy when he bought his Liberty....sorry dude, that's not a jeep. :peepwall:
It is however a decent commuter for a middle aged woman that loves cats....
Ron, I apologize. We don't know each other and I shouldn't be saying these things, enjoy it for what it is. Just don't go telling people you bought a jeep.

Sorry Rick, not only about the wrong name but for what follows...
Things to bring when venturing out in the woods in your new "Jeep"
1) plenty of snacks and fluids, enough to last longer than the planned trip
2) a change of clothes and some warm weather gear, even in the summer
3) cash for parking at the trailhead
4) a buddy with a real Jeep!
You can also use the first two when going to the store or to get coffee. :)
It is clean and I'm willing to bet it hasn't been off-road, check the recalls on some of the electrical. My buddies wife's Liberty had a few, actually the biggest complaint from my buddies wife, the one with the Liberty, is the electrical. She....the wife that drives the Liberty, is already looking for something else. :D

Ok now that's funny sh!t right there!!! :hello: :action-smiley-027: :action-smiley-027:
First things first please don't tell me you drive a Prius??? :thankyou:
Second it's just a driver NOT my dream car :twak: it's good transportation to get back and forth to work and such. And it's really good in the snow so I'm happy :RunninDog:

Rick I'm glad you've got a sense of humor, it was all in fun! I used to get crap for showing up to the trail in a lifted Grand Cherokee, sure was nice winter wheeling with heated seats!
You'll find with decent tires that lil Liberty is a snow mobile, just point and shoot.
No Prius for this guy! I'm down to the wife's Silverado, her crappy mustang with a ton of nice parts, my 57 and the 59 Kurbside.
Let us know what you think once the wife gets her new Wrangler.

At least he owns a Jeep. :action-smiley-027: A Silverado and Mustang, you'd be lucky to get out of the state with those two jalopy's.

Here's mine, new wheels, had new tires when I bought it, 2012 Rubicon, was going to lift it but have to save money for other things, living in 2 states can be rather expensive,
