pretty cool Tim,
That reminds me, I have to see where he wants to mount the buttons. Convertible switch screw holes looked like they worked ok.

You do have to bore them out slightly...but that's where I did it on this particular Chevelle, my personal Chevelle, and my Nova had something there too I remember drilled out. Simple, easy to access, yet out of sight.

Thanks for the write up, lots of good info.
I do have a question:
I ordered the VHX direct fit gauges for my 71 Camaro and I ended up getting the black face with white illumination. I'm trying to get somewhat of a stock looking gauge.
I haven't got the gauges yet, but have been looking at the needles on the pictures and didn't like the white. Feels like it would look better if the needles were orange like a stock cluster.
Looking at the pictures from the link, the gauges start out with white needles and by the end they are orange....were they painted?
If so what was used to paint them? Paint pen? Brush?
Or am I looking at the illumination coming off the gauge?
Thanks in advance

You're correct in that they start out white. They glow red though.
Basically they are white needles, however when they illuminate(when your headlights are on), they then glow red. So daytime you'll see the needles as white, but night time they will glow red.
Hope that helps and let me know if you have any other questions!

And i got the blue lighting and the silver backround for my 2nd gen, they work great and look great at nite....
I was able to locate an article from Car Craft iirc, and it had made the swap a breeze, they located/id the wires from the stock column and showed where to cut and splice and insert into the new system....took me bout 4 hours to do the swap.
