I have a 67 El Camino. I just dropped a 383 stroker in the engine bay, but I want to change the rear end out. The 4:10s are great for what they are intended, but I'm bigger on cruising than I am on getting out of the hole. I bought some Richmond 3:73s from JEGS. They offer 2 sets of 3:73s. I bought the ones that specify for 3-series carrier (3.07 to 3.73) but should've bought the ones that specify for 4-series carrier (3.90 and numerically higher). Is there a way I can still use the gears for the 3-series I bought in the 4-series that I have????

to my knowledge you can not do that

you could have done the opposite

i believe the ring gear is a different thickness

Crap! Guess I'll have to send it back and exchange for the other.

Thanks a lot for the info..

I know you can run 4 series gears on a 3 series carrier, you need the spacer, but I don't know the other way around, car Moser or another,
