For a member with so very few posts, I must say it doesn't reflect the inspiration and knowledge I've gathered over the last few years. Here is some history on the car to where it currently sits - literally. Many thanks to Steve - ADRNELIN, who has personally guided and continues to labor with me around this build. Couldn't do it without you brother. Started with a tired but clean turn key (driver) Georgia car. Had an average restoration from a 327 sport coup to an SS about 10 years ago. The objective for the build overall is to mainly cruise and hit the local autocross a few times a year. With all the variations of what a protour car is, well to put it plainly, I want a modern car while doing everything I can to keep it looking like it rolled out of the factory in Atlanta back in '66.

Completed:
Suspension: Speed Tech's complete Track Time Kit with ATS'- Thanks Jay...
Holly LS conversion kit
Brakes: Z06 GS - Thanks Tobin…
Steering: All new (non rack n' pinion)
Wheels: 18x8 front / 19x10 rears Forgeline GX3-R
Drivetrain: LSA + T56
3 inch - stainless Borla exhaust
AAW - classic kit
Dakota Digital
Ididit
Tanks Inc.
Moser 12 bolt / 3:90's

Thankfully on track - put my order in for a complete all aluminum LS6 + T56 with complete Howell harness, and drive accessories with A/C. Just sold my 454 big block and TH400 locally. Time to get the engine bay freshened up over the summer for delivery in September. Needless to say I'm blown' fuses with excitement...:headspin:
If any of you come across some quality long tube headers through contacts, send them my way.

Cheers,

The funds and time only allow to get the motor/trans in by September. Hopefully get the American Auto Wire kit, Dakota gauges, rad, tank over the winter months. I have my fingers crossed that she'll be on the road for summer '16. For now, going to get a fix of inspiration down in Columbus at the Goodguys event - never miss it!

Thanks guys!!

Ed - They were once a great Canadian company. Now they are a great (Canadian?) company closer to the action in the U.S! All good. I bought the complete track time kit in the summer of 2012 (including the spindles) as they were getting ready to move to Utah. Liked the fact that their focus was the Chevelle and the Nova. Installed it with Steve in 2013. Mary Pozzi gave it some 'real time' reviews. I haven't driven in it yet, but if its anything like the installation, it will agree with Pozzi's comments. A complete and professional set-up! Jay and Roger at Speed Tech are great to work/deal with. You should seriously give them some time and research. Oh and by the way - great score with the '66. A real nice place to start...

Hope that helps...

Well Jeff, may not be in the cards this year sad to say. I may be getting some surgery in June and would be recuperating through the summer months. I was born with a leaky aortic valve, and up until now been fine, but will need a new one. If all goes well, the Velle, Steve and I will be in Columbus '17. The good news is that lovely orange '69 will have some miles on it before then! :D

Many thanks John! Yes pal, that would be me. I need the headers to run parallel on either side of the trans as is most common. From what I gather these are aligned to have the exhaust curl in/up under the trans, inside the tunnel as the Vette application requires. I've been wrong before though.:peepwall: They are an outstanding set of headers...

Funny but I'm actually starting to think of some color options = :confused59: On my short list are a classy/aggressive metallic red, 69' GM 'Champagne' or white. Well, after an eventful August (planned heart surgery, thanks for your well wishes and prayers), and at 6 weeks of great recovery, my close friend and builder showed up at my garage door this past Monday. He brought along some inspiration and went to work. I'm sure you may have seen his car before:thumbsup: So went like this…

Motor and Trans + cross member installed
Complete (TANKS) fuel tank and lines
Sway bars
Modified seat brackets and seats installed
___

Next week - Front floors, and trans tunnel.
Next month - Complete wiring + Dakota dash, Headers & Rad
___

Looks like the Velle maybe out by next spring/summer. Again, the plan was to do all the fab work etc., drive her hard for a few years then deal with all the metal work/paint. Big thanks once again to Steve for all his hard work and continued support:cheers:brother, especially when I can't lift more than 10 pounds for another 4 weeks - doctor's orders...:thankyou:

Thanks guys! Appreciate you tuning in...I have to agree with you all!

Moving right along and really charged up about the progress since the last update. Some key issues and items off the list:

1. Drive angle set and confirmed at 3.5 degrees - no thanks to the BPR's trans-cross member. Went with the good old factory built 50 years ago.
2. Brake lines and proportioning valve installed.
3. Partial floor and complete transmission tunnel done.
4. Seats and brackets modified and sit perfectly.

All metal work done by a local guy who was a big reason why Steve's '69 looks so good. His attention to detail is tremendous!

Next steps…Wire the whole car, gauges, rad and headers.

Guys, thanks for checking in and your kind words. Well the motor and trans are in for good now. The tunnel is set and because I didn't want to run a console, more work. My buddy Steve took the time to create a solid piece to which the decorative shifter trim would simply screw down to. Due to shifter size and location on the tunnel…well you either have been through it or simply take a look. The trim piece had to be extended longer in size so that if I have to pull out the complete short throw for whatever reason the tranny stays put. Also took the advice of my metal/body guy Sam, and scratched the 50 year old metal (that looked so good) and coated it with quality bed liner. Dyno mat will still be used for sound etc…

11-09-2016, 02:08 PM
Looks great! I did the same in my car. I welded the threaded piece to the bottom of the tunnel. Shifter comes out no problem. No console, just wrapped the tunnel in hushmat, then vinyl stitched to match my seats, with a universal shift boot glued to the shifter trim ring.

Hello All! Thanks for all your encouraging words and support throughout this build in particular to Steve @aany001. He can surely build them and proud he can add an A-Body to his list of protouring builds. Connect with me if you'd like on IG @gedagrip66. This forum is still a great resource and source of fellowship...

All is done (well never done), except body, paint and glass...but I'm going to drive her for a good while till then. :hapdance:

All the best with your builds!

Joe

Great looking car! Congrats on a job well done & sticking w/it through life's challenges. I like the current wheels more than previous versions. They just fit the original intended theme 'better' (my perspective).
Same sizes I assume?

Thank you Scott! Yes, I agree... just a basic but timeless set of vn215's and a conservative 18x8 front and 18x9 rear until the body work/tub happens. Then I'd like to go a Forgeline Heritage type set-up or a Weld S71. So for now, off to work I go lol...

Interesting you say this, I will in the end go either white, black or a rich deep red such as Mark S. PPG Salsa Red on his 69'...decisions, decisions...

Thank you...

Man, those Torq Thrusts in gray look soooo nice against the white!
If I were you I’d leave those wheels be and spend that money elsewhere.

If you do splurge, keep the TT’s to swap out. IMHO, you nailed it with those.

Car is looking good! I, too, like the TT's. At least you're is driveable, even if not finished. I'm still miles away from that stage with my Malibu. Thanks for sharing and motivating!

Much appreciated JD! If anything when I shorten the diff, will go an 18×10 with a 285 or 295 tire in the rear and call it a day👍

Great looking Chevelle, especially with the vinyl top! I’d love to see more about what all was needed to add the supercharger to your engine. I’d like to upgrade my LS3 to an LSA…

Thank you! It's a pretty straightforward add on. The good news is, your most of the way there with your LS3. All GM parts from a ZL1 Camaro, that was parted out.

X2, been planning the same on mine since it came with one. And oddly it was black vinyl with white paint.

100% Not for every car, but Torinos, A-Bodies, and Mopars a must
