View Full Version : Nova or Camaro?

I think I know how this will go but...
I am sure many of you are aware that I am planning a 66-67 Nova build. Daily driver, 350 Ram Jet, auto trans, plans for modern comfort interior and monster handeling and braking. Why did I choose this car? Looks cool, it's small and light, will get better mileage, requires less horsepower to be quick, fits in my small garage easily. Clearly (although slightly larger and heavier) an F body is a much better starting point to build a corner carver (parts availability and such).
I was initially opposed to F bodies because there are so many out there (for a good reason I might add). I just wanted to do something slightly different. However, I will say I like F bodies just as much as the next guy...they look killer.
So how say you, forum brethren? Stick with the Nova or start looking into F bodies?

I say Nova. I still miss my '67. Don't get me wrong, nothing will ever come b/w me and my Camaro, but Shoebox Novas are so cool.

You seem to know the pros and cons of both. Its a personal desision. No one should decide this for you. build which ever you are personally more atracted to. Parts are more redily available for both of the cars then (i think) any other. If you are planning on keeping it for a long time. make sure it is the car you are attracted to. They are both azz kickers. You kind of cant go wrong.

I went with camaro because they will get you more tail, and because it's a cooler looking car, at least I think so.
But I would say you should get whatever you really want. I tell people all the time, you only live once and you should always never second guess yourself. If you want a nova, then get one, if you want a camaro, then you should get one, but whatever you do, get which one you feel you want the most. Don't let us dictate what you should have.

Nova for sure. They look so cool PT-ed and camaros there are a bunch of those.
My brother and I are working on a 72 nova minitubbing it, 11 inch wide wheels, 468 big block, and hotchkis suspension.

I say go with the maro. I tried to stick with my other car, but I was never really happy and kept going back and thinking about the maro and wanting one. You'll never be happy until you do.

I have to disagree with some for a minute on the 67-69 camaros. I have gone months on end without seeing one on the streets, then when I do it's an "Ohhh and ahhhhh".
You see them at the shows, but around here I don't see many of them ever on the roads.

You make a good point. Sure there are tons at shows, but I haven't seen one on the road for a month or so myself. In fact, last one I saw was kind of a junker--and I still liked it.
I think being bombarded with them on this forum gives a false representation.

Nova... Camaro... Bah go to the real dark side and get a Mopar.:wow:  But if I had to pick one of the 2 I'd pick the Nova.

What part of Atlanta are you in?
Come with me to the dark side and together we can rule the galaxie. Or any other ford......
Anyway, the early Nova's are way cool....especially when pro toured. However, I am partial to the first gen Camaro. You won't see many of either one as a daily driver!

Maz said it best... build what YOU like, you are building the car for YOU.
In my case...after having a 68 camaro in high school/college and always wanting a 69RS (a friend had a real nice example), at this stage in life, that is what I am building...it so happens that these are crazy-popular, but it's not something that I think about. I built a 1960 Cadillac with my Dad, because we both liked that particular car, no other reason...
A friend of mine is one of these very "contrarian" dudes, he automatically HATES anything that could be considered even a little bit "popular", in any way. He will start off liking a given song, or a movie for example, but if he starts hearing that song a few times on the radio or something, or a buzz gets going about it, say the movie wins some awards, etc... it's automatically no good. Same with books, if it's on the NY times bestseller list, it can't possibly be any good... LOL
We get a real kick out of him...
